Hitec Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 I think because the game is not organized.
L.C. Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 The answer is more logical. Anybody who has played Subspace long enough and has had a taste of 3D Gaming will definately know the #1 reason.
»1587200 Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Not really. My reason for leaving can be summed up with: SSCouncil
NBVegita Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 And on a nother note, the ss generation is growing up. I have a full time career, while going back to college to finish another degree part time, and a fiance. SS hasn't fit into my life in a long time lol
Ophie Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 And on a nother note, the ss generation is growing up. I have a full time career, while going back to college to finish another degree part time, and a fiance. SS hasn't fit into my life in a long time lolwell put. i believe that is the most logical case at the moment. time to attract a new generation!
»Maverick Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 I think new generations are already being attracked to the game but they leave earlier or don't play at all because the new generation doesn't like playing a game like Continuum anymore.
»doc flabby Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Organization has nothing to do with. Extremly disorganised stuff can be highly sucessful. Alot of people dont like things to be well organised and neat (im one of them) Maybe the population is dropping because popular + innovative zones that people play get shutdown. I think also the lack of client dev is having an impact. Continuum added lvz, but nothing extra has been done for 4 years...
Ophie Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Organization has nothing to do with. Extremly disorganised stuff can be highly sucessful. Alot of people dont like things to be well organised and neat (im one of them)ok lets not talk about preferences here. sure you might like disorganized things, but is that why you are attracted to subspace? give me an example of how disorganization has actually made a community successful. You were speaking in very cliche and generally vague format, and "disorganized stuff can be successful" doesn't speak about communities. I believe that since we've lost subspace.net, we have lost a central place for people to come visit. SSCentral is not really the central place for ppl to come visit and i have several reasons for that (i really dont want to go into detail cuz im writing an exam in the morning... and im heading on vacation tomorrow).
»doc flabby Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 have you tried visiting http://www.subspace.net i think you may be surprised
rootbear75 Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 have you tried visiting http://www.subspace.netthats the same site as www.getcontinuum.com
MikeTheNose Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 This game is as interesting as playing asteroids. There are a lot better games out there. There are many subspace 3d type games, and one of which that is even free. It's called Alliegence.
»doc flabby Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 There are a lot better games out there.then why are you still here? go play them. Lets compare them Furious Space Action Combat * Defend the honor of one of three unique factions. Choose between 18 fighter craft and 20 distinct weapon types. Create massive space stations, or captain 16 different capital ships. Choose strategically, there is no turning back.Alliegence wins in pure numbers subspace only has 8 ships and 3 weapons. However i think if you looks at the number of zones we do have a larger variety of ships and weapons than Alliegence* Enter environments rich with asteroids, planets, novas, nebulae, and naturally occurring wormholes.Sounds like subspace to me* Utilize all your senses. Fully 3D stereo sounds and Force Feedback joystick support add visceral impact to game events like collisions, failing shields, passing capital ships, and weapon fire.subspace doesnt have force feed back or 3d audio * Blow your enemies away. Stunning, colorful effects and explosions intensify the furious combat experience.i dont think my $$ explosion image really countsIncredible Multiplayer Experience * Break free from predictable wingmen and drone enemies. Allegiance is built from the ground-up to be an evolving, unpredictable challenge with and against other humans.subspace is pretty much like that* Form your alliances carefully. Allegiance supports up to six teams of between 3 and 15 players each. Varying win conditions like deathmatch, deathwatch, property, capture the flag, and conquest provide a diverse gameplay experience.Subspace has more alliance options with squads, freqs and a much large number of game types. * Play anywhere. Set up your own game servers, play on public Internet servers or on local area networks (LANs).Same as subspace * Play a variety of roles like scout, fighter pilot, turret gunner, bomber, capital ship captain, base defender, investor, and commander. Each game and each player's experience can be unique.i dont think we have investor or commander in subspace.* Learn on the fly. New players can learn while playing by taking on subordinate, single-action roles.new players just do what they wantStrategic Squadron Play * Invest in success. Choose to play conquest games, where development and management of crucial resources are keys to your success. Progress through a rich technology tree full of unique weapons like sniper rifles, advanced bases like the deadly shipyard, specialized spacecraft like the AWAC, and new equipment like the cloaking device.subspace is not a strategy game.* Communicate with your squad-mates. Features like instant voice-chat make essential communication with your squadron quick and easy. Press the "attack my target" key, and your friends hear a human voice screaming, "attack my target," in addition to an arrow in their HUD indicating which target to attack.same as subspace (wav marcos anyone)* Master the strategy. Any player can access the third-person strategic overview, giving them a full view of what's going on in the game. This allows would-be commanders to get a bird's eye perspective of the game and to issue strategic and tactical objectives to teammates and mining/building drones.press F11 in subspace. The problem is very few modern games match the depth of subspace, they are all very simple now (for the m!@#$%^&* market)... i get bored with newer games quicker than i used to they don't challenge me. I think if people could find a game that was really significantly better than subspace, subspace wouldnt be here still....
»Maverick Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 It's called Alliegence. It's called Allegiance EDIT: Here is a screenshot. You can't compare this to subspace/continuum.
L.C. Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 The problem is very few modern games match the depth of subspace, they are all very simple now (for the m!@#$%^&* market)... i get bored with newer games quicker than i used to they don't challenge me. I think if people could find a game that was really significantly better than subspace, subspace wouldnt be here still....I might have came back from 3D gaming because I got bored with all of it (and especially the fact that I can't really do 3D Gaming on dialup). 3D gaming has some neat advantages, but Subspace is just right for dialup and I! Though, it might also be nice to implement a "side scrolling" kind of feature, physical boxes, 0.5 sized units, being able to take full advantage of the other 128 some extra tiles, human support (aka instead of replacing your ships with just graphics to imitate a human combat, there would literally be coding support for this), vehicles, etc. I also think VoIP/Voice Comm should be implemented, aswell as being able to have some fancy HUD features where you can select players (and maybe a green circle or cool sci-fi high-tech animation would roll/move/swing over the selected player on your screen or radar) to specify an "attack my target." Heh. Might also be cool if there was a feature where a team could have a commander or something (like in Natural Selection for Half-life). If any of these were implemented, most of them would probably be something that can be toggled on and off and in different ways so that it wouldn't ruin the default and standard Subspace gameplay. I'm daydreaming.
candygirl Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 I only get to play ss for about 15min everyother day
»D1st0rt Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 I didn't really like Allegiance There is a potentially untapped market in linux users though (for subspace)
Trip' Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 No one uses Linux, I didnt even know what it was until last year!! And SS's pop is going down for the sole fact that people get bored of it. There is no advertising of the game whatsoever, and I find that surprising because all that needs to be said about the game is that its cool, a shoot the !@#$%^&* out of someone else in a ship in space, and ITS FREE!! Thats why I dont play WoW is because I hear it costs $15/mth to play. Now thats just fuking stupid, who pays $15/mth to play a game, I dont give a !@#$%^&* that 7 million people do and that its a cool game. Thats just a plain waste of money. It makes about as much sense as buying Madden 07 when you already have Madden 06!! Lol, got a bit off topic there. But yea, there just needs to be better advertisement of the game. And the best advertisement is the word of mouth. Friends trust friends about things like this, so simply spread the word.
Dav Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 problem is 1. lack of development isn't offering anything new. 2. All the bull!@#$%^&* over who has the biggest e-penis is leading to damage of the community (zone get shut down/ moved, community is split up all over the place) which leaves people disillusioned as to what this game still has to offer and how long it will last. 3. player base is getting older and has less time / interest 4. other games that look more impressive are taking the population (mostly for reasons 1 and 2)
»i88gerbils Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 Might also be cool if there was a feature where a team could have a commander or something (like in Natural Selection for Half-life). !@#$%^&*. I've had this idea for the past year and a half. No energy to implement it. I was just thinking of making a post explaining my ideas and letting someone run with it. Also NS rules.
Witchie NL Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I wonder when the hero comes up and saves the game...There always is a hero who saves the day!
Trained Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I dont think there is gonna be a hero in this game. Its old, but unless we get some major updates I think that the population will slowly decrease, and eventually die out. I know thats a bad way to think of it, unless everyone just gets a sudden change of heart and starts playing again.
»doc flabby Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 This game is the closest i have seen to subspace. It appears to have been heavily infuenced by subspace. it is more of an space trading game tho. http://www.starportgame.com http://www.starportgame.com/image/10.jpg
candygirl Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I tried to go on that web page doc flabby posted but my fraud protection keeps popping up saying it’s not a safe page and it locks me out
