★ 1587200 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I'm buying a 5 string bass but Elixr doesn't sell packs for 5 strings. So my question is, I'll probably get the Elixr mediums (45-65-85-105 guage) and was wondering which guage, .125 or .130 would be better for my 5th. Lights use a .100 guage, and mediums and heavys use the .105, so I'm !@#$%^&*uming the .130 would be best, but I doubt there's too much of a difference.

Altec Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Leave it to AG to answer yes to a multiple choice question...LOL Spyed>It wasn't me. Someone got my password and did it. OMGZ..
a dead fish Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I play... My Band I use GHS Boomers. Medium Light, Long Scale. Been using them for prolly 15 years now. IIRC, my B string is a .126 ... I would go with the .125 if that's your choice, I think the thicker string tends to mud up when played open (we do a lot of Floyd, so I use it alot). I was under the impression it was a D (not that I can't tune it to a D...) Anyway, thanks! I'm suprised that someone posted something constructive. Now, someone delete the pointless posts and close this thread plz? Thanx.
NBVegita Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I personally prefer the thicker string, mind you I don't often open it, so I feel I get a fuller sound from it. It also means the world how you tune it to the rest of your strings.
