I downloded and installed the Windows 8 Release Preview on a partition last night and have been playing around with it a bit today. It's not as bad as I expected. I was under the impression that there wasn't even an option to use the standard Windows style desktop, but there is. Basically, when the computer boots up you are taken to the new start menu with all the tiles and such, and then you can either load up the metro style apps from there or switch to a normal, start button lacking, windows desktop. As far as I know there is no option to boot to the normal desktop by default, which in my opinion is the biggest setback about Windows 8. It feels like I'm running two different operating systems - one for a tablet, and one for a PC. While I could see the new start menu being good for on a tablet, it feels more like a roadblock on a desktop. I'll probably keep using it for a week or so and then go back to 7.
