Alright, first of all, I read a few of the locked threads, and read some of the suggestions. Among them, the only sane ones are to "Run as..." which requires I keep the "Protect my computer" check box checked in order to actually run, but disallows the game to even download zone files, and the install 38pr3 suggestion, which is also sort of irrelevent since one of the stickies up top clearly state no zones run it. So, in otherwords, I can have my cake, but its very dry and I don't have anything to chase it.

 

Are there any other suggestions other than UNINSTALL the very tools that keep me from having to reformat every 2 weeks? Is the 39pr3 info wrong now? Could I play trench with it? Could someone at the very least host up to date copies of the zone files for the major zones (TW, powerball etc) or if someone already is, could I be directed to that site?

I downloaded 39pr3 just for grins, and it also doesn't load. It does the same task manager jumping as the other versions.

I've owned a computer for over 12 years now, and I have never used a real-time anti-virus/anti-spyware tool. My personal opinion is that they are unnecessary for people who know how to use their computers properly. The basic guidelines entail the following:

 

Don't go to porn sites.

Don't run anything from an untrusted source.

You get what you pay for, meaning that if it is free, there is probably a price you will pay in another way.

 

Your computer is a tool, treat it properly and don't load it up with useless or unnecessary crap and it will last you for a long time. Real-time popup blockers/anti-spyware and the rest are not needed if you are just smart with what you do. Un-install your 'protection' and follow the above guidelines and you shouldn't have any probs.

On a side note, do these 'protection tools' of yours include some sort of control panels? Configureable mechanisms by which you may authorize access to the game program or exclude it from the monitoring?

problem often is that people who know how to use a computer have a little sister or little brother who doesnt really knows how to... so they get crap anyway from these gay free games websites

Windows is gay...but *nix community are stupid and don't work hard to become more games-friendly.

 

(is it too much to ask for a software that emulates/replaces DirectX 100% and an appropriate SDK so that devs may create games for *nix instead of win and we can all get rid of this crappy OS and move on to *nix?)

On a side note, I run processguard and ZoneAlarm, I have no problem telling it to allow a game to run.

I have no clue what kind of crappy "protection" program this dude is running that has only one button/check box for either protect or not and if it's protected he can't play any games??? Weird !@#$%^&*...

IMHO, he has very little clue in how to use it and/or their computer.

Windows is 'crappy' only because 90% people are using it, therefore, if you are someone who develops crap program to spam everyone or viruses, you develop them for windows, and search for security breaches in windows... if 90% of the people were using *nix, trust me, it would be full of crap as well.
