Yoink Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Where is the "lack of taste" button. Go expand your horizons. Your favorite albums should not be classics.
»1587200 Posted October 18, 2006 Author Report Posted October 18, 2006 Why not? The classics never get old.

Yoink Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Why not? The classics never get old.Because classics, at least the ones you noted, are for everyone. Music isn't about enjoying what everyone else enjoys, it's about finding something that you *really like*. You'd be surprised what you like if you do a bit of digging. And here's why. The mastering on half the CDs you listed is !@#$%^&* to begin with, so even before you get to the MUSIC, the sound quality is crap. But let me stop being negative here for a minute. Let me try to be helpful. If you liked Breaking Benjamin, give the Deadsoul Tribe a try - they're a progressive metal band. You'd probably like The Butterfly Effect, Grins!@#$%^&*, Dream Theater, and Primer 55. Google 'em. As far as rap goes? Try some Atmosphere, some Hilltop Hoods, Lordroc, Stress, or Del Da Funky Homo Sapien. Oh, you might find some stuff on Youtube too. For example, search for Primer 55 on Youtube, and watch the one named "Loose".
»SD>Big Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 well i'm a big rap fan, and if you say rap sucks, its cause all you hear is the !@#$%^&* on the radio and mtv. it like saying you hate punk when all you know is new found glory (yes i know they aren't punk, that's my whole point!) nas - illmaticthe roots - any albumde la soul - stakes is highjay z - reasonable doubtthe nonce - world ultimatetha alkaholiks - 21 and overdel tha funkee homosapian - i wish my brother george was herepublic enemy - any albumjeru the damaja - sun rises in the eastlupe fiasco - mix tapesbrand nubian - any albumcommon - resurrectionprince paul - a prince among thievesspecial ed - the missionrun d.m.c - self !@#$%^&*ledbeastie boys - licence to illgza - liquid swordsa tribe called quest - any!mos def - black on both sidesblackstar - blackstareric b and rakim - paid in fullgangstarr - moment of truthnotorious big - ready to dieslick rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rickboogie down productions - criminal mindedepmd - strictly business the list goes on and on! do i only listen to rap? of course not, i listen to what's good, right now i'm listening to pearl jam while my download of led zeplin's discography and sade's finishes. the point of all this: every genre has good music, you just gotta find it, i even like a lot of country acts. good music is good music. ps i saw massive attack in concert last week = sick Try some Atmosphere, some Hilltop Hoods, Lordroc, Stress, or Del Da Funky Homo Sapien. slug from atmosphere made 2 albums with murs, called Murs and Slug - Felt and Felt 2 check those out!

Respectively, they are dark progressive metal, power metal, and slightly industrial progressive metal. There's so much metal out there, it'd be a shame to see you guys only scratch the surface of the underground .

Because classics, at least the ones you noted, are for everyone. Music isn't about enjoying what everyone else enjoys, it's about finding something that you *really like*. You'd be surprised what you like if you do a bit of digging. I think those statements are pretty !@#$%^&* ignorant. Just because something is mainstream doesn't mean that you don't actually like it. It doesn't make it worse music just because it is mainstream. I do agree that some of the underground bands have a good sound and make good music. !@#$%^&* my favorite band, The Lostprophets, were an awesome underground band that is now working into the mainstream. But just liking something because it is not mainstream is just like liking it because it is mainstream. There is a whole mainstream for underground music. Its like how years ago hot topic was the store for the kids who "don't fit the mainstream" now it is the mainstream. My opinion, if you like how the music sounds, rock on. Doesn't matter if you listen to Mic!@#$%^&*e Branch, Megadeath, DMB or (insert random band name here). If you like it, doesn't matter if its mainstream, a classic or something not many people know about.

If you like it, doesn't matter if its mainstream, a classic or something not many people know about. Nah, they aren't. And here's why. It's a great analogy. Kamelot, a Floridian power metal band is *huge* in Europe. Millions over there love them. But in the US, they're significantly unknown. Why? The culture gap can't possibly be so significant, so it's accredited instead to the fact that the radio plays whatever the radio wants to play, not what people want to hear. Most people dont' indulge in music enough to dig for it - they're musically uneducated - point being that whatever comes out of the radio is more than enough for them.
NBVegita Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Well actually there could be a huge culture gap. One example is a big radio stations here does an "over london" segment where all they do is play rock from that area. All of the bands they play are huge over there. Everyone I know here is like...wtf... Not saying its bad, just not my cup of tea. The problem is everyone in america and their brother has a band. So when you have thousands of bands, and only so much air time, its better to play what the majority of people will listen to, suppose to catering to when the minority listens too. !@#$%^&* if I ran a radio station, and all of my profits are based on how many people would listen to my station, !@#$%^&* I'd do the same !@#$%^&* thing.
