»SD>Big Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 so i built my new monster pc cause my mobo on my old comp went kaput. i have reinstalled half life 2 and am giving that another go, as well i'm in the process of getting f.e.a.r. it doesn't have to be an FPS, i've also just gotten civilization iv. any other ideas?
»Blocks Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I bet your rig could get mad high FPS on this game called Continuum.
Samapico Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 civ 4 owns... sim city 4 is pretty nice too (id like to get that Rush Hour expansion though)
Samapico Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 But Counter Strike Condition Zero sucks... I found it on the network at my workplace, so I grabbed it to see what it was... ... it just.. sucks... i wasted 2 cd's burning it.
JoWie Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Now with map editor and custom missions: Americas Army or if you don't mind downloading 40MB everytime you enter a new server: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
SVS Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 If you like space based turn based strategy games buy Galactic Civilizations 2 but wait until the expansion is released, I believe they are packaging the expansion and original game for like 50 bucks after it comes out. Other then that, Oblivion of course, Company of Heroes is a must buy and Medieval War 2 is really good.
Dav Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 as far as monster PCs goes i cant wait for these to get cheaper http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?...nufacturer_id=0
Bomook Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 as far as monster PCs goes i cant wait for these to get cheaper http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?...nufacturer_id=0While they are very nice, they actually perform worse than the X6800's for gaming simply because the single core that is actually utilized is clocked slower. Some other great games to play are:Heroes of Might and Magic Dark MessiahNeverwinter Nights 2and of course, Episode 1 for HL2; it's short but sweet
PoLiX Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Battlefield2, and Madden 2k7.
»SD>Big Posted January 29, 2007 Author Report Posted January 29, 2007 i'm gonna get company of heroes, oblivion and need for speed most wanted... i also just got beyond good and evil, can't wait to install it. I'm also playing grim fandango AMAZING GAME.
jacob hunter! Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 I got the cheap fps doom 3 and devil may cry 3 for pc.
Wampus Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 I picked up a copy of CnC, The first decade the other day and was both impressed and disappointed. Generally, it run comfortably on any machine above 800MHz. However, though the games do run with good aspect ratio on the new systems, they didnt fix the display resolution issues of the original versions. This can be annoying to say the least. It comes with every version of Command and Conquer to date, including Generals with the Zero Hour expansion. Lots of fun. Also you should try the Guild Wars series. Its free to play, you only buy the liscense. It reatails for between $44 and $50, but I have found it as low as $12 online, new.
sil Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 I just want to give a warning about buying Oblivion. Read reviews of the game first. Just about everyone I have talked to has come to a general concensus that while the game is absolutely beautiful to see, it is possibly the most boring game in existence (maybe not in existence, just put there for emphasis!). Just don't want you to waste money on it if it's not your thing. Graphics aren't everything, but that is really another topic.
PoLiX Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 Just make sure you get Most Wanted, not Carbon. Told a guy to try it out, and when he went to the store he got carbon, cause he saw it was the newest, and realized why I told him not to. I got it, and it is alright, but tooo much story to it. Most Wanted has some story, but it is mostly just Underground + Hot Persuit combined. Not only have to beat races to be able to race the next driver, but also have to get bounty, cop chase times, etc. Carbon is semi the same from what i've played so far, but feels like a lot of story. Was all just "Text Messages" and "Phone Calls" in Most Wanted, very little video story. Sorry, I've just always been a NFS Freak.

None of them agree with the poster here, boring? You must hate all things RPG to think Oblivion is boring. I will even link you a review from Gamespot. If you like RPGs you cannot miss this one. Gamespot Review of Oblivion I will even throw in a quick scan of 72 different reviews of Oblivion, all of them rating the game as being very good. List of 72 Reviews
»SD>Big Posted January 30, 2007 Author Report Posted January 30, 2007 i do like my rpg's.... especialy snes ones! great ones on that system.
sil Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 SVS, why do you think I told him in my original post to read reviews of it first. Not only that, I encouraged him to make sure that type of game iis his thing. I in fact enjoy RPGs, I have all of Baldur's Gate, Torment, Icewind Dale, and Septerra Core, Shadow Hearts, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Lufia 1 and 2, many of the older final fantasy games to name a few. I was merely offering my opinion (heaven forbid), that it has been brought to my attention from a many people that the game gets very boring quickly. Does that imply that it will for him? No. I have never played it for any length of time so I cannot offer an honest review myself of why it becomes boring, and I will not try to. I just encourage him to explore it further before making a purchase. edit: I picked a review from your list of reviews. Here was the conclusion at the end, which I believe is presented quite well. source All in all... In conclusion, Oblivion is a rather solid game, worthy of attention of anyone wishing for a light-hearted adventure with an entire world to immerse oneself in. The combat system is frustrating, but that is secondary. Oblivion’s real strength lies in the total freedom of action it provides. Despite the game’s numerous flaws, it is easy to become engrossed in the world and it’s atmosphere. However, don’t expect a very deep game or one that will continuously pull you back for another round. 84% January 2007 I will add that it is good to know what you expect from a game and what you want out of a game. Oblivion may have it's good and great points, but it also has its flaws and downsides. It isn't some god of all RPGs ever made. Is it a breathtaking to view (with the correct hardware) game? You can bet it is. Is it an amazing game? That is up to you to decide if it is for you.
SVS Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 QUOTE(SD>Big @ Jan 29 2007, 07:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i do like my rpg's.... especialy snes ones! great ones on that system. SNES games were very good, I still play Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Etc. I know you pointed out he should read the reviews sil. My problem was that your post made it seem like the conclusion from the reviews was that Oblivion was boring. Considering I listed 72 different reviews and all of them excluding maybe 4 or 5 have the game rated at least a 9 out of 10 I wanted to correct the perception that you had made of the game.
sil Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 I conceed that point, I did make it seem in my initial post that everyone thinks it is boring. It IS however the verdict that was given to me by close friends and other people whose opinion I value enough to take into consideration, and thus was translated into my post. Also, I don't take much merit in the rating the review gives the game, but what they actually write about. Especially what they think a game excells at or does poorly at. edit: (I should really think of everything first!) Another review with good points sourceFortunately Oblivion is very moddable and is inheriting the amateur modding teams from Morrowind, probably the best modding community around. This is no small post-script. The player mods for Morrowind were of such high quality that they sometimes put the designers to shame – and the same is likely to be true of Oblivion. Overall It’s difficult to judge Oblivion without reference to Morrowind. On its own merits, Oblivion is an amazing hack and slash game with many strong roleplaying en!@#$%^&*ies and technological achievements. All of the tools are there for a mind blowing RPG. The engine is awe-inspiring and the content is competently designed. It’ll certainly hold your interest, although you may get the feeling that something’s missing. The hole will hopefully be filled either by mods or forthcoming expansions. 93%
Mr. Right Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Sorry, I've just always been a NFS Freak. sweet. now i'm not alone in these forums when it comes to NFS.
Wampus Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 You know, I found (though it is quite dated now) that for its time, NFS Porche Unleashed was quite the eye candy. Also, as for Oblivion, I would like to add to the arguement that I have played it and find it also to be a little on the boring side. Yes, the realism is fantasic, the art is amazing sometimes (with the right hardware), but it's a trade-off for gameplay and story. I compare it to GuildWars, which artistically is beautiful in itself, (not as much as Oblivion however) and has a lot more to do. Unfortunately, most people I encountered on Oblivion treated the game as some huge chatroom more than anything else. I don't know about any of you, but I find it a lot more alluring if the game has social elements, but is not based around socializing. I know the point of MMORPG's and the like is to be more social, but you shouldnt sacrifice to fit that need.

Heh.
Wampus Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Hmm, maybe I'm thinking of another game. Let me check it out. http://www.oblivionsource.com/
