Fruity Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Ok, as you all know the whole zone is dead from around 1am - 6 pm Est, back before the zone went dead we used to have pop certainly from 10am - 6pm when the peakers came on, i propose that we try and bring back the daytime pop so we can play the smaller events and practice the larger ones. The pop was mainly british and you all seemed to have gone into hiding so what would it take for you guys to come on between 10am and 6pm est 4pm and 10pm gmt? Quote
Emblazon Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 heres how it goes: right now, the highest population 17th gets is during the hours between 5pm est and 2am est. For Euros, thats 10pm-5am or so, and so they dont get to partake in the main events the zone has. the problem with the european population in 17th is that there isnt much of one. the few that play think its unfair that our events are based on eastern time, but you fail to see that our main population is northamerican. back in the day, it was probably about 1/3 euro and 2/3 american. but now, the euros tend to play dsb and other large zones. if you want events and leagues to be scheduled so that euros can participate without staying up til their late hours, then you need to start bring them online. if i see the population on the charts go up during the daytime hours in my timezone, then we can help you out. we can put some euro hosts and start hosting events earlier to accomodate the euro population. but if theres no pop, i cant scheduel events for the few that show up. if there were so many in the past, bring them back and we can help u. id like to see the zone have a more balanced population, but its not happening right now. i can't do anything about that, only you that live in gmt can do that. and when u do, there WILL be events and such for you. u help me, ill help u. Jayfortyfive Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 This topic has been discussed at length before, but the point remains the same. The key to any zone is people playing public to begin with. The reason is that public begins a chain effect in several different ways. When you get 5v5 or mroe playing, normally that means there is about 18-20+ in the zone, which creates an interest for any one who likes to play 17th, but plays other zones because of population issues, to come and join. Once the chain affect from the initial public interest starts and you get more and more people into the zone and playing and chatting in a general forum (public 0), you can have several soccer games and then decide to play events. This is crucial. Public means a lot, but it is not everything. There is a delicate balance between public and events that keeps good zones alive, normally with enough population, you can keep both crowds happy at once by providing the services of a public game and event at the same time. Unfortunately for us, this is not an option until we find more steady population. Therefore, the delicate balance should mean we play several games of pub whenever possible, and when we get public going, we will host events requested or picked carefully by staff in order to keep the interest of the players, and provide a more successful zone. Good poll, just everyone has been there, seen that. Quote
ntfx Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 More staff = More players. Sure, if you give me sysop, I'll play pub Quote
Incomplete Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 If you recruit more staff then staff becomes the population. That's what happened not too long ago. Fun = more players But even then the players have their own opinions on what is fun and what isn't. Are you leaving anytime soon Mike? Quote
Fruity Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 Another way to get back the daytime pop is tell the players who went to DSB ect that 17th is back up and running again, ive spoke to a few that would definatly come back and play during the daytime if thier was people playing Quote
Trip' Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Indeed, all these ideas are awesome. The main problem is getting a pub started with 5v5 or more as Jay said. Thats the simple solution to get things running again in the daytime. I would play during the daytime if i didnt have to work or had school, but hay thats life, and im glad i have one. Just get some euros playin during their primetime hours, and just have them spread the word about the game to friends and such. Quote
Fruity Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 In the process of doing that, today for the first time in ages we had pop at 5pm GMT! Quote

NBVegita Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 You don't want to overload on staff. Statistically, a player plays less if they are a staff member than if they are not. They might be online more, but they do not play. And if you get overloaded with staff, they run out of things to do, then they get bored, then they get lazy, and then you have a zone full of bored lazy spec sitting staffers. Not a good choice imo. Emblazon Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 more staff = more criticism luco and lisa already makes fun of the amount of staff we have considering our population. not that lisa matters in any way, but luco still plays, sorta. but i dont agree with mike, and i dont disagree with mike. we do plan to hire a few more ERs for the euro crowd that im hoping starts comin in during the EST daytime hours, but theres no plan to hire 8934985189 new staff members. we have me and cord as sysop (nurples and mike also, but they dont count), sama and larry for smod, and naht & tiq & cubs for mod. all experienced, former staff members. staff is quite balanced out, imo, except that larry is the only one active during gmt peak hours. thatll change. and right now, if youve noticed, the current ers we have, greased and driverx, are doing very well for being the only 2 active ers. they host every day it seems. theyve only really affected pub once or twice, otherwise, theyve been pretty much keeping interest in the zone through the evening. applause. i forget what my point was.. and i dont have time to read thru this, gotta go back to work -_- Quote
Fruity Posted August 9, 2006 Author Report Posted August 9, 2006 Well 11 of you voted youd play more if other people did, now you have no excuse as we have a decent game on now and have hads for around 2 hours so in you get Quote
