Hey guys!

I have been having an issue with Continuum every since I reformatted and started using Windows XP PRO SP2. I also (For the first time) used the installer to install Continuum which installs .37, .38, and .39pr1. I am able to start Continuum with .38 and .39, but not .37 I should point out.

Anyhow, My problem is this. 9 out of 10 times that I use ALT+TAB to goto tabbed mode, My screen goes Black and the only solution is to do a cold boot. It has got to the point of beyond annoying and I "A PC Guru" cannot figure this issue out. I suppose worst care senario is that I just reinstall continuum with the .38 installer and add the .39 exe, but I am puzzled and would rather figure this issue out incase anyone else has run across it. I should add that I have installed all the latest drivers, updates, etc for my computer. I first noticed this when I started using 32 bit in options, which I had never tried before, but changing it to 8, or 16 has made no difference.

So, If any of you know perhaps why this is happening, please help!

Thanks in advance,

Beethoven

I don't know about an installer which installs the deprecated .37 alongside the .38 and .39pr1 but it sounds fishy to me. I have no problems at all with .38 alone (I almost never use .39pr1).

When you do alt+tab you are switching from the graphical Directx environment (and probably different resolution then windows) to the windows environment. It's possible that your screen goes black by various reasons.

A few to start with; maybe your screen can't handle the sudden change (so try to use the same resolution and bit depth as your windows environment), other thing is that it could be related to Directx (try to run some dxdiag tests and see if you have the same problem), last but not least is that it might be related to your video drivers but that is probably your last resort.

BTW, you forget to mention which Continuum version you are using. If you are using .37 or .38 - try using a newer one (.38 or .39pr1).

Good luck

Mav the current official installer does this. It comes with 0.37, 0.38 and 0.39pr1.

I would suggest to the installer maintainer to remove 0.37 as no needs it.

As you have recently reinstalled.

I would suggest you check you have upto date graphics drivers.

Alot of graphics issues are caused by using old drivers that come with window xp.

Use the manuafactureres drivers.

Well, I need to make a new installer anyways. Remember when Wonderer's installed the sound to the Windows dir? Almost 3000 downloads between GetContinuum, SSDL, and SSCentral on that one. Still finding newbs here and there who say they've never had working sound, and help em fix it.

But yeah. I plan to make a new installer with updates to it. I hope before then that all SSC zones can setup dns. Been buggin a few about it, so when they're zone's ip or port changes, it goes through the DNS and updates it when the dir server is down, so they don't end up with a half red zone list.

Anyways. Beethoven, Your a mod, so .37 will allow you to connect, but .37 was the 1 client which produced this problem the most. So don't even think of using it. As Mav said, what resolutions are you running? Try running the same resolution, color depth, and make sure in Advanced Options "Avoid Page Flipping, No Framerate Limit, and Disable Clipping" are checked. This fixed it for many reporting your problem also. I noticed you recently posted a "Best Settings" or something like that in EG's general forum, and had those unchecked in Adv Settings. That is the 1 thing that causes more screen bugs for people than anything, and those 90% of the time fixed it.
