ewjkbru Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 If the models could be .obj's instead of .max's I could take a stab at it. I have maya 7.0 at home. This is so cool I was modeling a Jav just last night before I found this thread! Quote
Sass Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Here's a wb I created from the anim vers. http://www.omega-fire.com/wb.png Quote
L.C. Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Oh how cool! I think the lighht on it is a little bit to bright, but that's just I! EDIT :: The light is a little too bright (it makes it look cartoony),The light is probably a white colored light with a few tints of yellow in it (it doesn't look like the original Subspace ships.bm2 has any yellow tinting in the light),And overall it looks just a bit cartoony (it isn't as realistic as the original ships.bm2). Just my thoughts. ^_^ Heh, maybe someone will have to make a roll script for 3DSM/Blender. Quote
ewjkbru Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Heh, so I made a this yesterday-->today with an in-game screenshot. No side reference so I kinda "winged it" before looking around and finding this site, which I'm happy I did . I know mine doesn't compare to http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/3821/javelinun0.png , but hey, why not? My mini tribute to the jav:http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/3938/frontmz5.jpghttp://img177.imageshack.us/img177/7706/persp2gm7.jpg p.s. what's the poly range on third spaces ships? just curious Quote

I have maya 7.0 at home.!can a $1600 modeling program open up .3ds files? The models as .3ds: http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?act=...ost&id=2134If it doesn't come natively, I bet there's a free plugin for maya that'll do it. .3ds file format is pretty common. Quote
Witchie NL Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 What is a good application to make 3D objects?Ima download/buy one. Quote
Samapico Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Blender is free, i think it works pretty good for more professionnal programs... 3D studio max, Maya... don't expect buying one of those though they're probably in the thousands $didn't touch 3d stuff for a couple of years though, im probably not uptodate Quote

Witchie NL Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 well i can download it and get a crack? Quote
Synook Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) It will take a while to download... Anyway, I think for modelling something like this a freeware program such as Blender would be fine...Also try Wings3D, which is more specifically for creating single models then Blender. »D1st0rt Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Smong also created a script to generate the different ship positions from a 3d model in Blender Quote
Samapico Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 including roll look at that... ice returns' work... not done... but niceand I didn't ask him to put that pic here... so he'll beat me up if he disagrees. Quote
Synook Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Not bad at all! Must have taken ice a long time to do... What format is it in? Quote
Witchie NL Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Thats going the right way.Would be nice to see a working 3d version of conti.(Even though this most likely isnt going to happen) Quote
Synook Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Yikes! That is a very far-fetched (or visionary depending on how you look at it ) idea... nice thought though... wonder if anyone with a lot of spare time would like to start trying... I remember someone bringing up this idea on DSB a while ago (can't recall who now)... I suggest that if someone starts developing a version that they try atmospheric-style physics for the ship flight, as this would retain some of the old style of 2D subspace (instead of going for a game with no sense of 'up'). Ever played a game called SpaceCowboy? A bit like that. One of the main problems in my opinion with creating a 3D version of SubSpace/Continuum would be the loss of the current high maneuverability of the ships in the current 2D game, as moving back towards the direction of the camera would be a problem (as you can't see what is behind you). Oh well... perhaps we are just dreaming... Quote
Witchie NL Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 There is a subspace 3D but it had problems with UDP sockets.Wasnt close to completion aswell. !@#$%^&* i forgot the name.. Quote
Samapico Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 this 3d thing discussion has happened at least 10 times in the past... Quote
L.C. Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 as moving back towards the direction of the camera would be a problem (as you can't see what is behind you).True, but to another degree you could use your mouse to rotate the third person camera around the ship and use the mouse buttons to shoot your guns and bombs (and possibly mines if you have enough buttons ). Even pointing the camera could smoothly rotate your ship around to adjust itself to be perfectly aligned with the camera while moving about. But eh, 3D is a whole new world. Quote
»D1st0rt Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 If it was 3-dimensional, it wouldn't be Subspace. Plain and simple. Quote
Samapico Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 but that doesn't mean it would suck Quote
Synook Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 (edited) this 3d thing discussion has happened at least 10 times in the past...Well, maybe someone should get a move on and start developing one lol However if you do I sincerely suggest you do not use the Continuum client as a base... Jab is the newest addition to the team. New ships are below, but this isn't all of them. Nightwasp is coming back. Quote
CRe Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 I found this on ss downloads. The zip file has every ship in 3 different angles.bigships.zip Quote
