  1. Why are you all only posting pictures of the models you all have made? The thread creator originally asked for 3D models, not pictures of the models. 3 posts of 556 in this thread delivered on-topic material。 post #26,reuploaded the files in post #101 after the attachments had been deleted for some unknown reason;added another ship in post #109 。 This is the only reply in this entire thread that delivers. In addition, if I may go so far to say except for the lanc these models are pretty crappy. 99.5% of thread has been useless to people interested in obtaining 3D models of the ships. The topic title is misleading given the content of this thread. Along with the pictures of the models you all have made, post the 3D meshes or else don't post at all?
  2. Sounds like a case of not being a defensive driver salted with a dash of Southern racism. Yeehaw
  3. she is beyond cute in that video lol Someone made a video with the cutest highlights, set to music
  4. Quite a nice design. Great job A few particulars: The banner background image as well as the navigation tabs on the top of the page have subtle/little color contrast. My TN-panel LCD monitor suffers from bad viewing vertical angles, so that the top of the screen is darker than it should be. What this means for your website is that I thought the banner background was a solid black-brown until I studied your site (most visitors will not spend time studying your website to pick up on subtle details). The active navigation tab vs inactive tabs are hard to distinguish with a quick view. I suggest making the border of the active tab a lighter color to make the contrast less subtle and easier to pick up on a quick glance. Make the login box a different color than the content bubbles/boxes. Here you can use subtle color contrast because the the placement-location of the login box already conveys much of the meaning that it's different from the content boxes. But having a different color entices vistors to play-with-it / sign-up, and helps emphasize returning-people to log-in. Your *asterisks on forms: Put a small note indicating that those fields are required for the form. YES there are people who don't use the internet enough to intuitively know what an *asterisk means besides a form's field Color code the category names in the content boxes/bubbles (The last piece of text at the bottom of those boxes/bubbles) At the bottom of the content boxes/bubbles: 16 comments admin — Sun, 05/17/2009 - 19:28 Uncategorized Images that make the rounded corners fail at the illusion sometimes: Check out the top corners of the first content box/bubble, the one that holds the question. Example: http://www.askandwonder.com/content/would-you-rather-live-world-myth-and-dragons-etc-or-current-world Beware, where the background stops being a solid color, as this is where your rounded corners will not look good. For open-questions / unaswered-questions, make a large visually dominant "reply/answer/comment" button on the question's page. All you have now is a bit of text: "Add a new comment". It gets lost in the rest of text inside the content box/bubble. Example: http://www.askandwonder.com/content/what-came-first-chicken-or-egg-0 Consider adding a color gradient going from left to right of the content area (which is everything below the banner & navigation). You have a small, subtle gradient already at the top of the content area. Try and see how that same gradient turned vertical and starting from the left side of the page will look. Keep your existing gradient at the same time. OR, see at the bottom of the page you have a layer of stripes (dark beige // gray // black-gray pattern). Take those layers and put them on the left side of the content area, like a border. See how that looks. Maybe try a vertical border of the following layers, from left to right (black-gray pattern // gray // dark beige // gradient). Fit this vertical border between the left-edge of the page and the start of the search/login/ads column. It'll frame the content area better, and draw attention to your advertisements too, I think.
  5. When I coded for Extreme Games zone, I had the exact same mentality. Those unknown / casual / new players kept me motivated to come back to work after I'd hit a wall. Unfortunately when my work started depending on other staff's work, the laid back nature of that staff sapped any motivation I had. I felt like I was walking through mud for miles when I needed other staff to do fairly simple things to help me out. The answer to "Is it worth it anymore?" becomes NO when you depend on other zone volunteers to be responsible. This game offer much to those who are able to run zones, websites, forums by themselves. But when coordination & mutual responsibility is needed between people who run the game/zones/community portals, we barely get shit done. If I could mod this up, I would. -L what does "mod up" mean?

  7. The converter has an option to output a text file or binary one. attached is a text .x file warbird.txt
  8. Try the attached warbird.x file Rename it to warbird.x (this forum doesn't allow attachd-files with .x extension). I used a conversion program from http://francis.dupont.free.fr/coindev/engl...t3d/convert.htm. I don't know anything about the .x format, and very little about .3ds, so you should try some experimenting yourself. warbird.txt
  9. Those are actually models I made and posted here. MillenniumMan never posted the 3D meshes of his models - only pictures. Are his models available for download somewhere? I've been monitoring this thread for a while, and only 2 people have shared 3D meshes of ships: mine (warbird, jav, terrier, weasel, lanc): http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=194934 Smong's warbird: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=180162 If you want to model the ships from scratch, Creamy posted a link to the perspective pictures you'll need to create accurate meshes: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?s=&sh...st&p=161493
  10. I feel so good that someone is doing something constructive with those models thanks for sharing them with us.
  11. It didn't give me a score - I have perfect color vision. I did this on a 6-bit TN panel LCD http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/678/79296555sm0.th.pnghttp://img339.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif I don't see how you can mess this up unless you're partially color blind. Every once in a while, (un)focus to the big picture and catch any squares that look out of place.
  12. I downloaded DCME on this Windows XP computer for the first time. It runs fine. There were some errors when updating to 3.2.1. 14. to refine this quoted text, Evolutionary Psychology 204: Genes may be passed on to later generations by indirect reproduction. In some human social structures, the social benefits* of same-sex partnerships may have produced more reproducing-offspring than investing time & resources for acquiring mates capable of producing healthy offspring that survive to reproduce. But why not have friendship-relationships - why is there "sex" involved in these same-sex partnerships? Homosexuality, in the environment where it evolved, may be exploiting the unique aspect that humans like to have sex just for fun and other evolved behaviors !@#$%^&*ociated with sexual pleasure, like emotional attachment. This provides a possible answer to "why does homosexuality even exist?". * examples of social benefits: an extra male to protect family members; an extra female to help gather food; an extra person who is investing in your relatives' well-being It also explains why homosexuality has it's roots in advanced social structures (like humans) and hence is not found in all animals. As a side note, mutations (like six-fingered hands) do affect reproduction because mutations may signal a better mate choice, a better chance of your offspring surviving to reproduce. The mutation does not need to directly be involved with reproducing, and it may even not be related to survival of the organism that has the mutation. If it increases the amount of offspring that reproduce, indirectly or directly, it will be favored by natural selection. Homosexuality is only in 1-2% of human populations, correct? That suggests that, in the environments of human ancestors, the genes that contribute to heterosexual mate preference result in more surviving & reproducing offspring than homosexual mate preference. And that is also inline with our intuition. Because homosexuality is such a rarity does not mean that is wrong or bad. The rarity tells us that social environments of our ancestors did not favor homosexual mate preference as much as it did heterosexual mate preference. To determine morality of homosexuality look to religion, philosophy, and your own experience - not biology or evolutionary theory.
  15. I second this diagnosis, if your source images were JPG. I see that the file in your lvz is .bmp but have you altered a image that was originally a .JPG and resaved it as .BMP? I suspect exactly what Samapico said - the "black" around the ships might have been turned into a very dark color that is not computer-precise black, RGB (0,0,0), which is what Continuum turns into transparency. Figure out if your image's black pixels are in fact RGB(0,0,0). If so then Try obtaining your source images as a one of these image types: .PNG, .BMP, .GIF, or Open the BMP and manually place RGB(0,0,0) pixels where black is supposed to be. Working with JPG risks altering all colors in the image in the name of saving disk space. JPG is nice because it alters the colors in a way that's practically imperceptible to people, but the color as the computer sees it can be different from the original image source.
  16. Terrier is updated. Here it is as a .3DS file terrier13.zip Video of it: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=15...03103&hl=en ps. please allow the extension .3ds to be uploaded so 1 file doesn't need to be inside a .zip December 20, 2007: All original 3Ds Max files of these models (including an updated Weasel that I was about to post here) have been lost because of corruption to the harddrive's MBR. I'm sorry. I don't foresee myself making these from scratch again anytime soon.
  17. Thank you. We're using it now for a !TreasureHunt mini-game and a !buy menu.
  18. It's purpose is to visually indicate to the player that they have obtained something special.
  19. We could use a subtle animation that would appear around or on top of you ship after you pick up a green. Sparkles, glitter, fireworks-type animation Glinting shine of an "energy shield" moving around your ship animation A simple icon that shows itself for a few second next to your ship Those are some ideas. It can be an animation or a static image. Subtleness is key. More Info: This will be a screen-image LVZ. It will appear in the center of the screen (on or around your ship) to indicate that you have received some power-up item from the !buy menu. Ships are 32 pixels wide, 32 pixels high -> good information for scaling the size of your animation/image. Here's the placement of an animation that I envisioned. I would like a much more subtle and more attractive effect than this. Maybe some circular "tail chasing" type animation. It would be cool if you made one that had an illusion that it went underneath the ship. The animation should be less than 1 second, and very subtle. This is for Extreme Games zone.
  20. Whoever made that poster colored & modified the 3D model of the lanc I made. Awesome! I'm really happy someone used it.
  21. Here's the .3ds files for those models continuum_.3dsModels.zip Warbird and Lancaster are the most complete
  22. www.greencams.net is owned by cycad and hosts the opencore downloads too.
  23. whoops, thought this was about LVZ files. -------------------------------------------------------- I posted code that reads an .lvz file. It's attached to the forum post: http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=7087 It's actually a program that runs from the command line. It's command line paramter is the path to the .lvz file. then extracts all the files into the program's folder, and outputs the names of the files. It's an "importer". It's in C/C++ and uses bit-shifting to read the LVZ format within the file's data. There is an easier way, I've been told, by using "bitfields" rather than bitshifting, to read binary data. The code is heavily commented/messy.
  24. importing multiple images/files at once does not work for me (v 3.1.3) It allows me to select multiple files inside the dialog box. But after pressing Open, the LVZ Manager doesn't import any of them (the list of files remains empty)
