Excel Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Just a suggestion to prevent spamming posts like the recent one ((here)http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?showtopic=12646) This is just a suggestion. Flame if you wish. Preferably not... but yeah. Hopefully there is a way to prevent people from posting for a set amount of time between the time of them joining the forum and their first post. -xl
Telson Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 good thought but unneccessary. The delay will only frustrate/turn away legit newcomers to our forums. Spam is unavoidable, however the mods are doing a good job of keeping it under control and thats all that matters.
Badger3920 Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I'm a T3G staff member, and I agree that it's obnoxious, however I think that most forum moderators can catch that stuff in time. I would hate for one of our newer players to join the forums, and not be able to post. I didn't vote, but I can see both sides of the argument here. Probably not needed.
»Maverick Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Good proposition, but isn't necessary (if it's even doable). Like Telson said, spam is unavoidable.
»doc flabby Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 A better idea is to prevent people posting clickable hyperlinks untill they have a postcount over 5. for example instead of thisflabby.tv people with a small postcount would instead see there posts changed to this flabby.tv
NBVegita Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 No matter how long the delay is, if someone just wants to spam on the forum, they will just create the account and do it tomorrow instead of today. I'm with the rest of the group.
Excel Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 The thing is, the delay will discourage them NBVegita. They join a forum, paste a pre-written paragraph about whatever they want, and they're done. They don't want to wait a specific amount of time before they can post. However, I can see everyone's point about also discouraging actual new players from posting. Building on doc flabby's point, maybe we can not allow anything link related to be posted at all for members under a certain amount of posts? As in.. if anything in the post has a www. or an http:// or something, do not allow it to be posted. -xl
PoLiX Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Or we just don't worry about it and let the admins and mods continue doing their jobs...
Incomplete Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 What polix said. If you stop people making links to sites until they reach 5 posts or whatever then they will just spam to get there anyway and i dont mean spam as in creating a opintless topic. I mean spam as in typing 1 worded posts such as "agreed" like the majourity of attrations posts.
rootbear75 Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 I mean spam as in typing 1 worded posts such as "agreed" like the majourity of attrations posts.thats the worst kind of spam
