  1. Hi, in a very boring slow days in class, I rediscovered this game and started playing again. The memories came back and now I'm hooked. Anyways, Game still alive? How's the zones? (DSD rox, TW sux ) Have we managed to promote this game in any meaningful way, so it's not just something for diehards of a 10+ game? Prittk still an inaccessible douche who won't release the source? Barring all that, there are projects for a new SS? I've glanced over and saw SS2 and Thirdspace (lol, Thirdspace was around when I left, glad to see it still "around", though verrrrry slowly ) Anyways, good to be home.
  2. I am afraid of anyone who has over 15 times my usage.. and half my join date. (01 myself).
  3. *obligatory mention of Alpha West being "technically"/"historically"/"morally" the newbie zone and hence should be included, by right* Yea, I'm letting my bias show. But if you're doing it, I hope you'll at least *mention* Alpha, since you'll be definitly be doing Chaos, and they sort of lead on from each other...tie it in when you doing the commentary somehow? :S Showing even more bias now, I don't know the "order" you'll be presenting Zones in the video... I just feel it'll more "right" if it intros with SVS first, given the *are* the orginal (and in a sense default) settings, even though TW/EG is more popular nowadays.
  4. Mav: Point taken, but I'm more referring to that fact it isn't "zone specific" doesn't introducing the "DSB specific" game, rather what is learnt by the player there can be used for the vast majority of zones. And yeah, short of SSC Tutorial, I'm kinda pushing that to be the standard tut map..
  5. Has anyone else seen it? Its been there for a while now (more than a few months at least), hopefully I'm not the only one that saw it... Basically, its a simple "how to play" guide..instructions are placed on the map and you basically follow the directions. Anyways, I wondering if DSB has any plans...to make that public property? (to be copied/make additions/be adapted to thier own zones) I just think all zones would benefit having something like that as one of thier maps as something to direct newbies to... Its probably one of the best tutorials I've seen...and despite being in DSB, it isn't zone specific. And unlike issues surrounding the copying of most arenas, this map isn't really a "selling feature" for DSB specifically, as in a unique reason to come and play DSB. I also might as well put it out in the open as well, since someone might of found something even better somewhere. Anyone find any good tutorial maps?
  6. I assume you've seen the EG and TW promo vids? They are quite good.., but I was hoping to find one non zone affilated. On a related topic, since its possible to record games...how about recorded games? I'm looking at league matches here... Most major "real time" games have it... and its always interesting to look at videos demostrating the skills of the best SS has to offer... This would be especially easy in "ball" based games... I mean just set your spec to follow the ball, and record. In team games, it won't be perfect (following.. a particular players view), but it'll still be great. If not league matches.. at least the "finals"?
  7. Mission wasn't entirely successful. (Hence I have been hiding!). But more lack of planning on my part.., standing and handing doesn't really work, and I got to booked a table/stall that usually set up near the uni's main hangout for clubs to use... Give me "legitimacy" as well,...like I've a reason to be there and ain't so dodgy as a random handing stuff. (Fortunately, I guess? I haven't "wasted" the CDs - still got most of it on me to try this out.. better than just dumping it I believe!). Subspace works on Linux through WINE I heard, yes? Though that's quite difficult solution. I don't know really... I guess most mac/luniux player are already used to being excluded :S
  8. Except of course, they are several SS facebook group already. The oldest and most popular being "I play a 2d space ship game" with 150 members... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204818732 Today's progress, my club site is up! Just a modified blog on blogger, still need to put a lot of things on it, so not giving the link yet... I also convinced my friend to make an Autorun for my promo cds so that is loads up a page I've made explaining SS + my club... before they click the button on the page the will load the standard Cont Installer...
  9. Since the OP referred to me, as the guy with the Uni SS players group.. I better respond. (Though its 2am right now haha...) While I'm no model, I will be handing out CDs of the game, as well a bit of promotion about SS and the Club out at Uni on Tuesday. See http://www.arc.unsw.edu.au/docs/Blitz/07_s2_week9/1.pdf , page 12. "Computer Game Giveaway - CONTSOC"..., so it real and I can't back out of it lol. That is our uni's free weekly student magazine, free distributed around uni for anyone to take a copy. Its going to be a interesting day, wish me luck. I'll post a proper reply to the thread later...maybe.
  10. Hi everyone, As the topic says, I'm looking at starting a Subspace Soc/Club at my university. (UNSW.. A Uni in Australia if anyone cares) A little about me: Total Usage: 297 hours 42 minutes First played: 5-26-2001 3:51:18 I usually play, TW, DSB or one of the SVS zones. I'm strictly a casual player, usually playing in pub (Or at times in a sub arena if there an alternative styled game e.g. in TW elim or tourny), not a novice (depends how you define it really), but the point there is I'm not a committed compe!@#$%^&*ive league player. And neither is the sort of people I am expecting to join this sort of soc. Anyways, a couple of questions. - Am I correct that Subspace/Continuum is allowed to be freely distributed? Specifically, I am intending to burn copies and hand it out as a promotion to try the game and join our club. - Am I allowed to charge money to join my society? I know I'm not allowed to "sell" the game, but I am allowed to give the game for free, while seperartely convincing to join my society for a nominal fee? (Which apart from offering a support group of fellow local SS players, would also do RL "stuff".. like any other RL Uni club does). This is mainly to re-coup some of my expenses of buying CD's + Printing/Promotion costs. -Speaking of promotion, anyone got any good banners/material for promoting Subspace/Continuum? Or at least images of ships/space (To whip "something" up) Things that could be used for A4 (As a poster) and/or Leaflet and/or "Snippet" size (Handout/Leave around). The ones I have seen that could work are the ones in the SVS beginners guide. http://subspace.legendzones.com/advertising.php and the Chaos Zone ones http://www.subspacechaos.com/downloads.php However most zone sites have a downloads section, and some have wallpapers, so I guess it can do. (If/Once I can add some words to it...) Also for interest sake (Might also be useful at a later point) does anyone know of any good promo videos> If not that, any sort of recorded game kinda thing that shows for cool SS is? Just asking after seeing TW and Extreme Games' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=algSNNceHoI youtube promo vids. - MOST IMPORTANTLY: I am looking for an appropiate zone for sort of players/setup I have been describing. Specifically: 1. They will be completely new to this game. So hopefully something that captures thier attention easily... and not too discouraging. 2. The way I'm setting this up, for our society events, our members set a specific time to meet up, and we play eachother. In this case, I want it away from "randoms" interfering as much as possible. At this point at least. Who knows! If this is actually sucessful, we could form a real squad and take part in leagues against "other people" lol. Though I doubt anyone would want to play against an all Aussie group Any suggestions? My limited reasearch says doing it through the TWD system could work. Split our members into different squads, and we play eachother. And the TWD system doesn't excatly have a start and end date, unlike leagues, I believe. Also allows for less...commitment too I think? It allows you to decide when you want to play a match. HOWEVER, I am open to anything at works really. Thanks.
