Forum proposal

Hi,

 

Problem: Alot of worthwhile topics in Development forum are lost in the long list of pages with topics. You really want to keep them preserved by stickying them all but that's undoable.

 

Proposal: Make a new forum under Development, something like an archive or like "Usefull Development topics" where we can move the topics to so it gets easier to look them up and monitor them.

 

Just a proposal, let me know what you people think about this.

I like this idea. It gets to the point where search takes too long with all the results it brings back so this would make things a whole lot easier.

So you'd either have a search with all it's results, or a forum with all the search result threads in it? The only difference is how you view it...either way, you'll be viewing the same topics, whether it be in a search or forum.

You can't really compare it to a search because with a search you only search for specific keywords. The contents of the forum would only be composed of topics that has some value (attachments or important information) instead of the basic development questions.

 

Examples would be the 3D Ship models topic, the RTF format of news.txt, etc.

These topics you actually want to be pinned forever but that's not doable.

I dunno, IMO another forum for this would be pointless and take up space. Maybe one pinned Info thread w/links to the topics might be more realistic.

The valuable stuff should go on the new SSCentral website, not the forums. For now, I think pinning stuff is fine.

That's a good idea, Syrus, maybe I will just do that instead.

 

Agreed SOS but I think it's important to reflect the information here (where people are looking for it now).

I've got a (in my opinion) better idea. One stickied thread up at the top with a brief blurb and links to relevant threads, kinda like the Development Tools thread.

I'd go with the one thread with links idea. If you start moving threads to another forum things start to get confusing.
