Good model. Wish diwa could make textures (but not apply them dirol.gif

 

Could you upload the .blend file here so i can play with it?

IMO we could just make the ship models ourselves, but the conflict that arrises is that i want the ships to look like they were all made from one single source.. maybe Diwa can do textures to keep them looking like his. Maybe diwa can do touch ups too. :D

the way around that is to colaborate sucsessfully. People dont have time to do it all themselves but if a few are willing (and everything looks amazing so far) then if theyt share resoures and ideas the consistant feel will be achieved.

 

Keep up the great work guys, really excited about all of this!

Could you upload the .blend file here so i can play with it?

The models were made with Wings3D. I cannot export it to a .blend file, but I can export it to .3ds, .obj, and .x format.

 

Here is all 4 in a zip file. The .obj and .x use triangles. I tried the "Ultra" compression level for the zip file so let me know if you cannot unzip it.

 

Well, all attempts to texture the model by "unfolding" results in an "Internal Error: badarith" so I cannot texture the model right now. Every other method does not cover the surface properly.

To avoid extra work, I suggest making the texture very... coarse to begin with, and finalize the model, then tweak the texture for a final result.

No use in finalizing a texture if the model is not final, or you'll have to rework it anyway blum.gif

I could be wrong, though, I'm no pro at this :D

 

The lanc is nice, the wings could get some details, and I dunno about all these missiles things...

Since Continuum fires single bombs, infinitely, I'd go for some kind of thing where energy-based bombs could get out from, and only one gun if you want to be svs-compliant. These components should be similar on all the ships for consistency.

I know it's not a final model, just saying blum.gif

 

Other small accessories that could appear on the belly of ships would be... scanners, antennas, cameras, ... perhaps some kind of door to climb in the ship from the ground; unless you get in the cockpit directly like a fighter jet.

It's not worth doing these for a 32x32 ship, but for a high-res ship it would be nice

Nah, i've done some standard objects like teapot and standford bunny ( http://webs.hogent.be/dwight/glassteapot.png and http://webs.hogent.be/dwight/glassbunny.png )

 

Rendering the lancaster takes considerable more time :/ (I estimate 5-10 hours, because it's rendering on only 1 thread so i can other stuff). I definately need to look into kd-tree implementation to speed up ray intersection sigh

Yeah, I seriously need to redo the wing. As for texturing it, I can't because the program gives me errors when I try... some math errors...

 

As for the missiles, I was just playing with the software. It would be impossible to correctly position them because of the way continuum's settings work. I am not sure what else to do, the ship looks kindof bare without them. But yeah, I shall redo the wings.

Well, if you look at the rotation animation from VIE, the bottom isn't that flat. There seems to be some 'bumps' and stuff down there.

 

When I started texturing my Warbird, I wish I would have worked on the modeling more before getting to detailed with the textures. Now, if I want to go back and change some of the model (and I really want to), I'll have to pretty much redo ALL of the textures... :D

Hmm, is that an air intake underneath there? I could do that...

 

I redid the wings. they now look alot cooler. smile.gif There is also a laser at the end of the tube that appears on the wing. Right now its just a curve with a hole in the center, because I have no idea how a good looking laser gun would look like smile.gif

 

It looks a bit more aerodynamic when its flat, but could have some fins. Actually, an air intake would probably look pretty good. (not like theres any air in space. could be some rectangular radar system...?) For my first original 3D project, I love how this is turning out, and I am glad you guys like it thumbsup.gif

 

Sama what if you used this for your avatar? ;)

As far as textures go, I hope your going to make the engines look right, because to me, the wings, and the engine are the icon of the lanc. other than that, looks really good. (You do realize I am going to use these for the revamp project. blum.gif)

At least not on my first try.

 

Anyway, I made some somewhat minor changes. The middle area of the bottom is now slightly raised. I didn't want it to look like a block like the VIE images though. Also, I smoothed out the rectangular things sticking out in the front of the ship. What do you think those are anyway? :(

Hmm, may be a good idea. I might redo the engines using what I now know about Wings3D, but I'm not sure what I would do differently...

 

I don't really know about that. It might be a good place to put some lights on, and maybe a hatch for servicing =P But for the lights, you could put those on anyway, and the hatch might not look that great.

Looks almost like an atom with electrons connected with wires... I personally wouldn't use it.

 

Actually, I don't think there is a way to make any ball in space look good. I mean, come on. How do you play ball in space with spaceships? Seems kindof silly to me.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many polygons Diwa's Warbird model has compared to Ganons..

 

Also whenever Diwa releases the warbird model, i might do some animations of it fighting... would be cool.

Jabjab, those look cool, but like Gannon said, it is hard to make a ball in space, I think that the future "ball" should be something like floating matter, almost like dust, like large atoms, with dust following them, in a spherical motion, if that makes sense.

Y'know, maybe that stuff should go into another topic. I don't want this one to get too off topic. I know I might have started it when I posted some of my non-3D ship related stuff like the shield, but this thread has been going on for just under 3 years, and has stayed pretty much on topic. Let's keep the talk in here about 3D Subspace Ships.

 

Maybe a new topic for 'Subspace Graphics/Resources' or something along those lines...? Or, JabJabJab, you can post them in your Continuum Face lift topic.
