!@#$%^&*S is not a good choice for Trench Wars at this point in time

ASSS isn't good for any zone. The new version of continuum isn't easy to install which makes newbies diffucult to play or think that this is a good game.

I disagree. There are situations where ASSS is a good choice, but the current TW is not one of them

Sounds good flabby, it's nice to see stuff getting used :D

I have been offering ASSS dev zones for almost a year now for people who want to play around and learn to build modules. In all that time only 2 people have actually taken up the offer.

Zone development is a small world. I still don't have anybody connected to my public biller, although 1 person did use it for a month or two. Perhaps zone development is going extinct, as compared to a few years ago it was still at large. Maybe it's because of the combination of the lack of Continuum updates and the typical reasons why people are leaving Subspace (or leaving so quickly once they try it out).

I find Trench Wars a bad place to bring someone new to. Everyone has almost an equal chance with that one shot one kill; we're all good players! Eventually (and pretty quickly) you get bored of shooting people with those one-shot-one-kill bullets, there's no challenge. I would highly recommend you do not even introduce a new player to Trench Wars events either, because that ended it quicker. New players need place with challenge to play (SVS will always have that challenge). Introduce a player to super-styled zones, and it is possible and maybe more likely he won't go to SVS from there on.

I used to hate SVS for about mega_shok.gif% of my 6 or 7 years of Subspace, but I forced that to change. I really do love it now. smile.gif

i started playing in TW and am still playing it two and half years later. I love TW.

I didnt get into events when i started playing.

The main thing i did was just fly around in pub killing people.

Or dueling people at safes. Then i found out how to change arena lol, i still play pub alot. My second zone is EG.

if you want a challenge in TW show players ?go elim or ?go wbduel or ?go tourny.

Ok. I'll try that next time. ;o

 I'm sure new people just come in the zone that has more people, such as TW

Thats why the come in, and see that It might suck, to some others it can be fun but to others it sucks,

and to the people that think it sucks will think that the other zones must suck too, so they decide to not play Continuum.

Back on why the population has gone down.. Probably because, like someone else said, the Continuum generation is getting older, going to college, getting jobs, going back into that scary place we call life, etc. While the new generation of gamers see this game, then see other, new, 3D games and think they're better because they look better. (I know my first impressions of a game were based on their graphics when I was 11 or 12.)

Not to mention, this game doesn't get advertised nearly enough. I don't even remember how I found this game, but I'm pretty sure it was entirely by chance, not because I saw any banner ad that I found interesting or anything.

So I think it's a combination of being slightly outdated, poor marketing, and lack of appeal to younger players.

I think marketing is working well

there have been 2372 visits to the getcontinuum.com website so far in January.

One problem is the game is hard to get started in. Its not very obvious how you create a new player.

Me, at the time, there wasn't many other zones outside VIE's servers. SSX !EXTREME GAMES! just stood out and the name sounded cool. Nothing big on population, but with a name like that, had to be something interesting in it. Been my home zone for years now.

and i bet you over half those visits were from the ss community.

you can view the places these people have visted from in the stats too. About a third are from non-ss sites.

ok, sure. but the population hasn't increased has it? all you're getting is website hits. that's all.

the problem is the client seems to be having trouble on a number of new machines.

Alot of people cant get it to run at all, or they may not work out how to play it.

The more interesting statistic would be the ratio of downloads to site page views.

Then the number of downloads to number of people who actually connect to a continuum zone.

The main problem is we have no long term stats of the population. So we can't tell the effect of any advertisng campain

Population may in fact be increase, or stablizing. We simply can't tell without the statistics

We really need stats that records the average population each day. then you can see whats going on in the long term.

Just wait until Vista becomes widespread!

Continuum works fine in vista. vista will be more compatible with continuum than xp as it doesnt allow AV programs to mess about.

Just because it has worked for the handful of people who have been using a beta version of Vista doesn't mean that it won't cause an increase of problems when a large portion of the playerbase switches over to Vista. It doesn't take a brainic to figure out that just because it works on 5 peoples computers means that it is going to work fine on everyone elses computer.

You obviously have not read the thread.

Continuum DID NOT WORK ON VISTA BETA

Continuum DOES WORK IN VISTA RETAIL (ie the one you can buy in the shop and is installed on new computers)

If continuum runs on 5 different computers with different hardware. thats a pretty good indication it will work on most machines.

The idea of windows or any OS is that if software runs on one machine it will run on ALL of them.

I think vista will cause less problems because AV software can't mess about like it can in xp and cause the 100% cpu usage issues.

No offense but the moderators here need to let up and stop being so prone to editing.

You shouldn't annoy what users you still have left by editing things that really don't need to be edited just because you are slightly annoyed by the posts contents.

Continuum doesn't load on some computers even with XP. I think the Tech Support forum will show that. And we've found more and more lately, that sometimes it isn't even spyware and such causing it. I've received a lot of pms and e-mails (Some reason people e-mail me back/pm me back on the auto welcome PM) of people with technical issues, or still having issues and our tech support 'Can't seem to help'. Sadly, they can only do what they can, as any of us. We have no major fixes, just have to continually find work arounds. So it is possible Vista can still cause issues, and people are just going to blame it on Vista alone, not the possibility it is the same issues people are having with XP.

That aside, it is still possible that Vista with certain Video Cards or Chipsets could kill continuum. I couldn't play on my ASUS board, but my AsRock one it loaded just fine, 2 different chipsets, all I could ever figure.
