Guest Guest Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 I recently bought a new computer and should mention that Continuum works fine on my old computer even with McAfee firewall on. On this one, what happens is the client opens and only SSCB RedStar, SSCE Hockey Zone, and SSCI-A Pirates! show players and ping times - every other server shows green with 0 ping and 0 players and cannot connect. When I try to download a new zone list, it says "Unable to retrieve new zone listing. Make sure you are using one or more valid direct or server addresses. Also, make sure you are currently connected to the internet." I have tried turning the firewall off - doesnt work - I have tried turning it on and opening port 4990, doesnt work. The server address list I'm using is:sscentral.subspace.inet.fi sscentral.sscuservers.net sscentral.subspacehq.com sscentral.subspace.net sscentral.subspacedownloads Can anyone help me with this?
Wonderer Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 remove all of the directory servers but sscentral.sscuservers.net If the problem continues then download the latest installer from SSDL.
Guest Guest Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 remove all of the directory servers but sscentral.sscuservers.net If the problem continues then download the latest installer from SSDL. Tried using just that directory, did not work. Went and downloaded the latest from SSDL - now, none of the zones show players but all show green/0 ping and still get same message when I try to refresh zone list
Guest Guest Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Can you ping 64.84.96.94? Yes - when I do the ping command at the command prompt it comes back with 0% loss. By the way, I just completely wiped windows and reinstalled it (so no firewall even on here, yet) and am still having the same problem.
Guest Guest Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Can you ping the directory server? Yep - it pings it just fine as well. As for the other reply, what do you mean by "DNS problem?"?
Wonderer Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Delete the Continuum directory and reinstall it with the new installer. It has an updated zone list as of yesterday.
Bargeld Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Some DNS servers don't properly route to certain IP addresses. If you are using a router/gateway, use DHCP to dish out the IP addresses and DNS servers to your computer (set your network TCP/IP settings to "automatic". That's probably not the prob tho, seeing as how you can ping it... my bad. I think it's firewall related, because ping uses a different port and application to hit the directory server vs. continuum. You probably need to disable your firewall or confire it to allow continuum unlimited access to the internet. It probably worked on your old computer because a warning popped up the first time and you allowed it access... after that it never asked again, nor caused probs.
Guest Guest Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Wonderer - I did that earlier today actually, and had the same result as I am having now. I went into the TCP/IP settings and its on automatic. As for firewalls - I wiped windows, so my firewall isnt on and I turned window's firewall off. I know it did ask earlier before I wiped if Continuum could have access, and I clicked the yes button though. Thanks for your help by the way - hopefully I can figure out whats up...
