What is the incentive of joining a top tier Pro League squad?
Arctos replied to mindriot's topic in 4v4 League
To me it has always been who you get to prac with and share the experience of a title race. Sadly and selfishly I want to play with people who are similar and who understands teamwork and not alot of new players fit that criteria. I think that's beacuse new players who are mostly familiar with mixed pracs have a much harder time learning the intricate side of 4v4 and also the opportunities to improve are too few and too far apart. There are a few low-to-mid-tier squads who puts in the hard work and are nursering talent, like Discombobulate and Dropships last season for example and the future of 4v4 would be grim without these squads forming. Having said that it doesn't take a top-tier squad, and I have enjoyed the struggle to form a competitive team from scratch (I have been part of starting more new squads than I can remember), but having played for so long, and most if not all the players on the top squads are seasoned veterans, sometimes you just want to be able to jump in and play and know that your teammates can perform, so I understand the people who ride the bench just to be able to play with their peers. -
My only question is, how did you get that from VHS to the interwebs?

For the record this is the registry key for the directory servers: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Continuum\Options]"DirectoryServer"="sscentral.sscuservers.net ssdir.playsubspace.com sscentral.trenchwars.org" ...and you could populate a [sUBSPACEDIR]zone.dat with the current zones.
-
Yea, this needs to be handled now. I had to talk Jae through getting into Chaos zone yesterday. Even with what I thought was the correct directory servers he ended up having to add the zone manually as a custom zone. The only reason he got in is because he had someone on a chat who could help him. How many others stop trying?

Candyman. In a jav.

Travis, malefactor, darkhosis, Garcon would be my very old school lineup. Rage, nacre, three, Kingnewbie for my post year 2000 lineup.
-
9-volt. He has a long track record for subbing in and changing games in favor of his team. Also, Sika if he is in the right mood.

9pm alienates all europeans. Would love to participate but not at 3 in the morning. /Arc

It's good that you brought it up. I was hoping this would be the next thing to discuss assuming we can come up with some viable maps. The choices we have are to stay with current map, replace it straight up, rotate a number of maps during the season or do something like you suggest which I think is a great idea. We could have more than two maps for this although I suspect the overall logistics might become increasingly difficult with each map. If this would happen I would also suggest to have all playoffs on the current map.

That's a very valid point, which I agree with to some degree. Then again this is Subspace, and the maps in every zone has evolved or been replaced over the years, even the league map although it has been roughly the same for over a decade. We will see. At least it has become clear that a new map needs to resemble the current one in structure and the type of games it produces. The current map to me is also flawed in some areas and I'm still hoping we can come up with something better. Then it will be up to the players to decide.

Thanks for all the feedback. From what I've read here and talked to people in game there seems to be alot of difference in opinions. Which is good, a map should be a bit uncomfortable for everyone without forcing a specific style of play. But that's just my opinion. I will tweak these maps during the season, based on feedback (keep it coming) and with some help from a few people. Still looking forward to seeing what the general public can come up with, get to work.

The council has started discussing the possibility of a new pro map. Although most are reluctant I think we at least give it a chance to see what we can come up with and so I ask the public to see if there's anyone out there who is willing to produce a map that could be considered as a future league map. To get it started I have submitted two maps which hallu has put up in test arenas. We also have the maps that was submitted for a pro map contest in 2001 but most if not all of those where rejected by the general public. I have attached them along with my maps to this forum post if anyone is interested. ?go 4v4arc1 http://www.arthes.se/files/arcpremier.130120-m.jpg This is a new map. It has a fair amount of open space and mostly familiar structures. ?go 4v4arcwide http://www.arthes.se/files/arcwidepremier.140228-m.jpg This is a rather old map, 2006 I think, that has been up and tested in prac arenas before. If you are interested in making a map feel free to contact me if you need help getting started. If you are set on your own and want to submit a map, contact hallu and I'm sure he can help put it up for a test run. Please use this thread to post comments about the maps. I will keep this updated if or when we receive new submissions. We'll let this run it's coarse and at the end of the season, if we have one or more submissions with a general approval, it will be taken up for further discussion in the council. If after this everyone thinks we should keep the same map we will try again in another 10 years. /Arc promaps-contest-2001.zip arctosmaps.zip

You can unlock now. It's been settled.

Backarrow will be returning.

Will there be an AML final after the round robin is finished?
-
Right, if we are to take that in account we have two options - either go with option 2 or we have AML playoffs for another 4 weeks.
-
Looks like it's round robin. Can we do it so that we play two games each weekend, 3 and 4 pm?
-
I didn't know we were still in the mix but I assume that we are now in the AML playoffs after losing to Llamas? I'd say go with option 2.

Here's my recap. Caerbannog was benched. The rest of us played subspace. The others on Caerbannogs squad, who seem like pretty cool guys, congratulated us on a nice win. Caerbannog wrote a grudging essay about how it was all a fluke. The end. Edited out the gruesome part for the sake of my kharma.

Oh and yes, Assassins will return aswell. /Arc

I want to sign up a "new" squad for next season: Made in Sweden. Captains: Candyman, Arctos /Arc

For the last time, can we get rid of this plague once and for all? I don't even care enough anymore to voice a convincing argument. Fuck you, thats why. /Arc
