aquarius Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 ..wings are wonderful in space Quote
Samapico Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 1) You can attach weapons and various equipments to the wings. 2) Wings make it easier to anchor the ship when parked in a hangar bay. 3) You can attach stabilizers on the tips, which makes them more efficient due to simple lever principles, i.e. you can get more rotational momentum out of them. 4) They look f'ing cool. »jabjabjab Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) Makes them look cooler, and when u have to land into atomospheres from space, u need them. also helps extend guns to make better ranges of hitting a target. *did not realize the 8th page and see sam's response* Edited December 29, 2009 by jabjabjab Quote
Gannon8 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Yeah, we already had the wings discussion. Holy crap, Gannon8 is back!!!1!!11one! Gimme update on Lanc! I have pretty much ceased development on the Lancaster model. I might pick it up again, seeing as I have just checked out a recent book on blender from the library, but most of my time is being spent on garry's mod. I did make a zero-gravity continuum-like spaceship script that you guys might like however. The problem is that FRAPS lags my desktop too much for a movie. I need to try it on my new laptop. So yeah... Goodbye subspace. =/ I'll stop by the forums a couple of times now and then. PS. Only one page in... ~3 months? O_oPSS. Jab, may I pretty please have the complete model with the textures? Cheese Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) so again, heres a program to view the most current ship models, this time, expanded to view ships 1-8. (note: not 9) currently, only grazzhoppa has released a mesh, either in .3ds or .x format.therefore, only ships 1 2 5 6 7 exist.wb mesh replaces nonexisting meshes.you have to look carefully at parts, because the some parts are black on a black background.the reason for this is that the mesh subsets never had data for 'normals'. controls: 1-8 - choose ship modelup/down - zoomdel/pgdn - rot Xhome/end - rot YW - toggle wireframe/pixelL - move light source around --edit--only works on windows. note to model developers:worry about calculating normals BEFORE you start adding textures. LC, eventually youll get used to seeing the brown stuff on lynx's nose, as its the only reason anyone knows who lynx isshipmodels.zip Edited January 26, 2010 by Cheese Quote

Samapico Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 By the way... if any of you guys want to try designing some brand new ships, if you have some cool ideas or whatever, feel free to experiment. Discretion will certainly need some additional ships. It's not 3D, but it will probably use pre-rendered graphics, and it's much easier to get these from a 3D model, with rolls and all that.Pretty sure there is a topic on the Discretion forum about this , too lazy to check, but figured I'd say it here as well. PS: I speak of Discretion cause I got my hands a bit dirty in it already, but this probably goes to any future replacement client as well. The 8-ships limit is definitely something any new client will be trying to get rid of Quote

PsyOps Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) Well i have had this ship done a while ago. It was meant for an 8th ship in my Battle arena, along with custom settings, but i never got that far. Ive kept track of this thread for a while. I never really wanted to join in cause im really not that experienced with 3d design, not any major ones anyway.(3dmax,maya,blender,lightwave) The ship i made was using Ulead Cool 3d Production Studio. The app was mainly used to throw in 3d effects into a movie not really meant for 3d design, or at least i dot think so. Anyway i made this ship by just making a lot of parts and throwing them together. I think i have a warbird done somewhere and i started on a terrier. This ship uses the warbird engines/exhaust and terrier guns and underbelly-wing thingy. This would not be any good for any 3d type game as it has too many vertices or whatever they are called. Its too complicated. But as you know in ss the images are pre rendered and so it would be easy to use for ss. Oh and i sux at textures so its all fuxored up. I may pick up making more ships later,or maybe even remaking the ones that are left. The only reason i wanted the 3d images was so that i can do anything i want with them for ss art. spin' em, turn'em , size up/down. anyhow here it is. http://msguild.org/project_files/warberrier.gif oh and i also made some karts from marikart double dash and used them as ships for an event i wanted to create, but again its yet another project i did not finish.
