Hey. I've got windows 8 and this doesn't seem to be working for me. Continuum just seems to open as normal even though I'm loading it through the program. Any thoughts?
-
The standalone client doesn't seem to work for me either. It's giving me a timeout error. Strange, because I was able to use the web based one just fine.

Dude, Rage was agreeing with the rest of us who were saying that Dagger did indeed have his full ship after he respawned. Dagger was trying to say that when he died, he didn't get any toys back, but this was clearly not the case as he had actually used a late repel before he died, and then used two more repels and 3 rockets after he respawned before he was subbed out. That quote only shows Rage saying what we were all saying, that Dagger did have two full ships even though he was saying he did not. Edit: Here: Dagger> lol Dagger> wtf Dagger> I didn't die Seriel Kill> :/ Dagger> what theh el lwas that 9-Volt> !items Ra> !stats Seismic> sub dagger Seismic> im going to kill him right now Adept> fair warning Dagger> I didn't get any items Ra> trying to get his ship reset Dagger> after dying Rage> wtf? Adept> wtf Ra> because of that Rage> you repeled me twice Plarep> LOL Adept> u used 3 rockets Adept> and 2 repels Seismic> he repelled rage twice? Rage> LOL Adept> what more do you want Dagger> not Ra> he died Rage> yes Dagger> I didn't die on my screen Ra> and lost his reps Adept> he repelled late and died Rage> LOL Adept> and then he spawned with a new ship Ra> he didn't die on his client 9-Volt> !stats Ra> so his ship didn't get reset Adept> and then repeled twice and rocketed 3 times Rage> what does that even mean NINE> it's happened to me before Rage> how does he spawn somewhere else 9-Volt> sounds like a cheat Rage> and come back with items Plarep> you can't not die on your own client Seismic> what exactly would u like us to do Rage> and not get items NINE> sure you can plare FYI, while I have seen this happen before (and so has nine), it's pretty obvious that plare, rage, 9-volt and Seismic had not. However, when this happens, the client/server still treat the ship like a new ship. He was still issued new toys, which everyone but Ra and Dagger had pointed out. And I don't blame Ra, because he probably wasn't speccing Dagger. I was, though, because he was the target. Saw him use a late repel when he died, then spawn right away in the same spot with 2 repels and 3 rockets, and he used all 5 of those toys too.

Thanks bud. I've been getting used to having this open in the background while at work.

sshyperspace.net seems to be some kind of spanish website now? Is the chatnut client still up anywhere?

The dig at rage was totally unnecessary, and it almost feels like you're now looking for reasons to take digs at him in these "official" write-ups. Come on dude. Regardless, the log doesn't show that at all, in fact, it shows Dagger clearly lying about toys. Which is very out of character for Dagger (at least from the interactions I've had with him) but maybe he was just thrown off because he respawned in the exact same spot he died in, even if the death didn't register on his screen somehow.

Caer, I disagree with that. People ruining pracs only becomes a problem when it's actually happening consistently. You came across two incidents in the past two weeks, where the players in question only did something wrong once (and in Rage's case, this happened two weeks ago and he had not done anything else wrong since then) and chose to act on these in order to make an example of Rage and Legacy. Saying that this is what leads people to not play is incorrect. In fact, when the rest of our team found out that Rage was banned for our Sunday game, the captains were pretty indifferent about even playing league anymore. I can share an anecdote from my experience running HZ for 5+ years: when the old sysop stepped down and appointed me the new sysop, one of the first things I did was abolish banning. If you've played HZ at all (which I know that you have, Caer!) you know that prior to me taking over, the zone was pretty much known across subspace for having some of the strictest language rules and having nothing but "nazi mods." Some of the policies and development changes I implemented along with getting rid of bans was to automate the zone as much as possible to ensure that things that could get you banned or penalized in the past were no longer possible. In HZ, the biggest issue was the strict language policy, which I replaced with a modified version of a language filter our development team was able to code into ASSS. To date, there have probably been less than 10 bans since the policies changed, and all (or most) for hacking/cheating. I realize the anecdote doesn't seem to have a lot to do with the situation at hand, but where I relate it is the fact that in both of our situations we identified a problem and came up with a solution. I changed the system at it's core, so the problem wouldn't happen anymore, whereas you put a bandaid on it by banning two people and hoping that your iron fist would prevent people from doing it in the future. I disagree with that assessment. I think a better course of action would be to slightly modify the bot code that disallows somebody from re-entering a game from instead of associating players by name, to associating them by MID and IP. It would take a bit of coding, but in the long run it would fix the issue from ever happening again. Alternatively, imo there should at least be one mod on at all times. Rage's ban could have easily been averted if a mod was on to answer the ?cheater message, and had just speclocked him for the remainder of the game. Of course that would have probably killed the prac, since it looks like it was 2:00 AM and there didn't seem to be any players in spec willing to sub in when Rage's team lost a player, which is the only reason he subbed in to begin with. TLDR: the zone should avoid banning people as a bandaid solution, as it harms more than helps. There are different (and better) ways of handling situations that right now are bannable offenses.

Hey Three. I just got back into SC2 as well, with the release of HOTS. I'm still getting back in shape but I'd be down for doing some 2v2s with you. I'm a west coaster as well.

Caer, you kind of contradicted yourself in the same sentence by saying the predictions were calling for 12-1 which doesn't indicate a close game, but that people don't factor in stuff like testing line-ups or sharing play time. When you looked at our starting lineup I don't think anyone was thinking these are our best 4 players. At the same time, unhallowed came out very strong and played quite well, though if you look at the game stats we still outdamaged them and took significantly less damage. They had one person with damage efficiency over 50%. Either way you slice it, Seis is 100% bang on when he says him, rage and maimer played for only 20 minutes that match. I had 35 mins of playtime ffs .

Unhallowed not a bad team at all, lots of guys that can hold their own when they show up. They showed up vs us.

BlueGoku replied to Caerbannog's topic in 4v4 League
There's no Sterling in the standings, Caer. Should we take the place of bye round but be 1-2 instead of 0-2? -
Ace and Maverick fixed all the sites that were affected.

I'll say the same thing I said to the rest of the council when this was brought up: Subspace couldn't survive commercially 10 years ago when it was fresh and the graphics weren't outdated. Cosmic Rift couldn't survive commercially despite upgraded graphics and game engine. Continuum will not survive commercially. What attracts people to this game is the community. The community is bolstered by having other players as staff instead of mindless customer service reps. Unfortunately for SS it's a lose-lose situation. Either we hand everything every zone owner has over to rapidshare and trust that a megacorporation has our community's best interests (it doesn't, corporations care only for making money. if they didn't think they could make a profit they would not be doing this) or say thanks but no thanks and hope they just lose interest. Because if their clone actually does get coded and they settle all legal issues, SS is done anyway. "Go along with them, what's the worst that could happen?" The worst that could happen is SS YET AGAIN does not function as a commercial game and it gets dropped by rapidshare. Say what you will about priitk but the guy is hosting 70% of the zones, 90% of the most played ones. He asks for nothing in return. If we all leave for this new subspace clone and it gets dropped, we won't have anywhere to come back to. You would be severing all ties with priit without having a backup, as even with priit's resources I'm sure he won't pay for servers if they aren't being used. Say it doesn't get dropped by rapidshare. Would you pay 5 bucks to play a nightwasp in chaos? Are you willing to put up with advertisements every time you enter a zone? There's only so many things rapidshare can do to make a profit off of SS, it's either gonna be a ton of advertisements, micro-transactions or a straight up monthly fee. Don't kid yourselves, this isn't the "answer" SS has been looking for, though it's pretty much bound to have the same effect. It's just that nobody's really put in much thought on what the consequences of abandoning priitk will be and how they weigh in with the many advantages he's offered.
