The Apache Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 Universal Music Group is suing MySpace - claiming the online social network site is encouraging its users to illegally share music and music videos. It accuses MySpace of allowing people to illegally upload videos and of providing the technology for users to share the content with others. Links to work by its artists including The Killers' date=' Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani are available, Universal alleges. But MySpace said it acted legally and dismissed the "meritless litigation". It added that its procedures for removing illegal downloads were good, and that it fully complied with copyright laws.[/quote'] full article: here. what do you guys think of this? i think it's kinda funny (seeing as how i don't like myspace), and kinda pathetic at the same time. myspace.com are right, they do not encourage to share music and music videos at all - they just have the tools to let users do that, it's also the fact that these music labels/companies are once again very quick to deal with these situations, such as sueing for money.
JmSplat Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 They don't encourage !@#$%^&*. The tools are there for garage type bands mostly and I know a few people that use it strictly for that. They don't encourage it anymore than youtube does movies and videos.
PoLiX Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 I like myspace for the fact that I have a lot of friends in the military, and it is an easy way to keep in contact. You can ask anyone, I hate e-mail, and rarely e-mail anyone anything, but this I found I like. It's nice and an easy way to hit them up. But staying on topic. There has been lately more and more people allowing the music to be downloaded. They fake the band or put up a fan music site for the sake of being able to have a song on their profile, and forget to make it undownloadable. Only way I see any file sharing being done.
scarface.nl Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 JmSplat where do I know you from?

Dav Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 does depend on the music. A lot of !@#$%^&* winds up being caught up in this kind of thing. Other bands actually host their own vids on youtube and have their own myspace to share it. Often comes down to the music it is and how uptight the rich !@#$%^&*(s) is/are about a few people not paying to enjoy music.

jacob hunter! Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 Meh, do they got any real solid prove of myspace doing this?
BDwinsAlt Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Myspace this month, Xanga by Christmas, then facebook's master plan to dominate the web will come true?
The Apache Posted November 22, 2006 Author Report Posted November 22, 2006 of course they have proof, otherwise they wouldn't be filling for a lawsuit. the reason they are sueing is because jay-z's album was leaked onto the website and was being shared.

They have been known to have lawsuits that are frankly bull!@#$%^&* to protect their business model instead of tackle the real issues.
The Apache Posted November 23, 2006 Author Report Posted November 23, 2006 but i think in this instance, they do have proof that jay z's album got leaked, otherwise they wouldn't really be filling for such a big lawsuit as we speak.
