2pac Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 What about a bulit in continum player so you dont to minimize your screen to play the song again.
Yupa Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 because it's really easy to do with other programs
Bargeld Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 get a multimedia keyboard with ffwd and rev keys
Darkflare Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 or get plugins for your winamp or whatnot. Pio had made an subspace player that i used, it was really great but he lost the source code to a virus so he stopped development
madhaha Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 I highly recommend Foobar2000 for playing music in subspace . It has been developed for music professionals but it suits our purposes admirably. It has a low overhead so it has less impact on game performance than Winamp and Windows Media Player (it even falls within the 17th Parallel League limits so you can play music while in a tournament). Its a 500kb download for the lite version, 2MB for the special edition so everyone can get a copy quickly and its all freeware. It supports multimedia keyboards out the box. It handles streaming so you can listen to webradio in game. It has a replaygain analyzer so you can play all your songs at the same volume without having to constantly switch. Handles almost any format imaginable and comes with some very nice DSP plugins (it can use standard ones so you can borrow from winamp if you want). -*BAD WORD*- its just a perfect music player in my eyes http://www.foobar2000.org/ Ok, it doesn't have fancy a lot of visualizers or skinning (you can make your own) but it is the best quality music player I've ever used.
Darkflare Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 winamp doesnt slow my comp/connection down at all but it sounds cool, ill check it out anyway
madhaha Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 It tends top drop my framerate lots and create momentary spikes whenever it changes tracks. It has been known to cause visible lag even on fairly high spec machines. Maybe you've just got a great system...
Darkflare Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 nah, my system is about a year old now meaning its way out of date. maybe its just my winamp loves me so much
madhaha Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 Mine is half a year old (although a "budget" system) and it still stutters so I'm willing to bet its quite a common occurance.
Live-Wire Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 If your computer can't handle subspace plus another program, you need to think about getting a new one.
madhaha Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 It can handle plenty of programs at the same time but playing music is always going to use (lots of) resources. Doesn't anyone else get even a slight drop in FPS or any slowdowns?!
Darkflare Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 with winamp running i still get a solid 270+ fps
madhaha Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 I can't even hit 270+ fps. As my computer should be equivilent to yours (unless you bought a Good computer 1 year ago) what am I doing wrong?
Bargeld Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 winamp v2.72 runs way smoother than v3.xI'm on an athlon 1Ghz with 384 PC133 RAM and a Radeon 7200 and I get minimal performance decreases, even during song changes. Without winamp playing: 230 fps, with winamp: 220.The only catch to this is VBR mp3's. Variablt bit rate mp3's alwaays chug my machine when playing, but that is to be expected. There is no reason to use VBR encoding anyway, in this day and age of broadband connections. FYI, listening to a CD shouldn't hurt perforance hardly at all, so you may consider that option too.
madhaha Posted October 17, 2003 Report Posted October 17, 2003 Framerate limit is off. Foobar2000 is written by someone that worked on winamp plugins and winamp2 I believe. All my CD space is taken up by computer disks...
Fluffy White Bunny Posted October 18, 2003 Report Posted October 18, 2003 Theres always the radio.....
madhaha Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Yes but I don't want the radio. I want good quality sound from my own playlist and/or the option to listen to other subspace nuts.
Guest Pio Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 I've created a program to control Winamp using your keyboard. Sphonk made one before, but it doesn't want to work for me on XP and his used a keyboard hook, mine uses pure API (GetAsyncKeyState) to sense key presses. This program is also offers fully customizable key settings for each Winamp function. If you would like to try it out navigate to http://p-soft.org, click 'Products' and it should be the first on the list (screen shot is also available at the same page). Requirments:WindowsWinamp 2.x--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you want to use this with Winamp3, download the following. Thanks to Darkflare for pointing this out.http://www.winamp.com/components3/detail.j...ponentId=118230 For those of you who get it and use it, i hope you enjoy it. For those of you who don't, you're missing out! later, Pio
Darkflare Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 piss, you just keep pumping out those things to help music control inside the game dont you $$ keep up the work. edit: you could probably use a winamp2 plugin manager to try and use the plugin in winamp 2, ill try it out and tell you the outcome. edit2: success, install the winamp2 plugin manager and the stuff will work with winamp3.
Guest Pio Posted October 22, 2003 Report Posted October 22, 2003 How about a link to this "plugin manager".

mister manners Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 Foobar2000, sounds like a band i know... fubar(-*BAD WORD*-ed up beyond all recognition)
madhaha Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 Too tired to explain the origins of "foobar". Suffice it to say the term existed a long time before the band. There is an option to set global hotkeys in Foobar2000 so you can use the keyboard shortcuts from within continuum. Haven't tried it myself so if someone wants to experiment...
