grazzhoppa Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I feel so good that someone is doing something constructive with those models thanks for sharing them with us. Quote
Resol Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 hehe Actually, I'm kinda drunk atm, just having some fun. Here is my last attempt http://sszone.sshq.net/images/new4.gifresol4.zip Quote

Resol Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 http://www.sszone.sshq.net/images/ship03.gif I've been messing around in bryce with textures, I know I have a full version of bryce on another computer, I'll dig it up some later and maybe render the models with texture and upload them here. It wont be anything too special, so if someone with more talent then I could take the models and work on them, feel free. Great work MM. Quote

I've been monitoring this thread for a while, and only 2 people have shared 3D meshes of ships: mine (warbird, jav, terrier, weasel, lanc): http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=194934Smong's warbird: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=180162If you want to model the ships from scratch, Creamy posted a link to the perspective pictures you'll need to create accurate meshes: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=161493 Quote

The terrier looks like crap and the weasel was never "finished" They are all not ready to be used in a game, unless the game supports multi mesh models. They dont have any UV mapping. They dont have any textures. The polygons are not very "neat."The .zip contains the 3Ds Max files for them. There will be a bunch of .max files because the .zip includes the progression of all the models...usually the file with the greatest # in it is the latest. Just check the date of the files to see which has the most update-to-date/complete model. I'm handing these out cause I'm probably not going to work on them anymore and someone may like to mess around with them... Still have my remade models, due to a HD crash, I lost most of my newer game code It'll be a while before I can get this project back up and running. You can see some of the ships in my sig. Well, its offical, I'm now confused. Anyway, the models are amazing, and good job. Quote

Cheese Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) If anyone can convert these to the direct3d .x meshes, I can put them into basically any windows program we can think up, using win32/directx, which continuum is written in.I've been looking for meshes for weeks, and I just noticed this thread, as I never use these forums. TRANSLATION: Think warbird screensaver also, it doesnt need textures or colors, as long as the differently colored parts are in subsets (can be all-white)... additionally, i will permanently store a copy of the high rez ship pics here:cz.sshq.net/stuff/bigships.zip Edited April 5, 2009 by Cheese Quote
grazzhoppa Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 If anyone can convert these to the direct3d .x meshes [....]Try the attached warbird.x file Rename it to warbird.x (this forum doesn't allow attachd-files with .x extension). I used a conversion program from http://francis.dupont.free.fr/coindev/engl...t3d/convert.htm. I don't know anything about the .x format, and very little about .3ds, so you should try some experimenting yourself.warbird.txt Quote
Cheese Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) also, i might note that the .x format is in PLAIN TEXT, and if you click your link, you see its apparent gibberish. it even looks like all the converter did was slap an xof at the beginning of the file. and actually, i dled blender like a week or two ago, was kind of disappointed though, its a bit unwieldy and only renders pictures and not mesh files (?)however, it lets me change almost every color, which i prize in anything i use Edited April 6, 2009 by Cheese Quote

Drake7707 Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 using win32/directx, which continuum is written in.doesn't continuum use openGl ? You might want to try AC3D or Milkyshape 3D for conversion Quote
»doc flabby Posted April 6, 2009 Report Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) using win32/directx, which continuum is written in.doesn't continuum use openGl ?It does use directX but a very old version of it - doesn't use the 3D api instead it uses the ancient DirectDraw for displaying to the screen. Diwa Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) I was working on some models, or should I say model. I started with the Warbird. And Just as I was making some pretty good progress on it, my desktop goes and has a little bit of a hissy fit on me, and all progress has halted. I'm working on an OLD IBM thinkpad for the time being And I'm not sure that 3ds Max will like to be ran from it Silver lining time...? Possibly... Before all computer troubles, I did manage to render some previews and something that might be somewhat useful to the subspace community. Not in the way of an actual model for everybody to play around with though. This is an older preview I rendered. This is a preview I made that is a little more recent, slightly. Here comes the stuff that **might** be useful to somebody in the community A large version of the WB to be used in the game, it you want. The roll file to go along with it... Here is a Gold version of the WB, just for the hell of it. Eventually, I want to finish this model and release it to people that might have a project that is in need of it. But I'm afraid I might stop with the warbird. Talk about half-ass'ing it. I'm sorry if this post was just one big tease... but once I get my desktop up and working again, I'll finish, this model at least, asap. Edited April 11, 2009 by Diwa Quote
Cheese Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) http://cz.sshq.net/stuff/wbt.gif not to be a stickler for detail, but isnt the warbird wider? :S edit:also, make the front nose a little longer, and the engines smaller and more square.but whos counting edit2:just looked at full size imgs, holy shit.looks fantastic, still, see edit1 ^_^ edit3:in fact, best wb ive ever seen not made by vie Edited April 7, 2009 by Cheese Quote
Samapico Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Really nice textures... man that ship is rusty It got a couple of noob debris in its windshield haha Would be awesome to have the ships actually get damaged ingame like that, with some chips of wings being ripped off Good work As for the width of it, could it be just a perspective thing? It looks well-proportioned on that first render pic, viewed from the front Quote
Cheese Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 so after wasting 15 mins fixing my crappy modem, i can finally put this up this is grazzhoppa's text wb .x mesh, in a typical 3d environment.unfortunately, since it is in 1 subset, it can only be made from one material, which i have set to a blue diffuse lighting with a green specular highlight. hotkeys:up/down - zoomdel/pgdn - rot Xhome/end - rot YW - toggle wireframe/pixelL - move light been looking for a graphic artist for this kind of thing for a while now, glad im finally getting somewhere...anyone who wants their 3d ship added, put it up in plaintext .x format, and ill toss it in. also, since this is written in direct3d, i was forced to use a microsoft compiler, because theyre hoarding the libraries.i think it might only work on computers with a microsoft compiler installed, but i have no way of testing it.let me know if the exe doesnt work, so i can pistol whip bill gates.d3dwb.zip Quote
Cheese Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) also,MORE MESHES PLZ Edited April 7, 2009 by Cheese Quote
Drake7707 Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 woah nice texture on the warbird oO. The only thing that's looking a bit weird is the obvious texture mirror on the engines , both cracks are identical but mirrored Quote
Diwa Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 @Cheese: With the references I was using, the width doesn't seem to be so off. I'm guessing that it is, in fact, a perspective thing like Samapico said. I think that the reference you posted is an Orthographic render from the top. My version is Stouter and bulkier and fatter. As for making the engines smaller and more square, I kind of feel like it makes the proportions for the whole ship a little funny if the engines are smaller. I'm just making excuses for myself so I don't have to go and change the model and fix the textures. *If* I ever get around to modeling the other ships, hopefully they will be a little bit more accurate.
