Guest Guest Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I cannot go into full screen, I can't even load the little ship in stars animation on the zones screen, the second I hit play, it dies.
Guest Guest Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Also, uninstall/disable that anti-spyware program that you've had for years. That could be causing the issue. Another quote from the Technical FAQ, sorry but couldn't import it directly... "There are many reports where attempting to run Continuum does nothing at all. It never shows up. This is always caused by some other program that Continuum does not like.Continuum has built-in security mechanisms that do not allow it to be run if a suspicious program is active. You can try closing the "suspicious" programs or uninstalling them. These are the types of programs that are most likely to do this and some known troublemakers are also listed:Anti-spyware programs (SpySweeper, AdWatcher, Spyware Doctor, ...)Spyware programsFirewallsAnti-virus programs (Panda AntiVirus, Norton AV 005...)Any other security programsAny auto-scanning programsData Execution Prevention (in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance Settings/DEP)Any "system fixer" tools (Tune-Up Utilities, ...)Programming tools (debuggers)Norton programsIf you have a nVIDIA card try this: Control Panel - Display - Advanced - Gforce6900 (or your card name) - Additional Direct3D Settings There you will find "Max Frames to Render Ahead" and that option should be set to "0". One known problem is the "Protect against unknown threats" option in Panda AntiVirus and other similar products. You might have to uninstall them, not just disable. (Try to disable them first, of course) Note: adding Continuum to the ignore list of these programs might not help! You might have to completely remove these programs or make them not run at all when the computer starts up. Disabling them when already running might not help. Note: disabling any "heuristic" or "detect unknown viruses" options in anti-virus programs might help. Note: since you can't get rid of spyware without anti-spyware programs, you should do this to ensure best compatibility:1) Install anti-spyware2) Run it and clean the system3) Uninstall anti-spyware If it still does not run after removing suspicious programs, you should use a "registry cleaner" program to clean the computer's registry (parts of the programs you uninstalled could still be there). Some other possible fixes to try:(Windows XP) Right-click Continuum and select Properties. Go to the "Compatibility" tab and check "Disable visual themes". Click OK and run Continuum normally. You can also try the other settings in the "Compatibility" tab. Try setting the Windows version to 98 or others, for example. Create a new (Windows) user to play Continuum withTry playing with a user that does not have administrator rights. 1) Install Continuum under an "administrator rights" account. DONT RUN IT AFTER INSTALL!2) Share the installation directory with "change rights for ppl in network" (it will apply to other users in the computer too)3) Log in with some other "limitted rights" account and play the game as you always did in the past." ------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to my own material... No offense intended, but are you INSANE??? This could be the most entertaining online experience I'll ever miss out on, but disarming my defenses AIN'T gonna happen. Windows is vulnerable enough, thank you.
Guest Ayden Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Boo, I woke up this morning and for the first time in about 2 years I thought - I'm gonna play SS today. And I find it and it doesn't work because I'm using Windows XP A game isn't worth uninstalling all your virus protection... And if it's possible to simply start the game by using Run As then the real solution can't be far off. Please send me a SubSpace angel!
Hakaku Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Continuum should run, just DO NOT RUN VIRUS SCANNERS BEFORE PLAYING IT (notably ad-aware, spybot, spydoctor, etc). Most firewalls are okay though (but, I've only tested Mcafee and ZoneAlarm). Try loading windows XP and the first thing you do is open Continuum. (note: Do not open it through "run as..."). This should work. Also make sure you don't have Continuum set to "read only". And do not set Continuum to run in 'compatible mode'.
rootbear75 Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 ive got to say, that i am running XPand i have Trend Micro PC-Cillin running on my machine and cont runs fine...
findingemo Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 When continuum hangs I cant kill the process unless I use pskill. It's annoying. The only processes I have in the background is just nod32 + avg + zonealarm. when i try to change the compatibility i get fatal error 000000d4...
Hakaku Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Once again,http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=151194 Source of problem: nod32 + avg + zonealarm Do not change Continuum's compatibility mode. This does nothing except give you errors because XP can't emulate any other windows versions for Continuum. Hence, fatal error 000000D4.
Guest Guest:findingemo_* Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 still wont load...even with all protection off. and yes i did restart it with the protection off thanks to good old msconfig

»Maverick Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Nothing wrong with McAfee Firewall unless you configured it to take over control of the computer or something. What does the "System Mechanics" do?
Guest Guest Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Nothing wrong with McAfee Firewall unless you configured it to take over control of the computer or something. What does the "System Mechanics" do? System mechanics just repairs my computer. Like fixing broken icons and shortcuts, scanning for virusis and adware, defragmenting computer, and stuff like that. oh and its mcafee security center-UnknownSoldier00-
»Maverick Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Have you tried just disabling all 3 (firewall, security center and mechanics) for now and see if it helped running continuum ?
Guest Guest Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 i jusy did and it sill wont work... is it bad for your system idle to be at 90%? even if your not doing anything -UnknownSoldier00-
Yavaris Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) System mechanic = lethal to continuum. Practically all registry cleanup programs make cont crash on startup. But for some reason if you cleanup your reg while playing cont, it'll still work afterwards. I had the same problem as you. (only continuum.exe in task manager and no startup) Only problem for you is I can't remember how I fixed the problem. I think I deinstalled cont, ran a reg cleanup, deinstalled the reg cleaner, rebooted and reinstalled cont. You might wanna try that, but I'm not sure if it'll work. Edited March 10, 2007 by Yavaris
Synook Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Maybe this will help...I have always noticed that after running SpaceCowboy (another online game), Continuum never seems to run, it has all the problems listed here. However, if I restart the computer, it seems fine.
Janipoika Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 As the topicname says, the client won't start. I've tried downloading from different places the client, but when I'm trying to start it, it makes my processor work @ 100%... It worked last year when I played Continuum, but now when I wanted to continue, it didn't work. Short: I click on the Continuum.exe The processor goes to 100% Need to reboot so I get the Continuum.exe process shut down I use Panda Platinum 2006 Internet Security, and I had no problems running Continuum last year... This sucks. :/ Thanks in advance,Jani
Hakaku Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 (edited) The only thing worst than someone not reading a sticky, is someone not reading the solutions and answers provided in the thread they posted.Anyhow, I'll repost this again:If you'd bother reading the thousands of previous threads concerning Continuum not loading on Windows XP, you'd know that this is caused by anti-virus programs. These programs include firewalls, adware/spyware/trojan remover software, registry cleaners, and anything that has to do with viruses of any sort on your computer. Most firewalls don't affect how Continuum runs, but most other virus removal tools will (such as Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spydoctor, etc). What happens is that Continuum has a built-in protection security that doesn't allow it to run if modified by external programs. This was mostly implemented to prevent external cheat programs. So if you ran a virus-scan or immunized your computer before opening Continuum, Continuum will probably not load. You won't be able to disable it by Ctrl+Alt+Delete, bdue to Continuum jumping all over the task manager and eating up CPU. Right before your computer is shutdown, you will get an error message saying "Failed to initiate Continuum .DLL". [One way to get around this is by using the "Run as" option, highly unrecommended since you won't be able to download new files] How to fix this :1. When you first log on to your PC, open Continuum right away. It should work, unless you have all your virus scanners to auto-load before logging in to your account.2. Do not run any anti-virus programs before loading Continuum.3. If you are okay doing this, disable (and optionally uninstall) all known anti-virus, firewall, and the likes programs. - This will also help prevent future problems when loading Continuum. You can also try re-enabling them one by one to see which one(s) cause(s) the problem.4. If you already know that you ran an anti-virus program before, you're only option is probably to use "Run as". - But remember you won't be able to load any new zones or arenas you haven't previously been in. Hope this helps more or less.Read more in the sticky... Edited March 13, 2007 by Hakaku
Janipoika Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 I've read that sticky already, but nothing helped, and I won't shut down Panda, because: 1) It's not my computer2) I don't want to mess around with anything just so a game would work And I think it's "The only thing worse than" and not "The only thing worst than"... But my English isn't perfect, so I can be wrong. Well, no Continuum for me then anymore. Thanks for the help.
candygirl Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 "uninstall The game go to Windows Live™ OneCare™ do a full PC safety scan "its free and it works. Then redownload the game. Do what SOS said >disabling any anti-virus programs and other protection software you may have. Not just "that one new program". You can disabl any program that will not stop your PC from working right. ( like things you dont need to run all the time.)From your pic i see over 20+ programs running. I did this to my friends PC and the game works
Guest Gappa Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 im just amazed at the fact that this bug has not been fixed yet, the only thing people say is disable your anitvirus... DUDE IVE DONE THAT IT DOESNT FIX THE PROBLEM GET IT THROUGH YOUR SKULLS. that said, someone should actually have a look at the continuum 0.39 program because it still has this stupid bug. the only way of fixing the problem would be to go into the registry and delete all continuum related files, which continuum is decidedly bad at removing during its uninstall process. the other way is to reformat the computer and run on a fresh windows install SOMEONE FIX IT NOW!!!
candygirl Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Well if you used Windows Live™ OneCare™ It cleans your registry for you. and tells you if you have a virus. I put 39 on my new lap top and it worked the first time. dont go saying its the game. it just may be soming on your pc/laptop
UnknownSoldier00 Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Im beginning to think its a virus more then virus scanners and McAfee isnt finding it. But what i realy want to know is how does old programs that were on my computer when continuum WAS working stop Continuum from working now? The only logical answer to that would be that your virus scanner updates made it do that OR Continuum039pr1 has a flaw in its system. but virus scan updates realy only add more virusis to look out for on its database, so it cant be the old virus scanner itself so it must be Continuum or a virus that is on your computer that your scan doesnt have a update for yet.
candygirl Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 How many do you think do not remove a program the right way? (Lots)Some do not no how to use there PC/Laptop tools the right way and they end up going in to there program files and find the folder the game or program is in and just delete it.If it’s deleted the wrong way “then its still in your registry. You will then have to clean your registry. Having a game that did not download right and was removed the “wrong way” Then Plz clean your registry. Then download the game.
Guest Guest Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 The fact these people are telling you to remove your anti-virus/anti-spyware are morons. This game isn't worth getting Trojans over.
