»SOS Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 How should spamming in chats be handled according to the SSC netban policy? Same as any cross-zone spam? Ignored since chats have no "owner"? Or something else?
»Maverick Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 I believe the netops (net)ban people for cross-zone spamming where cross-zone spamming can also be done via chats. I seen people get netbanned for this reason on several occasions.
Dav Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 prehaps the biller needs an upgrage to allow chats to be owned/moderated what is the offitial line on this issue? we have had problems with this in the past at DS and would like to know the best way to stop it and keep the chat usefull rather then have it spoiled by idiots.
PoLiX Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Well, they never allowed Net-banning before. It was more of a "Make the Chat Local Only" type of thing. Honestly, I found a simple ?ignore works. But if they continue on multiple names, i'd treat it as cross-zone spamming.
Wonderer Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 We can netban for it if its a real problem. But that really only applies to zone chats. Staff and squads can always just change the chat.
Yupa Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Just threaten to fire that little re!@#$%^&*. I bet he'll buckle.

I guess I should probably explain my posistion on this to be clear. Netbanning for cross-zone spamming is only to be done in the most severe of situations. This rule can apply to a chat channel but there are some restrictions on that. 1) You may not network ban someone for cross-zone spamming any chat that could be made local with no problems or a chat that could easily be changed (Staff, Squad chats, etc). 2) The spamming must be extremely excissive. Using one alias to spam your chat does not qualify for a network ban. Using multiple aliases to continually avoid ?ignore while spamming your chat does qualify. Also for it to be considered extremely excessive the spam must last for a considerable duration and be quite rapid. 3) If the ban is ever disputed because of the questionable nature of this type of network ban I need to have a log of the event which if the ban was warranted should be easy to get.
