Odd thing is, the audio works at initializatoin (the thunderclap) and on the main screen (where you choose zones), but not in any zones (even those with custom audio like MetalGear CTF).

I'm temporarily using this ancient 'puter, a Dell Optiplex GXa. It has a Crystal Audio soundchip and, unfortunately, there do not appear to be any drivers for that are more recent than the ones included with Win2000 (believe me, I've looked).

My only other game that I have that will run on a system this slow, my old Master of Orion II, has sound that works.

DXDIAG reports audio buffering doesn't work, but all the tests work. I tried turning off audio acceleration, but it had no effect.

Re-install DX.. cuz it's definately ponting in that direction. There is a stand alone installer which will re-install, in case you have a problem with it refusing to update cuz you have the most recent version already.

Hi there -

I have been playing SS for years on this same computer, for the past year on XP.

I formatted my PC last night, and upon installing SS - I had almost the exact same problem as Mare.

I will get the thunderclap, then on the splash screen, when clicking on zones and ships i get the little beep, however...In game, NO sound at all!

I have tried all the different sound quality settings, I have updated to the latest direct x version, I have done all windows updates...nothing.

My computer is old, and as such there are no updatable drivers for my sound card. However, sound IS working in windows.

Please help!!!

Thanks!

Edit to add - I just did the direct x diagnostics, and there were no problems found...sound test passed, i also tried turning off hardware accelleration, still no sound at all in game.

Are you sure you have a /sounds folder in your continuum folder?

This sounds like a silly question but there are corrupt installers around that don't install the /sounds folder at all. (.39pr1)

EDIT: Sorry Bargeld blum.gif

I think they install it into a "sounds" directory, instead of "sound"...check the spelling.

Also, make sure you have 3d sound turned OFF.

What sound card is it too? We might be able to find something.

I am in the same boat. I had a lag problem so I reinstalled and now have no game sounds. I turned 3d sounds off but still have no sound :( sigh. I checked the sound folder but it has nothing in it! My problem is how to I get the sounds into my sound folder since it has nothing in it?

I had the same issue so I reran the installer hopin' that would help.

I watched it closely to see if there are sounds being installed and sure enough there were. Only problem is it installs them into the windows/system32 folder. Check there for them.

All of you who posted in this, do you have a sounds folder in your Continuum folder? If not, then this is an installer bug and I gotta get on his !@#$%^&*.
