H4Rk3R Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 ok... so ive been playing SS for about a month... and no problems with packet loss or any of that good lag stuff... and now... all of a sudden... i get the bots banning me for packet loss... anywhere from 6.5 up to 8.0 is what they are saying i have... i have a good connection... cable... and ya... i dont understand... anyone have any idea how i can lower it so i can play more than 2 minutes before getting a 3 minute ban?
»SOS Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Do you have some downloads going on while playing? They can cause packetloss. Otherwise, just wait it out. It might take a few weeks or more but it should fix itself if it is just a random internet problem. You can also do a trace to a zone (let it go at least 100-200 cycles) and paste the results here - maybe that will give some info about the cause.
BDwinsAlt Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Check and see what processes are running. Things such as limewire and GayOL software will slow you down. You could have a trojan. I had packetloss of 4.5 when I had this nasty trojan once. It disabled the task manager So I downloaded an alternitive, ended the processes, deleted all the files (include the ones protecting it) My packetloss returned back to normal. The reason I mention AOL software is because AOL (GAYOL) sucks. I saw a process called AOLSoftware.exe in my task manager and I closed it. No need for it. Check you process list, run anti-virus scans. (I would recommend using AntiVir [http://free-av.com] or an online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com). Good luck.
