17th mostly died imo because of too sudden changes and on top of that non-motivated ones. Of course there are always those players who like to see something new so Zeke completely renewed the unique shipsets of the zone which attracted new players but at the same time upset the old player base of the zone. We've always over the time heard voices calling for a new map and/or game style of this zone. The most drastic change of this can still be seen in a zone now called SSC The Complex. The idea behind this game/map/zone is great! The decision to make this the public map of 17th was the most drastic one. Which again shook the very the player base, attracted new players and made old player base leave. The Complex even fit the war based theme of 17th better than no other map did ever before and had it received more support from the staff at its time (Matrix and Mav pretty much were on their own) it could have been successful. We've since then seen rollbacks of maps and settings. Nothing refreshing, nothing ground breaking just a half arsed changes to attract new players to the zone. But a zone doesn't populate itself. You need to put in far more work and effort than only change the map to make it successful. You can't populate a zone by hosting events that have nothing to do with the zone itself as soon as 4 players have entered. The basic idea and foundation of the zone has to be the fun to play public arena. This is what 17th could provide in the past and what 17th lacks nowadays. The current public map of 17th is designed for a player base of 20+ players. The center of the map does not fit a low population zone and is player unfriendly with nearly no players playing the game. You can't just blow yourself up if you spawn half way across the map. Soccer games with 2 or 4 players is no fun at all. There's no tactic you and/or your team could follow in a map of this proportions... The center of the map is inaccessible, all fine for 20+ but not fit for lower pops. Where's the fun in turf style flag game when one is tapping and the other one immediately retapping... I've known and played 17th for a long time. I've staffed and developed events maps and zones. To sum things up and come to a closure: 17th is missing a clean design philosophy and that is why this zone is and will remain dead.
