I figured a thread containing everyones constructive suggestions for how we could improve the public arena gameplay for the zone would help the staff and development team in particular shape the future of the zone.

 

So, without anymore fanfare, post your ideas, but please don't detract from the thread with useless profanities or suggestions that don't fit the topic.

We need a complete overhaul of 17th if this is to be done. Since MTN isnt doing anything because he doesnt even know whats going on, we need to break apart from 17th Parallel and make a completely new zone of our own where we dont have to wait for MTN. Seriously this is ridiculous, its going to take forever for him to finally just give Delic the HSysop spot.

 

Now, seeing that its a soccer based zone, we need to keep it that way. The maze is always a focal point for 17th, so we should keep that as well. Make new East west bases, or North South bases, or some sort of base around goals. We should also look at other zones for ideas as well. For example Fusion uses a jackpot system to keep the game going for good amounts of time. The teams there dont flag and win the game as fast as they can, they sometimes purpsosely nute flags to allow the jackpot to build up. We can do this with Soccer, where we have a jackpot that builds up and the first team to 5 pts or wins by 2 pts wins the jackpot, and the teams wont try to win the game as fast as possible so they can get a good sized jackpot at the end. By doing this we will have longer games, and longer games allows for larger pops to build up.

 

And seriously if somethin is to be done with 17th, it needs to be a complete restart. Erase everything and start over, keep a few things like Rumble and dueling ya know. That obvious stuff, but ya get my drift. Oh, keep the spree stuff, everyone liked that, and dont keep resetting the !@#$%^&*ed thing too.

Here is one of my ideas which a few have seen:

 

Heroes

Ships 2-4 Versus 6-8

 

Ships have similar layout in abilites - one is bomb, one cloak, one is bullets. Not necessarily a proper or set thing, but just the idea for now.

 

When one ship exhibits great skill either in a kill spree/balling/points/flagging/whatever the first one to get to a set goal turns into ships 1 or 5, depending which side you are on.

 

This ship is the hero ship which cant be taken down by a normal ship. A hero must rise from the opposing side - that hero has the weapon needed to take down the other.

 

If a hero rises and helps takes over the territory or scores all the goals or whatnot for his team then what does the other team have to stop the hero? They have to strategize and contain - for example if the credit system was in play they would by bricks and repels so that they can build up their status to heroic.

 

A question to be asked from this idea is, Would it be better if everyone could get to the heroic status, or if the first player to get to the total got it?

 

Anyway, something could track whoever got the most heroes and there could then be an event in that pub - the top two heroes would be made two opposing kings and they would choose their kingdom (team) for a last battle before the reset.

 

 

Ive got another idea but ill wait and post that at a later time.

Manus, what he is suggesting is similiar to SWZ's settings, is it not? Well, the "hero" ship idea.

 

We need a better shipset, because the current/old one really blows.

- Each ship needs to keep in touch with its "roots", ie; leviathan a tank, etc.

 

We need the !bountyrecord options back, but without the daily restarting.

- Maybe hire a "bounty-hunter" who makes sure that each bounty is legit.

 

We need to stay a soccer/free-fly zone, because both of those options attract large amounts of people.

- Soccer attracted people like hemmorhoid, miami dolphan, etc.

- Free-Fly attracted people such as %selfname.. and others?

I say incinerate the old centre and bring the bases closer together. Keep the old east and west, remove north. Add a small room just inside the entrance of each base containing a safety and a spawn point. To keep people interested with such a low pop it has to be small and with a purpose (base-concentrated).

What Sever suggests makes total sense. If you look at (what is now) SSI SuperBall, the two goal sides are a lot closer and have a more appealing gameplay. Even though they each have different settings, if 17th Parallel made its West/East bases closer, it could bring more appeal into the balling part of it, instead of flying a zillion kilometres to score...

I agree with the bases closer.

Could we also throw in flags?

I remember when they had the flags inside the bases.

Its always fun having flags to boost your score for bouncing bullets.

Wether the flags are in set positions or you can grab them and bring them to your base, I dunno.

Maybe both. I like the taking them to your base

idea but in the past 17th has just had them in set pos!@#$%^&*ons which isn't bad. Just some

people tend to not care about getting them then.

Adding one carryable flag to the soccer game might make it more interesting. Just one flag though, we don't want a low pop to think they don't have a big enough team to handle the whole game. I'd suggest a team jackpot and no weapons bonus for carrying, the emphasis has to be on team-base play, not flying around getting kills.

 

I wouldn't mess with the sets too much. They were fine when i was last playing and pub was getting 10v10, i don't know what they are now. I'll be back to England in a week and might have time to play.

Yea, having a movable flag for point gain is a great idea. If people get bored of playing soccer they can go play for points to buy bounce and such. This also should promote killing too.

 

Or we could get rid of the maze, and put a small base right in the middle of the arena and have the flag in that base. So people would always be in the middle there, and if theres a ball game goin on the baller would have to p!@#$%^&* near that base where people are getting the flag and the two games, flag and balling, will intertwine there. It would keep everyone involved rather than before with having the flags up north completely separate from the ball game.

Thats not a bad idea, with the spawn points in east and west it would work well. Although i'd still be cautious about a third base detracting from the soccer gameplay even if it is in the middle of the arena.

Phoenix

 

The theme is that every ship is an offshoot of the phoenix. This is a soccer zone that has two ballers, one long baller (phoenix/terrier or whatever name) and a short baller (probably weasel).

 

The Phoenix Terrier has only one weapon; a burst that can fill half a base and take out anyone within its range. The purpose of all the other ships is to clear out/defend/hide/take cover against the coming of the phoenix. When it reaches a certain point the phoenix basically clears the base, enabling a quick and easy goal.

 

Time Travel zone (!@#$%^&*S would be best i guess)

 

From what i remember people telling me is that you could use wormholes as portals into other arenas or to other parts of the map. Bascially these different parts of the map would be past or future versions of the main map and possibly futureistic/past ships and sets. So you coudl have three interweaving arenas going at once with a logical end in the last arena or portion of the game.

 

Repels have the bullet stopping thing.

 

Use a time theme with the zone (flagging?)

 

 

*Random ideas*

 

An arena where you look bottom up at ships, or several arenas with different perspectives featuring new backgrounds/gameplay?. A side view, bottom up view, top down view... corner view?

 

An arena that has a blue lined paper background and the ships are line drawings that shoot colored paper balls.

 

Again most are probably event ideas but there needs to be a distinctive feature and a better interaction from the game to the player. A notable sentence in a wikipedia entry is that continuum has no storyline - make a story out of the people that play. If one was using the time theme, why does everything return to what it was every two weeks? Our scores reset to 0, Zero Hour? WTF?

 

What should be sought after is easy accessible play and longevity. No looped out sets - fast levi = no-no. Logical places for these ships.

 

Pub is Public - for everyone. None of the Pubbers are newb shat that sometimes came about in the past. Events should reflect mostly the settings of the public map and be defined as events that mirror the public. Special events (like a race, or any event that requires extraneous settings) should be denoted as special.

 

Well i think im done.

 

And if 17th is still the theme and still the name of the zone then that theme should be drawn upon. It doesnt necessary mean that army men or tanks or used, but combine the spaceship mythos with the battles of Vietnam. Or something. I dont know. I'm done with my idea spillage.

Echoes

 

One team is cloakers and another is Non cloak. The non cloak have bursts/mines that allow them to locate the cloaking team. Mines/burst do alot of stuff but do no damage. (similar to that metal gear event?)

 

The only thing that does damage is a bomb or bullet. Also the only way to really see the cloaking team is to be in spec on the certain freq. Dont know what weapon cloaks get....brick maybe?

i say we take the soccer one step further.. we do the CTF Metal Gear style... and lets make it eaiser to kill. The eaiser to kill the mmore neewbs we attract but im talkin about 1 shot !@#$%^&* tW style though
