He wants to know how to fix it. People aren't morons just because they are suggesting for him to remove his anti-virus programs... That's how you fix it.

Rethink your response, !@#$%^&*.

The fact these people are telling you to remove your anti-virus/anti-spyware are morons. This game isn't worth getting Trojans over.

We are not saying to remove there anti-virus/anti-spyware all they need to do is shut it down and see if the game works.

I'm LoLing my !@#$%^&* this topic is still alive.

Even more that they refered back to an advice from Robin Keir (who IS FYI an awesome programmer) which was made in reference to SubSpace using DX v3, on win95 back in '96...GG LoL!

As for continuum...sometimes it goes !@#$%^&*wad, esp. when some other program didn't close properly and is messing !@#$%^&* up.

Only way to get rid of the continuum process is to restart.

Or you can try the sysinternal tools, maybe one of them can assist you...doubtful though.

Basically, pricktech screwed up and the error msg doesn't come on-screen only until the PC initializes shutdown and hardforce all active processses to shutdown internally.

that still does not fix the problem, registry cleaning should work, but continuum must put some entry somewhere obscure to stop cheat programs presumably.

on my computer, uninstalling then restarting doing a registry clean then restarting and installing continuum again does not restore continuum to its original working condition... this is even after a system restore to a time when it was working.... this completely mystifies me.

someone should get a hold of the dude who made it and get im to spend 5 min fixing the !@#$%^&* thing, cos i bet its just some messed up thing he didnt notice at the time

I've successfully copied cont's files to other PCs and executed them flawlessly.

Whatever issue you have with continuum isn't caused by it rather by your inept system.

Did you try to scan for adware etc. malware?

Anyway...format. Meh.

yes i have also used continuum on a flash drive on numerous occasions, and ive scanned my computer with 7 antivirus programs, ive also scanned it for spy ware and mal ware, none were found.

my computer is runnning fine.... thanks for implying i run a !@#$%^&* computer... and that i dont know how to protect it from viruses and whatnot.

i have a question for anyone who might know the answer to this:

would nvidia's multiple desktop features be able to cause continuum to not run and cause the game dll files to not load?

im not sure because it is still buggered and ive disabled the nvidia desktop features and it is still buggered.

ADDITIONAL

(someone should make continuum have alerts like a firewall if a program would cause it to not load, this would make it easier to fix these kind of problems)

(also maby include a repair.exe to repair continuum if the !@#$%^&* thing gets twitchy and ASSS up)

no, because i have the same feature (even though i only have one monitor) and cont loads up fine...

i haven't tried it with more than 1 monitor tho....

I remember some people saying that going back in time with a windows rescue point fixed it... If you're saying "it just started happening" and that "nothing has changed on my system" , that might do it.

i still think it isnt the virus scanner or firewall... becouse im still not entierly sure on how a old virus scanner would hurt it all of the sudden

It must be something to do w/ NVIDIA drivers because i have uninstalled all anti-viruses, and the only processes that are running are by Microsoft. Fortunately, i will be reformatting my computer soon and it will cure the problem.

Also, uninstall/disable that anti-spyware program that you've had for years. That could be causing the issue.

Another quote from the Technical FAQ, sorry but couldn't import it directly...

"There are many reports where attempting to run Continuum does nothing at all. It never shows up.

This is always caused by some other program that Continuum does not like.

Continuum has built-in security mechanisms that do not allow it to be run if a suspicious program is active.

You can try closing the "suspicious" programs or uninstalling them.

These are the types of programs that are most likely to do this and some known troublemakers are also listed:

Anti-spyware programs (SpySweeper, AdWatcher, Spyware Doctor, ...)

Spyware programs

Firewalls

Anti-virus programs (Panda AntiVirus, Norton AV 005...)

Any other security programs

Any auto-scanning programs

Data Execution Prevention (in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance Settings/DEP)

Any "system fixer" tools (Tune-Up Utilities, ...)

Programming tools (debuggers)

Norton programs

If you have a nVIDIA card try this:

Control Panel - Display - Advanced - Gforce6900 (or your card name) - Additional Direct3D Settings

There you will find "Max Frames to Render Ahead" and that option should be set to "0".

One known problem is the "Protect against unknown threats" option in Panda AntiVirus and other similar products.

You might have to uninstall them, not just disable. (Try to disable them first, of course)

Note: adding Continuum to the ignore list of these programs might not help! You might have to completely remove these programs or make them not run at all when the computer starts up. Disabling them when already running might not help.

Note: disabling any "heuristic" or "detect unknown viruses" options in anti-virus programs might help.

Note: since you can't get rid of spyware without anti-spyware programs, you should do this to ensure best compatibility:

1) Install anti-spyware

2) Run it and clean the system

3) Uninstall anti-spyware

If it still does not run after removing suspicious programs, you should use a "registry cleaner" program to clean the computer's registry (parts of the programs you uninstalled could still be there).

Some other possible fixes to try:

(Windows XP) Right-click Continuum and select Properties. Go to the "Compatibility" tab and check "Disable visual themes". Click OK and run Continuum normally.

You can also try the other settings in the "Compatibility" tab. Try setting the Windows version to 98 or others, for example.

Create a new (Windows) user to play Continuum with

Try playing with a user that does not have administrator rights.

1) Install Continuum under an "administrator rights" account. DONT RUN IT AFTER INSTALL!

2) Share the installation directory with "change rights for ppl in network" (it will apply to other users in the computer too)

3) Log in with some other "limitted rights" account and play the game as you always did in the past."

------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to my own material...

No offense intended, but are you INSANE??? This could be the most entertaining online experience I'll ever miss out on, but disarming my defenses AIN'T gonna happen. Windows is vulnerable enough, thank you.

I find this advice quite suspect and highly dubious.

Why should one have to enter under administrators rights account, inorder for it to run safely? Can admin run the game whilst using spydoctor on xp ?

If so, why can't we?

Sounds like typical anti-spyware activity to me.

"Note: since you can't get rid of spyware without anti-spyware programs, you should do this to ensure best compatibility:

1) Install anti-spyware

3) Uninstall anti-spyware"

That's how I have to do it with SpywareDoctor every time. It's a great tool for cleaning your system, but will not allow Cont. to run or Cont. won't run with it.

I've also had a problem with McAfee's log file. I could run Cont., but the CPU was constantly above 50% utilization and spiking to 100%. Had to disable McLog or something like that (can't remember the exact name). You can START, RUN, services.msc to make changes to what processes are auto started on boot up. Make notes on how it is before you make any changes...

If you're really serious, I've formatted my HD to get Cont running. B) Install the OS only and then try it.
