»jabjabjab Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Uhh that would bad, espcially for my project anyways, He's done this to us b4 alot so i guess wait :/ Quote
MillenniumMan Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Dude Diwa, seriously, I can't stop playing with your warbird. It's so addictive to look at, I die just watching it tiwst and turn. It's really this great. If it was not for that continuum-vista file bug where i cant access my screenshots, I'd post em. I even use the big version sometimes. It's just so awesome. Next generation warbird. Please promise me you will continue and make new ships. Install VirtualPC and run a copy of XP or Win98 in it. Better yet, ditch Vista altogether for it is garbage... Gotta say Diwa, more than impressed with your warbird. Infact, more than impressed *points a thors hammer at you* gimme the Warbird... NOW! I only made low-res versions for Thirdspace for the sake of processing power, but after seeing these models, I'm gonna say f*** the 250-300 mhz machines with 64mb of ram and a 16mb video card... They can get upgraded after all this time, it isn't 1998 anymore after all. Quote
MillenniumMan Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Ships have wings fully equipped and auto-controlled with ailerons and flaps to assist with the approach and departure from atmospheric planets such as ours, Hyphosus 4, Tiberia 19 and the third moon from Uranus. Once the artificial subsystems have fully automated their ability to navigate these conditions under hi stress or damaged extremities, the wings will be eliminated however the cockpits will be pushed forward of the fuselage and enlarged. The new ships suggested design is as shown in this illustration: Future Ship without Wings Sass, I bet that ship constantly goes to Uranus alot. bwhahahahaaa.... Quote
Diwa Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Okay, I know that the prospect of having some new Subspace eye candy is an exciting one after 14 years. And I wish that I was as excited about this stuff as some people around here, jabjabjab. But DAMN! From the start, I've said I don't even know if I'll finish the ships.  "Eventually, I want to finish this model and release it to people that might have a project that is in need of it. But I'm afraid I might stop with the Warbird." I'm not a professional 3d artist, I'm not a professional graphics designer, this is a HOBBY. Along with a handfull of other hobbies and real life, this one, honestly, is on the bottom rung. I wouldn't expect an update on the Warbird for a while. I'll get the damn Warbird finished. When...? on the 15th anniversary of subspace......... Caught me on a day where I feel particularly... asshole'y...  @MillenniumMan: I don't know the first thing about optimizing models for gaming (if there is a need for that sort of thing) and if I need to combine all the diff parts into one mesh, I'll have to re-map and texture the whole thing. We'll see. @Samapico: That's the second time that somebody has said that I must be dead in this thread. I know you were being facetious, so I'll let is slide I'm a long time believer in the ol' adage "Patience is a virtue."  .matt Quote
Samapico Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 I was indeed poking at Jab's impatience  I think he gets a boner whenever you post Quote
»jabjabjab Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) mmm.. maybe you are not, but you are really good, and I wish you could finish these ships, and so does the community. Right now, this is something we've needed for such a long time. If you can't finish these ships off, I dunno what to say other than it's your choice to make. Hell, If making ships like these are so easy, I might take on the task myself. The problem I have though is the fact that I cannot work 3DS Max on my PC which sucks, but i have blender. I just hope blender will have the same quality though. I did not mean to pressure you. Edited July 9, 2009 by jabjabjab Quote
Corey Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Diwa don't worry about when you finish, just worry about finishing, if that makes any sense? Take as long as you want. Heck, if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have such a kick ass warbird. Quote

»jabjabjab Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 (edited) I wonder if MillenniumMan can use my 3D flag for ThirdSpace... And my portal too Edited July 12, 2009 by jabjabjab Quote
»jabjabjab Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Honestly, I can't wait to see what the spider's gona look like. I mean Warbird is like the crown of subspace, but the spider seems like a rival to it. The good and the bad, and the ugly heheh. But no srsly Diwa I bet the spiders gona look better than the Warbird. Gannon8 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I made a Lancaster wing in Blender. Currently though, its just a block... I cannot make a slight curve that appears if you look directly behind the ship, nor can I smooth out all but the part where the wing attaches. (I could follow the dice tutorial for smoothing out the edges) I still have no idea how I would model the cabin though, with all of it's 3D-ness. I will have to look at more tutorials. Also, how do you make those textures? those look AWESOME and I would like to texture my lanc once I get done with it (if I ever do ) Quote

I wanna see  I made the textures in photoshop. They are for the V-Ray though. I don't know if you can get V-ray for blender though...? I was in the same boat when modeling my warbird. Read and follow tutorials. Texturing is a whole 'nother beast. I find it hard to get them to wrap around the model properly. I don't like doing it. It's hard for me to do. Well, not so much hard, but really tedious to do. And I don't like it Quote
Gannon8 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) Well, I tried the "Two Dice" Tutorial, but subsurfing the model makes it not look like a lanc wing anymore... Uhh, yeah, an extruded block attached. Edit: Maybe it would help if I pressed the "Attach This File" button Edit2: I just tried Wings3D and it is a _LOT_ easier. Almost done with the lanc Edited July 15, 2009 by Gannon8 Quote
»jabjabjab Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 IMO we could just make the ship models ourselves, but the conflict that arrises is that i want the ships to look like they were all made from one single source.. maybe Diwa can do textures to keep them looking like his. Maybe diwa can do touch ups too. Quote
Diwa Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 @Jab: That is pretty much what I, and a couple of people, have been saying about the Continuum Face-lift project. It's hard to get a consistent look/feel when materials are coming from multiple sources... In this case, I think it is a good thing though. More people can make custom ship-sets for upcoming zones if then need/want them. Plus, the community can't sit back and wait for one person to finish up something like this. Especially if you are waiting for me to finish the models I haven't even looked at the models in a couple weeks!     I made a Lancaster wing in Blender. Currently though, its just a block... I cannot make a slight curve that appears if you look directly behind the ship, nor can I smooth out all but the part where the wing attaches. (I could follow the dice tutorial for smoothing out the edges)I know what you mean about the slight curve to the wings of the Lancaster when looking at it from the back end. I've been thinking about that for a while. I don't know how I would go abouts doing it. Quote
Gannon8 Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) Ok, I assembled the fuselage, wings, and engines together. I hope to make the fins, fix some things, and smooth the whole thing out tomorrow. Enjoy. I know the engines do not look like what they do in the animated gifs and other photos, but I think these look cooler (and were easier to make). Really, who likes just plain prisms? Edit: Okay, that render looked pretty bad. Here's a screenshot. Edited July 16, 2009 by Gannon8 Quote
Diwa Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Nice progress, I don't know if Wings3D has anything similar to Smoothing Groups, but it will help keep parts of the fuselage from blending together into one blob when smoothing it. You can basically smooth sections separately from one another. Keep it up! Quote
»jabjabjab Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 LarryTheHamster seems good at doing gfx. I did sounds/into, and you (plus others) can do ships. simple. Quote
Gannon8 Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Thank you Diwa!I don't know if Wings3D has anything similar to Smoothing Groups, but it will help keep parts of the fuselage from blending together into one blob when smoothing it.It has a smooth command that subdivides the faces and alters them to make the model appear smoother. I just used it on the fuselage and it looks like it works. The lancaster looks like it has a shark fin on the top...  *Works on the model*O hey, I still haven't submitted this reply! Added a few missiles and lasers on the bottom of the ship. I think it's going very well for 1 and 1/12 days of work Quote
Gannon8 Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Sorry for double post, but here is my end-of-day results. I think this is the final version of the actual model. Now I am going to start texture it. Best of luck to me =) I would like to thank Diwa for the inspiration. I really like your work =)(let me make sure I actually attach the pictures this time) Quote
