I have a computer science degree from syracuse university, and did not need to take a single java course. Nor is it required for MIT, Princeton, or Seton Hall.

Those were the other colleges I got accepted to, and I researched their programs.

Though i cannot attest for other colleges or programs.

C++ is the standard for programming, and by far is known to be the most efficient, most convenient, and widespread programming language. If you think different, good for you.

ASM.

most convenient

Java, C#, VB, etc.

and widespread programming language

Hrmm... close, but I'll give you this one.

Cpp is the defacto standard for being "elite". Yes, it's a good language and yes I enjoy it more than the likes of VB or Pascal but more often than not the people screaming about how great it is are either (1) Overzealous fanboys who obsess over everything they enjoy or (2) newbies who just picked up the language and are braging about knowing the great see plus plus. Most people just use the language they feel is best for a given situation and they don't !@#$%^&*in babble to other developers/people that lanauge x is better than y in unwarrented, passive-aggressive, horse-!@#$%^&* comments.

Lol the whole god !@#$%^&* programming world is passive-aggressive language babble full of horse-!@#$%^&* comments.

In fact the whole world is passive-aggressive babble full of horse-!@#$%^&* comments.

That really depends on your definition of what you consider convienent. I consider not being able to do pointer arithmetic very inconvientant, but having code generated for you being convienent. !@#$%^&* if you really want to talk about convienent lets go with not having to declare types unless you want to (i.e. python, perl, groovy, etc).

Where I am replace C++ with Java and that is the at!@#$%^&*ude you get from people as everyone has been explicitly taught C++ cause they are required to take it, but those that scream about how great Java is are the fanboys and newbies who don't even know what a pointer is.

You are very right about how in most situations you pick the language best situated for the project. And when that isn't a factor, you pick the one that you like the most, or that your boss wants you do use. But that doesn't give you room to spout how C++ is a worthles language compared to the "almighty java." They both have strengths and weaknesses.

True enough. Though, I was just throwing out quick examples and since I don't expect him to be able to cite counter examples, I didn't think I would to justify any of them.

I'm not claiming anything about any language other than they all have their own advantages and disadvantages; infact, thats the entire point of this thread: to get people to stop that. It bugs the !@#$%^&* out of me.

It seems you didn't read this entire thread -- for someone who started off on common ground, you certainly turned that around by the end of your final paragraph. With the exception of veg and yourself, no one else in this thread has done anything other than demonstrated exactly what I've been ranting about the whole time and/or what you've touched on in your second statement. I find it both interesting and frustrating that you didn't catch that.

Actually, from reading most of your posts, I was given the impression that you don't like that C++ is even considered a good language. I apologize if it was wrongly implied. I did feel bad about that last line and almost edited it out, but I got the impression from you that you think java is simply better than C++. I've had that conversation (java vs C++) with many people so I prolly read too much into your arguments. I myself will, in general, pick C++ if there is no strong reason not to (which is ironic since I am heavily involved is using Groovy recently >.> <.<).

Anyway! Sorry for becoming !@#$%^&*ly at the very end of that last post. I must have been reading too far inbetween the lines that gremlins came out and rearranged the words in my eyes. It has been known to happen. In fact, now that I read the posts again, I am not sure exactly how I got that impression. So don't ask me to cite it blum.gif

It's not much of a discussion, you were already owned by... 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... Ok, well I don't have enough time to count everyone but you get the picture.

SS development sucks (no offense to the people who do it)

This game isnt worth developing, just quit and find a new game or get a life. It's for the good of the people if this gam never got played again, students would concentrate more on their education, adults wouldnt want to be such perverts over the students, the unemployed could go out and get a job etc...

All this arguing, flaming, backstabbing and name calling. Is it all worth it?
