Hey cheese.. That's not true, we are individuals.

haha I am drugs, how did you know? Taking antibiotics for my flu =/ Ummm.. antibiotics wont do much for a flu (virus) lol your dr screwed u

Good idea, didn't even think of that. As far as my list its just from oracles website, I have used java "out of the box" or almost out of the box on amiga, os2, linux, and bsd distros, as well as windows. Haven't touched an apple since highschool so have no idea about that. Dunno why .NET is on there either, might have copy n pasted the development list on accident instead of end user list.

Ya thats why I mentioned it... I mean you should see the games that get good reviews in the repositories... lol, subspace is like next generation compared to most of them.
-
...lol...

True but you know alot of people have mentioned iPhone or android support and to me it just seems like it would be extremely awkward on a phone as far as controls go, I just cant seem to think the control precision needed for any real gameplay would be available on a phone.

Expanded user base through cross platform compatability: AmigaOS (m68k), AmigaOS 4 (PowerPC), AROS (x86, PowerPC, m68k), MorphOS (PowerPC) BSD, very cross platform (see NetBSD, for example) Java Linux (x86, x86-64, PowerPC, and other architectures) Mac OS X (PowerPC, x86, x86-64) Microsoft Windows (x86, x86-64) MS-DOS and compatibles on the x86: MS-DOS, DR-DOS, FreeDOS, etc. OS/2, eComStation Solaris (SPARC, x86, x86-64) The CLI, also known by the implementation names .NET Framework (from Microsoft) and Mono (from Novell)

Axe Demento - I appreciate your advice/viewpoint but everyone I know knows about subspace/continuum and chooses not to play anymore, I do play, and I would like to see the zone populations grow so it is once again enjoyable to play. I realize TW and to a lesser degree EG have populations but those aren't zones I am talking about, and eventually those will die as well. I simply suggested Linux as a way to expand the user base on more of a mass level. I am almost 30 years old now, most of my friends don't even game anymore

4. Usenet - Most everyone I know uses this, granted they are more advanced users 5. FTP rings - Still alive and kicking, though they aren't really advertised in any way and you usually have to be invited Alot of people do use Limewire... but it seems to suck no matter how many people use it, so full of junk files and viri (for you windoze people anyways) the days of Napster and programs like cutemx were the height of p2p clients such as these.
-
Ya it wasnt so much the application kazaa itself, it was the P2P backbone, and with skype obviously it hasn't failed, microsoft just bought it for a tidy sum a few months ago.

I think he does care... but maybe its kind of the same reason someone doesn't give up ownership of a squad, or zone for many years, they feel it is theirs? maybe he is secretly designing a new client or totally new subspace game

i will try to donate, need to get my paypal sorted out, pain in the ass to recover password if your email changed.

This map editor's link on mine go boom's site is no longer good. I need to convert from .bmp... Any other utility has this capability? or anyone have a copy of FACTS please. Thanks!
-
Still no luck on Mint 12 with any of the how-to's i have followed if anyone else has been successful can you please help.

Didn't really mean for a flame war to start. Cannot be done, can be done. Don't really take opinions as facts... Is anyone willing to do it, or to contribute if a team is gathered or something is put into place. Has PriitK been contacted before? and how can he be contacted now. Btw, polishing a turd and restoring a classic are two entirely different things.

I realize it isn't easy, I realize not very many people have time for this kind of thing. I also realize subspace/continuum is very old and outdated graphically. Windows users have so much more to choose from these days, and I guess that was kind of a point I was trying to make. BSD & Linux users do not have much to choose from if they dont wan't to spend hours compiling and tweaking stuff to make games work. The majority of BSD and Linux users are an older crowd with an appreciation for the nostalgic. So what if the game is old? The game play is still relevant. Just suggesting that if a new user base is opened up it might extend the life of the game for another decade, maybe slightly less.

I agree avast. My programming skills are far from the level it would require, there are many games in the world that are far more advanced as far as graphics and programming are concerned, they were cloned from closed source games, work great. I wish I could do it, my post would have been completely different if I could. Obviously if we are all here we must have some love for the game. Has anyone tried to get BDE to release the source code to the community, as an asset its not worth much, or so it seems. Priitk still not willing to release it? even though it could potentially save the game from complete death? If it was done once (continuum) it can be done again... Also my point initially is that it shouldn't just be playable, but somehow be included in the default repositories like Nexuiz, open arena, warzone 2100 etc.

I have no idea if this has been posed before. I recently started playing subspace again and am very disheartened to see the games dying. 3 years ago I migrated almost completely to linux, finally choosing linux mint as my preffered linux flavor. One thing I noticed about linux distros ubuntu and mint (and basically all distros) is their default repositories lack greatly in games, especially games which are multi-player online and also fun and dont require much hardware resource to run (basically 0 if you account for the last bit) I have posed an idea to several veterans who I know, and they seemed to like the idea. Also, i posed the question to many of my friends in the mint community, and they also seemed interested. I realize the continuum client can be ported to linux with patches and wine, that is not what i am interested in or suggesting. What I am suggesting is that a version of continuum or completely new client be developed for linux distros, especially ubuntu/mint debian based distros, I also suggest that this be pushed to be included within the default repositories. The little resistance to the idea that I have encountered deals with linux users only making up 1-10% of the online community as a whole. Even if .5% (yes i said point five) of mint/ubuntu users end up playing subspace/continuum, this would mean hundreds of new players if not more. Consider it please.

Thank you, alot more people are feeling the same way (at least everywhere else) as Myspace isnt exactly "fast" this actually allows people to direct link on the myspace page, so they can have a Streaming player or whatever imbedded into their myspace page and get fast streams that arent from the crappy myspace player.

Ill go to the library and scan it up for you tommorow, seriously this is the only negative response I have gotten so far. I wasnt looking for a critique, I was looking to help people out. And its not like its any skin off anyones back except my own, im not charging or even advertising any companies on my site.

Excuse me, this is a legitimate post. The people who know me know I am 100% honest. You may ask the sysop of DSB about my character or lots of other respected members of this community. I used to offer a similar thing for many squadrons in DeathStarBattle, only it was free web space. My offer here is for any unsigned struggling musicians or artists who would like to expose their talents to the world, what is so wrong with this? My local government doesnt think so and has sent me a letter of thanks for my Community Service. You may host DJ mixes, it is legal, I am a producer myself. You may question DOA (Dogs on Acid) a hugely popular mix forum site about the legalities of DJ mixes. The next time you make a personal attack please make some sense. http://darkfears.net/images/here.gif

They care...to conserve their power. SubSpace is dead. Now you have Continuum. And who plays Infantry on Sony? FreeINF is the (new wave) way. I've quit this game altogether, found something much better. Subspace is just fine.
