My top four would be: life, emoDevs (that 19 hours later ninja edit), Digs, and kentasaurus None of us would ever play. We'd sit in spec and discuss at length which four pilots would make the best team of all time, then compare their in game prowess with our spec chat prowess to see which team was actually better at what they do.
-
Simply saying someone is the best playmaker doesn't really encompass what I was asking, however. I asked if someone was the playmaker of their team and finished with a lower K/D ratio, are they more valuable than someone that is more of a sniper but finishes with a superb ratio? That's where K/D doesn't really tell the story. Simply labeling someone a "playmaker" is pretty short sighted if you're just going to reference me to the fact that there is a category for "playmaker" without explaining how/why that person is less valuable than the MVP when the comparisons for MVP are done on a purely statistical based format.
-
Absolutely, Street Fighter. Did you read it or my reply? The only thing this thread talks about is KDA, team records in their respective games, and who the stats were earned against. There's not a single mention of forced/wasted reps, situational kills, leadership, how the team MIGHT have done without the player playing, etc.
-
Just comparing stats seems so uninformative. This isn't a triple crown type of thing where you need to lead categories. MVP should be the value of the player to the team. Granted, valuable players normally will have good stats because that's the nature of things, but stats shouldn't paint the entire picture. Furthermore, in other sports stats are static. If you hit a home run in the 9th inning of a baseball game during a blow out, it's in a losing effort maybe but the feat is still just as difficult. Kills, assists, and FR's in Subspace tend to get easier as the game draws nearer to the end. Without knowing where those kills came, let's just say that out of Legacy's 34 kills, 17 came in a 4v3 or better situation. Is that weighed differently than develop's kills if the majority of his came 4v4? Again, I have no idea how or when they were registered, I'm simply going by someone giving Legacy's K/D on this thread and using it as an example. Also, what about things like ddpm, bomb/bullet accuracy%, or negative stats like WR, WRkt, and TK? If someone is the play maker of their team and doing 2500ddpm with 55% bomb accuracy but goes 33-17 in a season, are they more valuable to their team than someone that does 1200ddpm with 26% bomb accuracy but goes 36-9? The bots here track so much information that only bringing up K/D/A and W/L seems to be such a waste.

If I may ask, B-hole, what geographical area are you from? I was extremely into photography (and still consider myself a huge fan), but being from Illinois there simply isn't a ton of places to go that are nearby if you want to get into landscape photography. I bought a Nikon D5100 a couple of years ago, took it everywhere for the first year I had it, then it's been sort of packed away in a closet ever since. Midwestern life doesn't really offer a lot of different scenery and it feels like you've sort of hit a creative dead end after a short time. Cool that from first impression you're a gear head! I'm not so much into track racing as much as I am into 60's and 70's era muscle/classic cars. I'd rather put money into an original Mopar than a modern luxury sports car. I did cave, however, and bought my 2010 Challenger SRT8 when there were no 1970-1972 Challengers in my area after a year or more of looking (I did come close to buying an original 1970 GTO [my 2nd favorite car] but couldn't pull the trigger). Which track do you race at? A good friend of mine raced his Mustang at the track near Fort Atkinson, WI I believe it was (NASCAR does a road race there each season). It's on my bucket list. The other thing you and I share is a complete dislike of Three. Kudos!

As league op, I'd say he's doing a fairly good job. Participation is up, there are more squads than there have been in recent seasons, games have gone smoothly with really only one squad being inactive, etc. As sysop, or whatever label it's given, that oversees 4v4 arenas as a whole, I'd say I have a different opinion. For whatever it's worth, which probably isn't more than the cost of the pixels this is typed on, having a hands-off approach is bad. Very bad. The 4v4 arenas are a daily/nightly thing for most people. These people see trends, while others may call them problems, and archaic rules that were put into place years ago don't always stand the test of time or evolve with the game. Without being there to witness it yourself, things can only be taken for face value. Reminding people that you're pretty "meh" about anything that is SS related is almost like saying you're apparently going to take the easy road when it comes to every judgment call while falling back on a rule set that is simply outdated or non-applicable. From my perspective, and basing this largely on the last few weeks, 4v4 (the arena, not the activity) at night has gotten entirely boring and monotonous. By the time I log in after work, which is generally around 10:15pm Central time, there are often 40+ people in a single arena, !showline has 6-10 people in it, but the same 8-12 people end up playing for the next hour while the people that are still trying to get a cap slowly dwindle as they begin to log off. Now perhaps I'm logging in after the height of 4v4 activity has died down and everyone has gotten their fill. Maybe my opinion is completely baseless for that reason alone. I just have doubts that starting the moment before I log in, the arena that has 40+ people in it has suddenly turned into only 8-12 active players while everyone else is afk. Furthermore, there are plenty of other posts that complain about forcecap, so I don't think I'm too far from the truth. The solution we were offered was "Get 8 people and go to another arena." That's not addressing the issue, or even attempting to discuss an accepted solution. That's putting the blame squarely on the players that are getting their cap removed from them. It's essentially saying "It's your own fault for not playing." I guess it's even more frustrating when in the same breath we're told that the reason for not burning or speclocking people that lag out multiple times is partially due to the inability to find a sub. So finding a single sub for someone that lags out more than 5 times can be a difficult task at times (so no need to change rules), but finding 8 people to go to a new arena isn't (so no need to change rules). I refer back to my earlier comment about taking the easy road when it comes to judgment calls. I'd say it's safe to presume that most people know that I log in for Chatspace more than anything. If I reach 50 practices in a month, I've had a busy month. That being said, since joining Rebels for league, I've been far more active in practices than at any other point in the last 3-4 years, maybe longer. I also know and accept that outside of squad practices or claiming a cap, I don't get picked for practices. I'm fine with that...I'm not good. Yet, when I know that I have little to no chance of getting into a practice because my cap will be forced away, it really lowers the desire to even log in (when I'm logging in hoping to get a claim or two, that is). My time spent in SS has steadily gone down over the last two weeks, outside of weekends when I know squadmates are on and we can get a practice going in one of the arenas. I'm not implying that I'm any more important to SS than anyone else, but merely giving an opinion on something that I enjoy being a part of. Perhaps the stance of "I don't care" is a good way to diffuse and limit trash talking, but when the daily playerbase starts to not care because they have restricted access to the game (read as: forcecap being abused), it may be time to tune in and be open to suggestions. But I digress... Meh. P.S. I'm not just trying to tear into you, Caerbannog. I've always been on friendly terms with you. Heck, we've been in the same Skype channel text chatting with everyone else in there for nearly two years. I simply don't see eye to eye with you on this issue. It's nothing personal, and I hope that's evident despite the tone in this post.
-
And another thing, you're talking about very relaxed lag limits with laggers. Obviously people are talking about the issues that are seen when Macuto is lagging to spec 15 times in a game and never burning items. There should be a limit, like league. Perhaps not spec locking the person forcing them to get a sub, but after 5 lag outs they need to have their items removed for no other reason than it being an unfair advantage (and that's not counting the lost items burned on them because of their lag, like having to rep after pb bombing yourself because of a skip).
-
Solution to those issues: If the player doesn't respond to the bot every 15 minutes, the captain is removed and first offered to other people on the frequency, then to those next in line (if they're online). There can be check points added to make sure captains are kept active or cycled through to the next person. Sometimes at night there aren't 8 other people. There might only be 3 from a squad and 1 more, and they are shit out of luck because of forcecap. Forcecap was added to allow for squad practices, that's why it was only put into squad arenas. Now it's just become a mockery. There are literally two squads that monopolize the arena after 10:30pm central time and they aren't always practicing other squads. That's not good. It needs to be fixed. Finding excuses or loopholes doesn't address the issue. If people want to be so anal that they are switching arenas every single practice to keep playing the same people, so be it. They're the ones that are going out of their way to do it, not the people patiently waiting in spec. You're punishing the people that want to play because you seemingly do not want to change the set up.
-
I was not aware of this fact. Perhaps im playing subspace during sleepwalks? Feel free to provide logs of these "often" events. LOL @ denying you've ever subbed for items in a practice multiple times, or in consecutive practices. Even the league admin has witnessed it. That's why I don't quite understand why it wasn't punished right then and there....or 2 weeks later like Rage.
-
Then why not at least remove items from people that lag out multiple times? I seem to recall the reason why it was made to re-prize the lost items was to aid newer players who were already in a steep learning curve environment - and to just make practices feel more like an entertainment than a pressure filled league match. While that has been the outcome, it's become a form of abuse because some people seem to induce lag. There should never be a reason why someone that has lagged out 3+ times is allowed to continue playing with no item loss. Half the time it's the opposing team that is penalized by losing items because they are forced to burn reps on the lagger or wasted rockets/thors on him right before he lags to spec and avoids death. There is literally no penalty for people that are forcing lagging in a zone that already had pretty relaxed lag limits. Again, this is a far bigger detriment to the zone as a whole than the two occasions someone subbed in after dying out (and banning for someone subbing in to try and win the SQUAD PRACTICE seems ridiculous compared to someone subbing in on the other team after dying out to deliberately try and ruin the match by suiciding). There needs to be situational judgment before just dishing out a ban.
-
I see. In that case I see nothing wrong with Candyman trying to simulate events that transpire during a match (using one full sub - completely legal in a match). What Rage was just banned for isn't allowed in a match. I also think all lag outs should be burnt in a practice (just like a match). The idea being that there aren't enough staff members to police whether or not a player intentionally lagged themselves out to either not die or lose items. Max lag outs in practices should be set to 3 (looks at Macuto and shakes his head), just like a match. Time limit being 30 minutes instead of 45 I understand. It seems counterintuitive to have practice rules differ from match rules when the entire purpose of practicing is to prepare for a match.... but hey, that's me. Cheers. Lag out limit at 3 was previously set. People would just get a new alias. Thus it was removed. And prac rules just... are different. And you should not "emulate" fullsubs, just like no one "emulates" a match lag out. And Legacy is gone for three days for subbing in for the opposing team and suiciding out. http://www.svssubspace.com/?page=Game&id=113835&season=0 But you just banned people that are bypassing the rules to sub back in under different aliases, so that shouldn't be an issue. I would say people lagging out 10+ times and coming back each time with their item list is far more of an everyday problem. Furthermore, if people know that the penalty for subbing themselves after max lag outs is punishable by ban, they aren't going to do it unless they're just ignorant. Heck, just do the simple thing, punish the laggers by removing their items. At least that's a start in the right direction. Also, how is admitting that someone is cheating by doing "fullsubs" in practice not being punished? You witnessed it, as have others, more than likely many, many times. It shouldn't take a "log" to prove anything when you're witnessing it first hand. Or you could just decide to not ban either person since this happened in a practice and really didn't affect anyone or anything in the grand scheme of things. I even say that about Legacy, which is one of the people that I dislike the most. There are far greater problems in this zone/arena than people subbing in after they died (i.e. abuse of !forcecap). People subbing in after they've died out isn't segregating or deterring the population which has a direct impact on league's longevity.

To think that 4v4 practices should resemble match day as closely as possible is rather silly. 4v4 is a sub arena with it's own settings, and people play there for those specific reasons. If you're going to make 4v4 practices like real matches, then remove access from all non-rostered players. Hey, it will cut down on aliasing which isn't allowed in league! It will also cut the current population by about 30-35%...doh! Also remove !forcecap so teams like Requiem and Nuke cannot monopolize an arena for the entire night. !forcecap isn't part of league and if 4v4 is meant to prepare for matches then everyone should have an equal opportunity. You can't pick and choose which aspects of league you want to be enforced while ignoring the ones that may or may not apply to you personally. Fullsubbing in a practice is pathetic and a douchebag move whether it's allowed in a match or not. *If Rage subbing in BURNED for an open spot on a different alias during a practice is illegal, then so is subbing for full items in a practice. Hell, even Caer said that if you're going to report cheating then don't fullsub in practices, which implies that it IS cheating. I don't know how one is allowed but one isn't? Maybe because people aren't so anal that they actually report Candyman cheating in practices. On the other hand, if Caer knows about it and implies that it is illegal, why isn't it resulting in a delayed ban like Rage's so-called offense?
-
He's talking about the fact that Candyman, in the past, has often subbed himself or another Requiem player that was 0/0 LL during a practice, then proceeded to change ships and say it's an allowed fullsub. That is apparently legal, despite the bot distinguishing it as an illegal ship change, but subbing in burned on a different alias after dying out is worthy of a 5 day ban two weeks after the fact. It's quite laughable, but not really.
-
Subbing yourself burned is worse than someone subbing in and illegally changing ships to get a full repertoire of items. Got it. /logicfail

After a couple of successful hockey and football fantasy leagues, a few of us are looking to give fantasy baseball a whirl. Ra, kentasaurus, and myself are all new when it comes to fantasy baseball, and it's simply something we'd like to try. None of us are baseball fanatics, and I haven't been in a fantasy baseball league in about 25 years. Needless to say, this league isn't going to be highly competitive or demand an extensive amount of insider baseball information to be enjoyable. All I ask is that managers are active. I understand that the season is quite long so times will undoubtedly come up when you cannot be active (summer vacations, work schedules, holidays, etc). However, I don't want people that will show up to the draft then go afk for the season if they don't like their team. The league is set up for 10 teams, but that is subject to change based on the level of interest. Three of those spots are accounted for, so seven managers are needed - I hope that a couple more from the hockey league will join so that reduces the amount of slots to be filled. The draft is scheduled for April 20th at 5:30pm Eastern time. Again, all settings can be changed - including statistical catagories, roster size, draft date/time, etc. If you are interested, please reply letting me know. If you have any questions, here is the place to ask. I'll give more information regarding the league tonight when I get home tonight. For those of you that need no details and are simply interested in joining, shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll give you the link to sign up. Digs/Steve

After a brief disliking of the settings the first day, even though I started off in there years and years ago, I warmed up to the DZ settings when the enjoyment of getting in and not having to green to be competitive was realized. The only issue that was fairly evident was the ability to dominate a zone with a team of four holding the flag while only seven people were playing. 4v1v1v1 with one player having L4 bullets was a bit much. I thought the event was pretty successful all in all. The population was steady even with some recognizable CZ names never showing up (Gad, Skiz, and Cammi come to mind). It would be nice to see DZ settings become a common event - perhaps every or every other weekend? It's hard to say whether or not the enjoyment of DZ was only due to the fact that it was a change or because of the settings/map themselves. At any rate, I think the majority of responses in game and in here seemed to be of positive nature, so perhaps another event isn't too far off. Personally, I'd enjoy playing there again. I'd even suggest a more permanent switch (perhaps two or three weeks) to see how the player retention stands up to something other than an event. A slightly intoxicated recollection leads me to believe at one point on Saturday evening there were five teams of four and two teams of three in game playing, along with the stragglers that were on a team of one. More than 30 in game - that's not too shabby.

This is the second time he's cheated in a prac in as many months. Can we permanently remove him? He's clearly a cheater that is worried about his robot statistics. Actually, last time he swore that if he got banned for 3 days he would quit due to the principle of the matter (yes, he used the word "principle" after cheating). When he comes back, it might be worth taking him off ignore just to see the giant tantrum he throws. It could be pez-esque.
