Why don't you clearly define what you consider to be a "swear word?" I am unable to read your mind nor !@#$%^&*ertain what your outmoded values might consider "obscene." If you don't want us to use a word, then we need to know what they are. Is some mod who's having a pissy day going to decide that "the" is a swear and deduct $2000 from me like he did last night?

I actually agree, to an extent. There need to be some general guidelines. When I was enforcing the rule, I went by what is and isn't allowed on television, ergo "!@#$%^&*" and "!@#$%^&*". The main problem is that different mods enforce different things. I've had other mod(s) tell players that "!@#$%^&*" isn't a curse word behind my back. Personally, I'm extremely liberal on language, but saying that "!@#$%^&*" isn't a profanity? Come on.

While I do think the players should know where the general boundary is out of common sense, if they directly ask for it, then they should be provided with a better idea of what to avoid.

Up to this point, from what I'm going off of, if you wouldn't say it infront of your own child or polite company, than their is no need for it. I'm not so big on the whole "!@#$%^&*" and "!@#$%^&*" words, atleast not anymore, but its common sense if you start using "!@#$%^&*" numerous times, your going to suffer some sort of concequense, and every mod knows if they were to have a pissy day, and started using "the" as a reason to deduct someone's money, silence someone, or something else, they, themselves would have to suffer a different concequence, I'm pretty sure we have no mods that would do something like that.

Everyone these days has a habit of saying !@#$%^&* and !@#$%^&* if they're over a certain agegroup. It's really hard not to express ourselves through swear words, especially if we do it in almost every other zone. I can understand something like racism being disallowed, but swearing is just too harsh.

In real life, yes. But online, I disagree. I'm prone to spurting out the word "!@#$%^&*!" among others on a near-constant basis in real life if I trip, hit myself, forget something, etc. but on a computer game, where you have to type it up, it takes only the slightest self control to avoid doing. As far as I know, acronyms are still acceptable. Using some such as "WTF" are pretty much a fact of life on the internet, if that's what you meant by self expression.

The acronyms are used because they depict a phrase or sentence. What the !@#$%^&*? in itself is a question. If my ship got killed, I wouldn't be questioning it, because I have been beaten fair and square. Words like crap and !@#$%^&* don't express the same way as '!@#$%^&*' to me. I don't think there are many children on this game anyway, and as the poster above me said, free speech ftw.

Diff, Dr Brain has requested that this rule be kept. Were only here to enforce it. Honestly, if it were my zone, I'd allow it, but its not, and since its not mine, yours or anyone elses but his. We have to follow his rules. It's pretty simple not to type swear words btw. Have some self-control over yourself.

Just like DBE, it's not the principles I care about. In fact, I detest censorship in real life. I agree with the children thing, but even if there are many kids, seeing and knowing curse words will just desensitize them to it, which I think is good in the long run. Of course, this is ultimately for their parents to decide, but I digress.

Case in point, it's the mods' jobs to enforce the rule set by the owner, regardless of their own morality. I personally would prefer the rule abolished, but I don't find it to be that intrusive. Brain isn't the kind of person to change his mind, so as players, if anyone find the rule itself to be unreasonable, all they can do is play in a different zone. The issue of how the rule is enforced is a different story though.

Alright I understand what everyone is trying to say. I know some people in real life who absolutely can't stand swearing, and some people on this game are like that too.

A player named Gene would never swear or cuss himself, but he doesn't mind others doing it. People have their beliefs and rules, and I guess I have no choice but to follow them.

Swearing brings no benefit to anything, but it's just a habit of some people

in DS we have a formula that seems to work.

We allow swearing (will warn if its over the top though) as much of it is harmless and hard to enforce.

We so not allow any form of racism though which seems to be enforceable quite easily.

Meh, I hear the word !@#$%^&* and !@#$%^&* all the time on tv, I wonder ... should we follow suit like TV as brought up already?

Why have rules if people are going to break them easily? Set up a revenue raiser a'la Speed Cameras? Enticing, you know you want to go faster, but you know theres a catch to it, bound to be a sneaky cameraman somewhere! Seriously, the easiest way to fix your swearing problem is also to follow television: filter! Duh, whats a filter? Beep beep! Wow, he said something bad, i didn't actually hear it but I knew he said it!

Or maybe we can just take money off them because we know they're going to slip up some time, more e-cash taken off the poor and the rich to make them poorer

its called free speech

K you have fun with that. Gonna see how far that gets you. I think maybe you should start abusing policemen and stuff like that. But its called free speech! freeeee speeeech! Ever heard of slander.. or libel? Anyone? !@#$%^&*llooooo??

There is no such thing.

Yeah god forbid you actually make a change to the zone that the players want.

That's the difference between a good zone and a lack luster zone. The good zones are there for the players. The lack luster zones are there so stupid smods have people to boss around.
