Hi there - I have been playing SS for years on this same computer, for the past year on XP. I formatted my PC last night, and upon installing SS - I had almost the exact same problem as Mare. I will get the thunderclap, then on the splash screen, when clicking on zones and ships i get the little beep, however...In game, NO sound at all! I have tried all the different sound quality settings, I have updated to the latest direct x version, I have done all windows updates...nothing. My computer is old, and as such there are no updatable drivers for my sound card. However, sound IS working in windows. Please help!!! Thanks! Edit to add - I just did the direct x diagnostics, and there were no problems found...sound test passed, i also tried turning off hardware accelleration, still no sound at all in game.
