I've been messing around in bryce with textures, I know I have a full version of bryce on another computer, I'll dig it up some later and maybe render the models with texture and upload them here. It wont be anything too special, so if someone with more talent then I could take the models and work on them, feel free.

Those are actually models I made and posted here.

MillenniumMan never posted the 3D meshes of his models - only pictures. Are his models available for download somewhere?

 

I've been monitoring this thread for a while, and only 2 people have shared 3D meshes of ships:

The lanc and warbird are worth checking out if you're interested. The terrier looks like crap and the weasel was never "finished"

 

They are all not ready to be used in a game, unless the game supports multi mesh models. They dont have any UV mapping. They dont have any textures. The polygons are not very "neat."

The .zip contains the 3Ds Max files for them. There will be a bunch of .max files because the .zip includes the progression of all the models...usually the file with the greatest # in it is the latest. Just check the date of the files to see which has the most update-to-date/complete model.

 

I'm handing these out cause I'm probably not going to work on them anymore and someone may like to mess around with them...

 

 

 

Still have my remade models, due to a HD crash, I lost most of my newer game code ;)

It'll be a while before I can get this project back up and running.

You can see some of the ships in my sig.

 

Well, its offical, I'm now confused.

 

Anyway, the models are amazing, and good job.

The ones I did were posted by Jab after I released the Alpha for Thirdspace. They should be earlier in the subject and in a couple of other posts.

If anyone can convert these to the direct3d .x meshes, I can put them into basically any windows program we can think up, using win32/directx, which continuum is written in.

I've been looking for meshes for weeks, and I just noticed this thread, as I never use these forums.

also, it doesnt need textures or colors, as long as the differently colored parts are in subsets (can be all-white)...

also, i might note that the .x format is in PLAIN TEXT, and if you click your link, you see its apparent gibberish.

 

it even looks like all the converter did was slap an xof at the beginning of the file.

 

 

and actually, i dled blender like a week or two ago, was kind of disappointed though, its a bit unwieldy and only renders pictures and not mesh files (?)

however, it lets me change almost every color, which i prize in anything i use :(

The converter has an option to output a text file or binary one.

I was working on some models, or should I say model. I started with the Warbird. And Just as I was making some pretty good progress on it, my desktop goes and has a little bit of a hissy fit on me, and all progress has halted. I'm working on an OLD IBM thinkpad for the time being :( And I'm not sure that 3ds Max will like to be ran from it smile.gif

Before all computer troubles, I did manage to render some previews and something that might be somewhat useful to the subspace community. Not in the way of an actual model for everybody to play around with though.

It got a couple of noob debris in its windshield haha

 

Would be awesome to have the ships actually get damaged ingame like that, with some chips of wings being ripped off blum.gif

As for the width of it, could it be just a perspective thing? It looks well-proportioned on that first render pic, viewed from the front

so after wasting 15 mins fixing my crappy modem, i can finally put this up

 

this is grazzhoppa's text wb .x mesh, in a typical 3d environment.

unfortunately, since it is in 1 subset, it can only be made from one material,

which i have set to a blue diffuse lighting with a green specular highlight.

 

hotkeys:

up/down - zoom

del/pgdn - rot X

home/end - rot Y

W - toggle wireframe/pixel

L - move light

 

 

been looking for a graphic artist for this kind of thing for a while now, glad im finally getting somewhere...

anyone who wants their 3d ship added, put it up in plaintext .x format, and ill toss it in.

 

also, since this is written in direct3d, i was forced to use a microsoft compiler, because theyre hoarding the libraries.

i think it might only work on computers with a microsoft compiler installed, but i have no way of testing it.

let me know if the exe doesnt work, so i can pistol whip bill gates.

@Cheese: With the references I was using, the width doesn't seem to be so off. I'm guessing that it is, in fact, a perspective thing like Samapico said. I think that the reference you posted is an Orthographic render from the top.

 

My version is Stouter and bulkier and fatter.

As for making the engines smaller and more square, I kind of feel like it makes the proportions for the whole ship a little funny if the engines are smaller.

 

 

I'm just making excuses for myself so I don't have to go and change the model and fix the textures. smile.gif

 

 

*If* I ever get around to modeling the other ships, hopefully they will be a little bit more accurate.
