I hope it's okay to post about a game developed by the same company (Harmless Games). Some of you may already know about infantry, and you'd know that both games are very similar in a lot of ways. I made a thread on teamliquid (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=241317) in the hopes of getting some testers, maybe some people here are interested as well. I'll post the same thing I posted in the TL thread incase no one wants to click any external links. What makes this game unique? -Supports up to 200 players in one arena -Intelligent projectile/physics coding, where aim, reflexes, and teamwork matter -Isometric viewpoint: rewards battlefield awareness -Complex damage models (a lot of people don't realize this makes a fun game) -Several game types (Zones) for different tastes -User-friendly (sort-of) editors and open source C# scripting What are some similar games to Infantry? -Nox developed by Westwood Studios (bought out by EA) -Subspace/Continuum -Asteroids (except infantry is the MMO version, and much better, only comparable on a fundamental level) How are the graphics? 2.5D allows the game to operate at a very high efficiency rate, dedicating its resources to important game functions instead of shiny/flashy effects that doesn't contribute to gameplay that much, but at the same time avoids the graininess of most other 2D games. This game is so old, why bother playing it? Some of the best games of our generation have stood the test of time because developers back then better understood what it meant to create a game with less fluff and more interesting mechanics (IMO). This game will challenge you unlike most other games (not quite as hard as starcraft obviously! I don't know if it helps to say that I'm in "master league" and I enjoy challenging games with high skill caps) I thought SoE owned this game and ran it into the ground? They do, and they did...here's the thing though. The game used to be free and was put on a payment service around 2001. Hundreds of thousands of people used to play this game, and then 95% of the population left. The game is once again free, but SoE does not actively develop it (they use random tech supports from their other games to occasionally check up on the server). Why is it Infantry "2.0"? Infantry 2.0 is "the people's" server, allowing for open development and constant updates. The game server was reverse engineered by a talented coder named aaerox. This project has been going on for years now, and finally has produced some remarkable results in the form of moving AI with fully integrated C# scripting. Where can you find players who play this game? Our IRC address is ircd.suroot.info, channel #infantry Forums are www.freeinfantry.org How can I play? First, download the majority of files from SoE: http://www.soe.com/casualProduct.vm?Id=039&eula=1 You can download our Launcher at: http://www.mediafire.com/?ywsql30bqs99cpw Instructions: -Start Launcher.exe, ignore the source code folder unless you're skeptical and want to see what's in the program. -Input a random username and password, this will be yours from now on. -Click Launch and browse to infantry.exe in your Infantry folder. (Only done once) -This should launch Infantry, go into options and remove the directory servers. -Add in infdir1.aaerox.com as the only directory server, hit ok then Refresh the zone list, ZZ should come up, enter an Alias and enter.
