Leviathan Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Hi, I have two suggestions. The first, allow people to make money through something like the powerball (this was fun in previous versions) and/or separate arenas. I believe in the old HS there were other arenas that had different settings, why not have other arenas where you can win money like a trivia game or powerball only zone etc... Now for the items. I suggest two new ones and they are as follows: 1) Spec Shield No one in spec (except for staff) can see you. Basicly, it's as if you are cloaked. Spectators cannot see you or follow you. While speccing people with flags can be useful the feature is unfair as there is no defence against it and it always means that anyone with a lesser powered ship will be destroyed within seconds of getting the flags. There's no compe!@#$%^&*ion or hunter-killer fun. 2) Perma-Portal Ability to set a portal in one location permanently. This would have obvious drawbacks (people could do it in flag rooms and such) and so probably isn't a good idea at this time but I thought it was worth mentioning. One other note, to those who have already spoken to me in game (Deathboy, Dan Man, some others..) I'm not actually an !@#$%^&* but it's really annoying when you're practically new to a zone and get ignored when you ask for simple help. I played HS long ago under other names but not for very long so I do know how things work and what the community can be like, I'm still surprised there's not enough help for newbies to get started. A relatively skilled player can build up their little warbird quite well in a few hours of game time but they can't get beyond that without basing or hand outs... so the problem begins there (see money suggestion above, or add a basing bot to make sure teams are fairly newbish/vettish.. or a newbie arena that does not allow anyone with over 50k to play) Quote
Dr Brain Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Yes, there used to be other arenas, and I hope that there will be again someday. That, however requires work on my part, and I have virtually no time. About all I can do now is check the forum twice a day. Spec shield is possible from a technical standpoint (removing xradar and having people use cloak might even work), but I'm not sure that there's an actual need (though I'm not unsure either). Permaportal wouldn't really be a good idea. Quote
Leviathan Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 I agree about Permaportal although it would be interesting the cons out weigh the pros. Regarding the work on your part... How would someone go about helping you code, what would they need? I'm employed as a programmer, although it is a bespoke language (strange mix of VBS style with some JAVA syntax) and have VS.NET 2005 from work so depending on the language you use I might be able to help. Oh and I have experience with MSSQL Server 2005 and SQL in general.. ASP and website development too but I doubt that'll be useful to you. Quote
