Aileron Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 We haven't had a working 17th Parallel Bar topic in a while. So, signup your character here so that I can see how many people are interested. Here is the revised (and much shorter version of the rules) Thread posting Rules:1. No post containing the actions of any other member2. No destroying the bar3. No character superpowers (I'll decide what is and is not a superpower)3 1/2. Character choices are as follows: Human, Cyborg, Genetically Modified Human, Android, Genetic Creation, or Living Machine.3 3/4. Don't be a dumb!@#$%^&* with your character choice.4. If the previous post has broken any of the rules, ignore its entire contents. Rule 3 1/2 has been added due to a lot of abuse by almost everyone, myself included. Additionally, penalties will be applied the farther to the right you are on that list. For example, an Android might not be programmed for social interaction, might break down in certain environments humans can tolerate, or might be vulnerable to certain weapons. As for plot, I think I'll use the same basic plot as the dismall failure of IV. However, this time I won't have an actual character myself, but rather controll the scores of NPCs that come, go, or get blasted into oblivian. I will also spontaneously add problems for PCs to face, and party members to help them out. In short, I guess I'll DM this one. There will also be a point system added, which I will keep track of. Generally you earn points by being a 1337 roleplayer. The problem is that the only way to keep track is to have me judge, which adds a lot of bias. So, points will in no way affect your character's interaction with the roleplaying universe. Maybe, if this thread is popular enough, I can persuade the staff to prize people super or bounce in game for having a lot of points here, but I doubt it. Attached to this post is optional reading describing the history of the 17th Parallel Bar and the universe its in as well as details of the proposed point system. Note the word optional...the points mean nothing as of yet and even in the real world you can survive despite flunking history. Quote
Manus Celer Dei Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 I'll partake. Probably with the same character as I played in all the others. Quote
Synister Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Seems like a fair idea. Ill participate, let me first think about my character. Quote
SeVeR Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Name: Kulrick The WetAge: 206 Earth YearsOccupation: WriterRecent Published Works: My Magical Penis, A Big Wand Is A Happy Wand, The Penis That Shook the World. Description and History: Kulrick stands a mere 50 feet tall and since no clothes will fit him he has grown a beard down to his feet to cover his genitalia. His life-expectancy is 500-600 years. He was originally created by "Grizzly Monster Labs" to terrorise a small town on the Europa Colony but got bored of eating people when he discovered his magical power. He quickly advanced to a Level 900 Wizard. The specific magical power he has is the power to douse people in huge amounts of a sticky white substance that dries and crusts within seconds. This was obviously a mis-calculation by the good folks at Grizzly Monster Labs. The sticky white substance is ejected from the tip of Kulrick's penis and he has since had a huge number of job requests that chart his rise to fame. Kulrick first enrolled in the police service on Earth and was used in the field to capture wanted criminals with his powerful SWS (Sticky White Substance) Cannon. However after many years in the police he was forced out due to stepping on too many small babies and eating too many sheep. His escapades capturing criminals gained him much news coverage and a permanent spot on the popular TV show "Cops". His new found fame earned him other jobs such as The Gunge Monster on the childrens TV show "Tellytubbys: The Next Generation", and a permanent place on the Fox Sitcom: "Who Ate My Dog?". After releasing his first book "The Magical Penis" Kulrick opted for the quieter life watching the storms on Jupiter and playing Asteroid Tennis. His book sells were enormous and his cementing as a public figure came when he was knighted by the Queen of Great-Britain, Northern Ireland and Alpha Centuari. Further books were published and Kulrick soon became a very rich genetically modified man. With the release of his last book, "The Penis That Shook The World" he was one of the biggest five authors in the world...literally. However book sells plummitted when the public decided he was getting too big for his shoes. He currently enjoys drinking himself to sleep on the roof of the 17th parallel bar. Quote
Aileron Posted April 5, 2006 Author Report Posted April 5, 2006 Sorry, a new rule, rule 3 3/4, was added...all characters builds, whether before or after the time the edit was made must comply with that rule. Quote
Aileron Posted April 6, 2006 Author Report Posted April 6, 2006 You mean this bullet? *Pulls bullet out of SeVeR's left lung* These are the signups for something a little more serious, so please stop with this routine. Not for my sake, but for the sake of the other people who want to get a serious game going. Play serious for Manus' and Greased's sake, or don't play at all please. Quote
SeVeR Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I was going to be serious but then it all fell apart... it was originally going to be Kulrick the Wise. I'll try and think of something else. Quote
Aileron Posted April 10, 2006 Author Report Posted April 10, 2006 We still need two more people to sign up. Any and all who are interested, sign up please. If you have already signed up, please beat up some defenseless nooblet and force him to sign up to this. Quote
Synister Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Sorry, a new rule, rule 3 3/4, was added...all characters builds, whether before or after the time the edit was made must comply with that rule.Dont be a dumb!@#$%^&* with your character choice? Maybe in the players point of view it isn't as idiotic as in someone else's opinion. Quote
Aileron Posted April 11, 2006 Author Report Posted April 11, 2006 Maybe, though I doubt you could find many people that would consider a naked giant wandering around ejaculating on everything to be 'serious'. A clothed giant* that behaves in a relatively normal fashion would be acceptible, though I'd insist on stating a specific weight (1500 lbs is more or less proportional for that height) as well as height and such a build would have penalties. (most NPCs would flee on sight, cannot wield weapons or pilot ships due to controll mechanisms being too small, absolutely no capacity for sneaking around in normal environments, requires proportionally large amounts of food, water, and air, cannot go through normal doors, transport between planets severly limited due to the requirement that the giant would need to be shipped inside a huge cargo freighter, which by the way needs to be piloted, and finding a pilot is difficult because the NPCs flee on sight, etc.) * He could at very least find a large tarp to cover himself in, and if he's that famous, clothing companies would probably taylor something specifically for him...it would make a 50 ft walking billboard. I guess what I'm really asking is to keep this thread appropriate for kiddies, obey the Laws of Physics, and pretend NPCs have a mind of their own. Do that and your choice will probably be allowed, though its your fault if the penalties you suffer get you killed or render you unable to do anything. Quote
Synister Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 I'll be a GM Human also, I guess I'll edit this post with the other information when I think of it. Quote
Cat Fish Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Ill play, but i have never played this before...what is special about each of the player options??? Quote
Paine Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I think I'll be an ex-ikthul cyborg soldier. If I can, Quote
Aileron Posted May 23, 2006 Author Report Posted May 23, 2006 Well, since its just a forum rpg, there are no stats and there really aren't distinct differences between the choices. I only put that in because in the past people got a little weird...(including myself who decided to be a blob of nanobots one time) The real strength is how creative you are with your choices...barring creativity I'd just recommend a pure human just to avoid nasty suprises. Its seems we have enough players to move foward...I'll start the thread some time this week. Quote
Aileron Posted May 30, 2006 Author Report Posted May 30, 2006 I guess some more details in the descriptions couldn't hurt though: Human: duh Cyborg: A human whose body is partially composed of artificial organs or muscles. Generally one is not regarded as a cyborg if they have one or two small cybernetic implants. Only if the person has some large mechanical device are they considered a cyborg. There are many types of cosmic rays and EMP interference from devices which can disable the cybernetic devices. For that reason most major armies except the Kanatis don't use cyber-soldiers. Genetically Modified Human: A human who's genes have been substancially manipulated in order to increase their performance. Again, a person is not regarded as a GM human if the modification is only minor. It is important to note that while a GM human may be stronger or faster, they still must obey the laws of physics and biology. Their metabolism must increase proportionally, requireing them to consume vast amounts of food, water, and oxygen. For this reason they are banned from worlds with limited resources and major armies do not use GM humans to avoid supply problems. Android: Technically an android is a artifically intelligent robot with human shape, but over the years it has been politically correct to referr to any sentient artificial intelliegence, even those without a body at all, as an android. They are affected by interference even more so than cyborgs and must be especially carefull. Genetic Creation: The process for creating a GM human involves taking human DNA and changing it. Genetic Creations on the other hand involve starting from scratch and thus only master geneticists can even attempt it. Even with a team of experts, creating a lifeform still comes down to luck and there is no consistent method for creating these life-forms. They have the same weakness as GM humans only moreso due to their artifically designed metabolism. Living machine: In attempts to controll what comes out of their experiment, sometime researchers design life-forms that require cybernetic parts to function. The abilities of these motley creations are virtually unlimited, though they have all the weakness of both the androids and the genetic creations. Oh, and for weapons: Ballistic weapons: Guns...they shoot bulletsPlasma Weapons: Shoots superheated Ionized Gas...interfers with mechanical systems, so is additionally effective against cyborgs, androids, and living machines.Beta Weapons: Shoots a high-density field of Beta Particles...has a side effect of messing up genetic code, so they are additionally effective against GM humans, GCs, and LMs. Quote
