neichler Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 I was trying to play Subspace / Continuum after a very long time tonight and i had the same problem you guys were talking about in the other posts. Continuum won't load and crss eating lots of cpu and etc etc etc Well... First of all, as far as i can see, it has nothing to do with any other program but just with Windows XP SP2 (access rights) Here is the way to play until developers can get a "more elegant" solution. 1) Install Continuum under an "administrator rights" account. DONT RUN IT AFTER INSTALL!2) Share the installation directory with "change rights for ppl in network" (it will apply to other users in the computer too) 3) Log in with some other "limitted rights" account and play the game as you always did in the past. Of course if you are not using "simple share" you could (instead of share the installation directory) give "change rights" to the limitted account you plan to use to play the game in that directory. It tooks me some time to realize what was going on, but when i remembered that Subspace / Continuum is in fact a wild animal from the past i came to this solution that i think will be satisfactory for most users until our christmas gifts PS: There is just one absolute truth about windows: DONT MESS WITH DIRECTX! NEVER!
»Maverick Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Your posts is full of flaws and not even close to fixing the original problem - you are only trying to continuum run under a different user which has write permissions to Continuum's directory. Also, your statement about not touching directx is quite stupid, seems like you have knowledge over what it exactly is and does.
Guest Guest Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Unless you can program a fix, we only have access to workarounds. His solution is just as valid as running it with "run as" and selecting the user account to run it under. It avoids having to go through the zone selection dialogue each time, at the expense of having to switch accounts. However, lots of gamers past and present have separate gaming accounts with very limited processes running in the background to maximize bandwidth and limit latency.
»Maverick Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 This problem is caused by an external program/process (only a few players are experiencing it, not everybody). A program fix wouldn't help solving it, nor does Helper's "solution". P.S. It's already common knowledge that running Continuum via "Run As" only causes more problems then the user previously had.
Delic Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 Well from what I've seen, quite a few players have this problem. And it's true that using Run As will cause trouble, but apparently not to everyone who do it.Of course, if you can avoid doing it then that's always best since it's not worth the risk. Here's another temporary solution that works with SP2 (I don't know if this has been posted before but I'll post it just in case). (the_snake)>my computer properties -> advanced -> performance -> settings -> data execution prevention You go there and browse for Continuum and add it. It's so simple so I'd be surprised if no one has said it before >;P
