Hall of Tricks, and suggestions to Hyperspace

Here are some simple observations and suggestions that I think could improve this zone signifigantly.

Anti-death respawn with all utilities. You essentially have an invisible ship until your ship location updates on the other clients which lets you brick, rep a half dozen times, and scoot right by defenders. Bak has turned this into a veritable art. Respawn without utilities would be a suitable nerf, a lot of people I have discussed this with agree.

Flagging or 'basing' as some call it is really turning into a game of compe!@#$%^&*ive Tetris more than anything. Set brick, wait for your enemy brick to disappear, repel, put another brick 5 tiles in. GOTO 10. Anti-death makes you a thousand times more effective at this. Maybe something can be done to turn this into an actual battle rather than a house building contest?

Wallbombing. Cheap, easy kills with no skill. Annoying as !@#$%^&*. A perimeter around the bases outer wall is an easy way to fix this. You obviously can't remove every "trick" people can use to get easy kills, but this is fish in a proverbial barrel.

Transwarp flag camping. The basic premise is this: if you have a tw p!@#$%^&* you can take the flags to the TW hub and you can essentially win without any resistance what so ever. If you drop in the TW hub they'll go outside the hub for a short period before the game wins (I was able to !@#$%^&* the flags quickly, once, when somebody dropped in the TW hub) but you can't shoot them to cause them to disgorge their flags. If you see anybody outside the TW hub waiting to get the flags, you just jump through one of the ways to another base before your flag timer expirers. Yes, you could be waiting at the other bases and have a TW P!@#$%^&* yourself but they're so expensive that solution is intractable.

This "my way or the highway" at!@#$%^&*ude is just childish. Like the kid who is going to take his ball and go home. Yes, it's your zone and you make the ultimate decision but without other players you'd just be flying around in a circle by yourself, and what fun would that be? I think this is probably one of the more innovative zone designs in some time, even though the idea has been around for a while. There is a big disparity between "haves" and "have nots" which raises the bar of admission a bit; probably why the zone seems to be capped at about 30 users. The admins of the other large, successful zones knew it was about the players, not their egos. The programming for this zone isn't rocket science. Somebody could easily create a zone with a similar premise, almost identical design, balance it a bit better, make the barrier to entry a bit lower for new players, ditch the silly rules and juvenile mods.

Good for him, this is the way it has been for 3 years and I think you're the first person to bring up a formal complaint.

I do agree with you in that I don't really like how flagging has developed over time, but bricks are such a fundamentally useful basing item that if we make it available, everyone will have one. Plus with higher levels of flanking than ever, bricks keep you from being constantly caught in crossfire.

Repels. Cheap, easy fix with no skill. Either that or you should thank them for not making you have to reship for another set of thors.

im pretty sure you can still thor them from outside the hub in sector 8 unless the anti thor tiles are there. If they are, they should be taken out.

I'm not going to get into an ideological discussion today.

Yes there are anti thor tiles there. But you ARE able to shoot while in the hub

Antideath whine - Ignored.

I totally agree with the bricks though. Too many of them, and too many of reps also. Concealed antideath whine in this paragraph - Ignored.

Wallbombing whine - Totally ignored. Stay away from the walls idiot.

You can't shoot thors from sector 8 to the traswarp hub.

However, you can shoot bullets in there. Just go sit between the green tiles and rotate 45 degrees. With bounce + multi you can cover the whole tw with bullets and when the random guy with flags appears, he will get hit.

Just have a friend or portal hanging around outside the hub, problem solved.

Sidenote: If the guy is pretty much in the center of the hub when getting hit by bullets, the flags will eat couple of the safety tiles, which'll create very efficient turreting space.

Last whine - Something about kids, balls and decicions. Sounded too perverted, i had to ignore that too.

If it's the perfect zone for myself, it'd be pretty good, eh?

Blah blah blah. Not worth a reply.

I've yet to see anyone do anything like what we've done. Yes, someone could, but I don't think you realize just how difficult it is.

I have taken suggestions from players on many occasions. If I don't think it's a good idea, however, no amount of player requests will change my mind. It's my judgement that has made the zone worth arguing over, so I hope you'll trust my judgement to take it the rest of the way.

Tricks:

Warbird: Don't fight levis, javs, lancs... Vulch them, they are an easy kill because they are slow but at full health you'll have a !@#$%^&* of a time taking one down (I use pulse laser).

When Vulching: Don't shoot at the weaker person, shoot at the one that's winning, they likely won't repel as they are too greedy trying to take a kill, shooting at the weaker person will most likely just result in them repeling and you not getting a kill at all.

Outlast bigger ships, their recharge tend to be a little on the slow side, while yours (especially with tokamak) is alot higher, it's not about who shoots the most, it's who can shoot the most and score hits, circle them and make them waste all their energy while shooting at them a little until you drive them into energy suicide.

What makes you think players matter? If people like what there is they will play and if they don't they won't. Why would anyone care if more people play or not?

I'd like to see someone make a system as flexible as this one. Just so that if they thought it was easy I could say "I told you so."

So true, he still won't nerf that blasted shredder.

Take a look at this, this is taken at 3:30 pm eastern.

No, the server did not just crash. At peak times, hyperspace achieves a population of 20 players, while 10 of them are in spec.

Without players, the zone doesnt exist. I think Brain cares if more people play or not.

Lets wait until more ASSS zones like project x come out.

Blah blah, I keep hearing talk about how great this "Project X" but it means nothing until the public sees it. Even so, I'm sure if it's actually any good, I'm sure whoever is developing could tell you that it's not easy nor simple.

Way to warp the entire point of my topic. I didnt say project x was great, i said Wait until more ASSS zones SUCH AS project X come out.

It was implied that compared to them, the HS buy system would be cake

If proj X ever comes out, it still won't be better.

As for the lack of players, I have almost 0 free time these days, and I've been using it for other things like eating and sleeping rather than programming for SubSpace. Hope you guys will understand.

understandable.. however most HS players feel neglected. HS is like a dictatorship, as someone else mentioned "My way or the highway."

As for the first sentence, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Pong is the best game ever.
