Incomplete Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I have a Speedtouch 330 external modem that's plugged into the back of my PC through USB. I have been using this modem for about a year but yesterday it started to crash my PC, I know its not the USB ports because i have plugged other USB devices into it and the PC works fine. I am using that same modem now on another PC and it's working fine. I was told to reinstall the software so I done that and instead of my PC crashing, it restarts the PC instead. I've started the PC without the modem in and plugged it in when its booted up but it still does the same thing. I'm lucky if the PC loads while its booting up with the modem plugged in. I done scans for stuff and virus checks, delete temp internet files and I still havent had any luck. Anyone know of any solutions? I am thinking of getting a wireless modem, anyone know if they are ok?
Yoink Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 It's a driver issue - Netgear's wireless adapter (not the one I'm using now) used to do that to me. Find an older or newer driver.
»SOS Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 And it might also very likely be either the motherboard or the USB port that is fauly. "Another device works there" means nothing. Still, try some other drivers, yes.
Incomplete Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 I'm a computer idiot, where can I get drivers?
»SOS Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Well, try the website of the company that made the modem.
Incomplete Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 Problems sorted, USB stopped giving the powers to keep it going for some reason. Bought a USB thing that is plugged in through the mains and it works fine now
