protoman.exe Posted September 28, 2006 Author Report Posted September 28, 2006 Intellectual conversations without flaming? Fine. Reasons I would change to 500 whatever:1. Cheaper than rapidshare. Reasons I will stay with RS:1. Rapidshare is well known, has great download speeds, and offers three different places to upload my files.2. I already have a preimum account with RS.3. When I login to RS I don't see messages like, "Please support this site by buying a Fastp!@#$%^&*." If you're charging people $7.50/mo, then asking them to buy more stuff to support your site, then you should raise your price.4. 500 Whatever hasn't owned RS. Their script has already undergone updating, the site was down, and they've proved to me that they're not reliable, as demonstrated earlier when I tried to upload a vid and recieved a blank page. Now, why should I change when I've already paid RS for a preimum account? Also, RS has demonstrated reliability since I've been with them. I was with 500 for 2 mins before they lost my trust with their script, plus their download speeds (for me anyway) aren't nearly as fast as RS. Not to mention, when people download my stuff from RS I get points which can be used to redeem for a free month. Does 500 offer anything like that, 'cause I didn't see anything. 500upload has been up for a few days. I perhaps should have made the !@#$%^&*le of my topic to "Rapidshare will get owned". 500upload is made and maintained by 1 person. How many people does it take to maintain rapidshare? He saw that there was something wrong with the script and rewrote the whole thing in a day. Do you honestly think it takes a few days for something to become the best? And about the joining the website becoming a member. 2 days of rapidshare is like 3 euros isin't it?What is that "join premium" button right in the center of the rapidshare site? Iv used rapidshare tons of times. It's a nice site.
»1587200 Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 If he can rewrite the script in one day, then it's probably not robust enough to handle the amount of traffic and users that Rapidshare goes though every day, and the potential users and traffic he will have. And yeah, I'm sure RS is maintained by more than one person, which is why it works better. Your friend is going to need a team to help him out if he starts to get big. And I used RS for 3 weeks without my files being deleted for free, it's $9 to go premium, but they advertise themselves, not other companies. RS will not get owned. 500upload will be owned by the much larger, reliable, robust, better configured and better written script of Rapid Share. From what it sounds like, your friend bought a pretty new dedicated server from someone and wanted to start his own RS type site. Well, I'm pretty sure RS owns more than just dedicated servers, probably whole racks with terrabytes of hard drive space. I don't think you friend knows what he's getting into, but best of luck to him.
Samapico Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 the pic on the first post says that Premium account's files expire after 31 days... while free and free registered account's never expires... this is either very weird, or a mistake
protoman.exe Posted September 29, 2006 Author Report Posted September 29, 2006 That's how long it takes for the account to expire, not the files. Syrus. "Rome wasn’t built in a day"
»Maverick Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 I agree with Syrus, a site maintained by a single person can't ever outperform/outweigh a site which is used by millions every day. Indeed I don't think your friend knows what he is getting into. "Rome wasn't built in a day" Ofcourse not, but they also didn't advertise Rome the very first day and also didn't go to war with their opponents the very first day. Let's do a quick run through the websiteFatal error: Cannot redeclare invalid_copyright_334ksjde() in /home/afelhem3/public_html/plugins/cpr/cpr.php on line 0 hahaha nice You can upload now a maximum of 1000 MB. He should rename the site to 1000upload.com, it's totally wrong.Hmmm you can download a file by entering an id at a form. Let's bruteforce that to index all it's files $. LOL @ that error page, totally amatueur like. I very dislike the randomness use of fonts at the website. The menu is Times New Roman, while the rest is Arial (or Verdana) but in different sizes per page. Apart that it looks very ugly this doesn't give me a good impression or trust in the site.
»Swift Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Well stop putting personal porn on your RS and then try it
»1587200 Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Well stop putting personal porn on your RS and then try it What else is RS good for? I'll use 500upload for that I guess, then I can use my RS account for meaningful stuff, like warez and pictures of your mom I kid 'cause I love.
The Apache Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 I very dislike the randomness use of fonts at the website. candygirl Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 I think this is a funny link ---> http://www.500upload.com/index.php?p=contactus And why i think its funny is this -->Our Customer Support team is available to all members and is available from 2am - 10pm every day through emails Isn't there only one guy running this thing? so whats with this Support team?
»Swift Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Think of it this way candygirl. TWSites.Com is maintained by one person (DoCk>) and overall was a huge success for his server and his hosting. I being one of the bigger buyers to it since I was help keeping it up with out of pocket money of course. He does however have people he selects to answer any trouble tickets to help him out, for free. Maybe he is going to do the same thing. Maybe not. I'm just tossing a different perspective on it.
The Apache Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 ok, the maxinum file upload changed? it's now 1250mb. EDIT: How the !@#$%^&* do you cancel an upload (using flash) without having to close the browser window?!?!
protoman.exe Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 My pal says.. That he wants to see some of the reASSS in this thread to go make their own upload site with 3 servers before they start !@#$%^&*ing.
»Maverick Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I don't even think of it because I know it's quite impossible unless you got a organisation backing you up with time, services, servers and money. (and I'm not even thinking of making money of it since that is even harder)
»1587200 Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 This thread is pointless now, someone close it.
»SD>Big Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 i'm only closing threads if goes into super flame mode or an extreme reason... this thread is just basic conversation, which is healthy for the boards. post away!
»1587200 Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 That he wants to see some of the reASSS in this thread to go make their own upload site with 3 servers before they start !@#$%^&*ing.So I go to layeredtech and purchase three dedicated servers w/ a private switch, then contact cypherjf to write a script for me, and badda bing, i've got a newbie rapidshare.
»Maverick Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 indeed Syrusbut you forget you have to post on a few forums saying "rapidshare is getting owned".
»1587200 Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 but you forget you have to post on a few forums saying "rapidshare is getting owned".True true...I'll call it RapiderShare, and rule the world with my poorly written script and servers! RAWR!Go do it now then.Na, I believe in quality, and I know I wouldn't do a quality job as I don't have all the tools nessary to run something that would rival RapidShare, which is why I don't do it.
