  1. I'm still trying to get lynx to load up a testable asss server, he just hasn't been on much and I just started a new job. I'm still working on getting it up and not broken.
  2. Probably the biggest thing that annoys me about continuum, being that it's essentially a glorified chat program now, is the lack of a friends list feature. Something in game where I could just type ?friends or something to that effect and have a list of my friends that I've added myself pop up and show whether they or online or not. Having to ?find people who refuse to use chats all the time is irritating and it would be sweet to have a command I could just pop into my auto list for zone entering. If this doesn't exist already in some form if not many would be surprising to me. ASSS could pop this functionality in with a module tied to a database in its most complex form, or if you just wanted to get dirt simple a merv plugin could do this reading from a text file (.dat or something) that contains players friends lists. This would be the way to implement it just on a zone by zone basis, small scale and rudimentary. The best way to do this would be a new biller, but since that will never happen I won't even both discussing it. The next best large scale way to get this implemented would be just tossing the functionality into a new client so that it stored personal friends lists locally to a players continuum folder. The only client that I can see being finished right now is JabJab's Aphelion, so I hope you see this jab and add that capability. If this exists as an asss module or merv plug already please let me know, I'd love to toss this in DS just for personal use.
  3. Keep up the good work Jab. Looks like you're the only person in SS actually committed to a client update.
  4. I would ideally love a dev team to help me improve the zone and do the ASSS conversion work, but I will deal with the reality and take what I can get. If you have dev talent, I'd love for you to contribute. Graphics creation and SFX creation would be dandy, but unnecessary. The thing I need most if someone who can code ASSS modules. I need at least one merv plugin made into an AS3 module and potentially more depending on your motivation. I would love to think of new ways to innovate the DS gameplay and zone experience, and help with this would be appreciated. Let me know if you want to help out with the zone! It's a surefire way to snag a staff position (if you're driven by greed) and get in on the inside scoop if you dig the zone.
  5. My concern is that I used a different zone name and port and it did nothing.
  6. I changed the port of the zone to 13778 to try to resolve this directory server issue. Info on manually adding the zone updated on the original post. Can anyone lend any advice on this? It's been like 2 weeks and I've tried everything. I've changed the name of the zone, the port, and the password in the directory section of server.ini and nothing will take. Absolutely nobody (including myself) can see the zone on the zone list when downloaded, despite all the directory servers being listed in the .ini. The original problem seemed to stem from SSCL Desert Storm already existing on L Y N X's server by way of Cheese, so we thought it was a reclamation issue, but now I've change virtually every piece of info for the zone except the IP. WTF? Lynx also checked his firewall, bear in mind that several zones are hosted on this server with no such issues. LT

  8. UPDATE: Okay so the directory server issue is apparently not resolved. If you can't find the zone in the directory list just use the IP 69.164.209.244 and port 13000 to add the zone manually to your list while we try to sort out this nightmare.
  9. I have a whole army of sound effects I'd like to use that need to be edited and compressed. I can do it myself but I have a ton on my plate already so any help would be greatly appreciated. I do have a list of things that I want to replace with sound effects that I do not have that would be cool if you could fine them. Contact me in game. Cheese: Lynx says it's on the directory and players are finding the zone so it should be.
  10. I have afterburners on my to do list just like that. Doing it one ship at a time. 7 and 8 have it already. Cloak and xradar are interesting ideas, I'll think about it... would probably be a good idea.
  11. Spider, I love your ideas. Those are the kinds of things I will love to do with DS when we make the switch to ASSS. If you would like to assist me in the conversion process let me know, I would like to start as soon as possible. I still have plenty to do in terms of settings work and extra sfx/gfx and plugin configuration but all that will port to ASSS pretty easily (minus the bot plugins) when we do that. I need to find some ASSS coders to help out with the project as I don't know garbage about programming.
  12. I'll let L Y N X know but I doubt that he would have a misconfigured firewall. Maybe he overlooked it though. Thanks bud.
  13. UPDATE: We appear to be having a problem with the directory servers as the zone is not showing properly on the zone list when you download. Probably a WINE related issue. To get in (SSC is working fine) just click add zone and put SSCL Desert Storm as the zone name, 69.164.209.244 as the IP, and 13000 as the port.

DS is back online as SSCL Desert Storm. The zone will be in a beta state for a few months while some things are improved and an ASSS conversion is started. The zone is playable and functional but the ship settings are subject to change as they have not been tested in more than 1v1 situations. Graphics and SFX will be being improved and bot functionality will be improved as well during this beta period. Thanks to everyone that made this reopening possible so far: L Y N X, Polix, and Chambahs for helping me with some business end problems and the server hosting by L Y N X. I'd also like to thank all the players who came back and let me know they would support the zone, as well as Cre and Dav1 for supporting this project. Lt
