Continuum lag problems

So what's going on:

Ever since I got my used AMD Athlon 2800+ (256mb ram,128mb all in wonder radeon, d-link 10/100mps ethernet, etc) computer I've had lag issues with continuum.

I was netbanned over 2 months ago for 'speedhacking' in Halo. I was told my timer sync was off, 90% ploss, etc.

I went to TW before I was netbanned (at this time i was only banned from Halo) and I talked to Kolar who said it could be a driver problem.

I posted on the MG forums and freakmonger showed me a site where i could scan to see what drivers were bad, or out of date. I had 11/20 drivers bad, but you had to pay 30$ to fix them. ($30 seemed to be the trend with all the scans) and i was too cheap to pay it.

After a while someone said to check my FPS, and it was fairly low (30) in fullscreen and my color at 32bit. I played windowed for a while (fps went up, lag went down), and it put my fps up enough to play. Then I changed my color to 16bit, and my continuum ran really nice. I could play in windowed or fullscreen without lag issues.

Now my lag is back with 16bit and windowed. My ping is usually perfect 50,50,30,mega_shok.gif 0.1 0.1 (0.4 c2s at highest) But I lag like I have a really high ploss. I notice it, and others do.

I noticed this 'internat.exe' and i heard it's probably a trojan, but nothing detects it (scans in safemode, hijackthis, etc).

I get a different answer from everyone. So is it packets, virsuses, drivers, fps?

So what I dont get is how it can change from good to bad in one day, and how it can change my timer sync, and give me really high lag.

I also clicked that trace thing on continuum and i only have one bad IP thing. It's unknown and it starts off around 90% in red, and goes up.

3 things we could use...

1. Save that trace route and post it here. Run it for atleast 100 cycles, the more the better.

2. List the drivers it said need updating, we can help you find them. If it doesn't list them, we can recommend some to update and where to get them.

3. Wired or Wireless router?

Mine does that too... but it's 3 of them.

In general, these can be caused indeed by old drivers and weird software. Try it without anything else running. The drivers to update are 1) video card drivers; 2) sound card drivers; 3) motherboard drivers. All the rest are not really important. You can usually find these on the manufacturer's homepage.

Feel free to post that inernat.exe - I'll take a look and see whether it's something bad.

Actually, post your system info, as well. Do start->run->msinfo32 and then use the file->save option and attach the file here. There is a list of running programs in there, as well - maybe I can spot something suspicious.

I need some clarification on this:

But I lag like I have a really high ploss. I notice it, and others do.

How do you notice it? What kind of lag?

WIRED

But I lag like I have a really high ploss. I notice it, and others do.

Well, I see bullets/bombs about 1-2 inches infront of ships (res 1024x768) when I play windowed, and anywhere from 2-8 inches in fullscreen. Sometimes the ships get jumpy and jump a few inches from time to time.

Other people notice my lag when they die when i shouldn't have hit them, and I'm visably lagging like anyone with dialup. blum.gif

Oh, I've had troubles with my sound drivers since i got this. I didn't know it could cause problems with continuum, but I downloaded this soundblaster driver because it was screwed, the driver should be for my comp, but it doesnt work very good. I can't run skype or teamspeak. The only thing I can run with an output is Ventrilo. I think it's weird that it works on Vent and not teamspeak

Well, I can see part of the issue. NVidia chipset motherboard with a Radeon video card. Buddy of mine tried it the other way around, and had same issues. Major FPS loss in games which caused a lot of screen lag amongst other issues. He went out and bought an ATI card, and had no issues whatsoever. Even got a cheaper one than the NVidia he had.

1st I'd goto http://www.nvidia.com and get the latest drivers for your motherboard chipset. If still having issues, if it is not only continuum, i'd try getting an nvidia video card, or borrowing one, and see if the issues go away.

Also, I went through the trouble and here is a link for your Ethernet Adapter Drivers: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/NIC/dfe530tx/Driver/d...er_10152001.exe

Looking now, I also see you have messenger plus running. Try closing it when you run continuum, and see if anything changes. Both of my brothers use to have issues with it and games, Continuum being one of them. Reason I've never used it myself.

Well, I can play games like cs 1.6, wolfenstein, etc. Which have a higher demand on your video card, so I dont think it's the graphics card.

I ended the msplus thing in task manager, and my continuum's running a lot better. :D So, I'm going to see if it stays good, could just be lucky today.

Thanks for everything guys.
