  1. The server's been up and down today due to a crash bug. But it's resolved now. Tomorrow I'm going to add about 20 new testers and the server should hopefully be up all day. So just sign up for alpha by the form and you'll most likely get an email with the d/l link tomorrow.
  2. I've developed a remake of sorts of the style of gameplay of Subspace. Officially there is no relation between the two games so you won't see warbirds or anything like that. However, SS is my favorite game ever so as an Indy developer I did follow the genre pretty closely. Some changes are: 1. Modern 3D graphics. It should be able to run on most people's systems, but you do need a pixel shader 2.0 video card, which means anything in the last 5 years. If you don't have that it might still run to some degree but some graphics features will not be there. 2. Direct support for popular game modes: Dueling zone = Tournament. All matches are ranked according to chess ranking rules, so there doesn't need to be a dueling league, as it is built in automatically. Survivor: Kill within 90 seconds or die yourself. Sort of like Chaos, with more urgency and short games. Dogfight: Just regular deathmatch League: Built in league support, 4 on 4 matches, vs. squads or not, and ranked. Automatically handles things such as players dropping and reentering mid-match, scoring, lives. 3. New major game mode: Armada. Basically bases are now carriers, which you can fly inside. You blow up the reactor, and possibly squad spawns inside. It's a bit like warzone but with more strategy. The ultimate goal is to fly carriers to the enemy starbase and blow it up, at which point the zone resets. 4. Levels and experience. All the old classic weapons are in, but there's a bunch of new ones, and items as well. These, as well as the carriers, are unlocked as you gain levels and score. 5. Armada is planned to support 500 players, so there will be much more action. All of the old features are in: Squad support, banners, chat commands, etc. The game is free, but if you want the unlocks you can pay to subscribe, or can pay a flat lifetime subscription fee, so I can continue developing. Even in the free mode there is much more stuff than in regular SS. Right now the game is in closed alpha, but open beta will start pretty soon.   3. Top down physics based shooter, on a 2D plane, but with 3D graphics. Over 10 weapons, items, 30 levels, 5 game modes. You can see this all from the webpage by the way. But I know it will appeal to most of the people here.
  4. Hi guys, Hopefully this isn't seen as a conflict of interest. If so, I apologize and please just remove the post. 9 months ago I quit my 100K a year job as a game programmer to start my own company. My goal was to give a facelift to my favorite game of all time, that caused me to almost fail college several times I'm calling it Galactic Melee and from the screenshot you should immediately know which game that is. Galactic Melee is starting closed Alpha today. I need about 500 testers, at which point signups will end and closed alpha testing will go on until all the bugs are fixed. Then we'll start open beta.   5. I'm developing an online game in the same genre as Subspace. I'd like to purchase a subspace map level design for either a previously made or a newly made level design. I need two designs: One from Chaos Zone, and one from League Zone. Of course to sell the map, this means you have to have rights to it. Either you made the map yourself previously and have proof of this, or you make a new one for me. I don't need the texturing or geometry, only a large resolution design from which a 3D level can be created. I am paying $100 per map. This offer expires May 9th, 2007.   7. Spoke too soon: I honestly did look but I can't find the original zone settings file. I downloaded the server "server.zip" but don't see them there. Where can I download the original zone settings, used to ship the game?
  8. I need the original (VIE) timings, in seconds, for control of the warbird and potentially the other ships as well. Velocity: Currently I have 1200 pixels at top speed takes 3.7 seconds. Angular velocity: Time to do a 360 rotation Acceleration: Time to go from full reverse velocity to full forward velocity My watch is broken or I'd just use a stopwatch. But if someone has the source I can get even more accurate values. Thanks!
