  1. Here's one you might want to add to the faq. I had been regularly getting a 'subscript out of range' error when I would try to 'save map and lvz' and it would ruin the .lvl file and not save the lvz file at all. Then I discovered the "save items" command, and I toggled off the saving of everything except the lvl and lvz files and now I no longer get the subscript out of range error.
  2. I just noticed today that subspacedownloads.com is down. How long has it been like this? Is this only temporary? It would be a shame if it's down permanently because it's a great resource. Feel free to remove this thread if/when it goes back up.
  3. http://di1.shopping.com/images1/pi/1b/ca/e3/41560238-260x260-0-0_Bose+Bose+AROUNDEAR+Around+the+Ear+Headphones.jpg I've been through a lot of headphones (mostly used for gaming) and these (Bose Around Ear Headphones) are by far the most comfortable I've ever owned. I could easily where them for 5 hours straight. They cost about $125 though. The only downside is they're a bit fragile. Mine broke after about 3 years. Now I'm using the Logitech G35 headset which is fairly comfortable but heavier. And the Dolby Surround is really nice on a lot of the newer games that support it.
  4. Yeah. That's why I don't think there's much advantage to the "lounge" idea unless all the zones are actually converted into arenas in one single zone. If you could convince half a dozen owners of small zones (10-30 ave. online pop.) to all combine into one zone, then they could probably attract more players simply by the fact that their population would appear as 100 instead of 20.
  5. I recently switched from a geforce 7900 GTO to a 8600 GT, and although it works great with the latest 3d games, as soon as I entered continuum it was as if I was tripping on acid: sample screenshot: http://mysite.verizon.net/stevenrh/geforce_8600GT.jpg If anyone has any idea why this happens and/or knows of a simple solution, I'd appreciate it. I didn't see any other posts with a problem like this, but I assume I'm not the first person to have a problem with a new video card with continuum. Maybe I need to reinstall the latest version of directx? :?:
  6. I'm told by eg staff that the ban came from desert storm - a zone i never play in. If it was a legitimate ban, I'd be curious to know who added it and what the player's ip or mid was.
  7. I tried logging in today and it appears I've been network banned (#2146) for no reason known to me. I've read the SSC netban guidelines and submitted a ticket, but seeing as how the person answering the ticket may be the same person who banned me, I thought it would be prudent to post something here to see if anyone at all knows why this happened. I'm guessing it was either a mistake or some childish vendetta. I can still get into any zone on my laptop, but it would be nice to be able to get in with the name Wormhole Surfer and on my good computer since I was working on a new zone project. This ban would have taken place within the last 24 hours. The most offensive thing I've done in that time was owning someone in EG under an alias - no cheating or forcing required of course. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. I'm not sure if I want to use a merchandise/credits system, but I am designing it so you start at ship 1 and have to slowly work your way up to better ships and I was thinking that it is going to be difficult to make the game playable for the new guys who come in and can only fly warbird while everyone else is flying around in huge powerful ships. I'll definately have to think of some ways to level the playing field so that people can still have new ships and upgrades to strive for without making it an unplayable field of death for new players.
  9. I doubt that. If there is a development problem, it's not for a lack of "tools." There are many possibilities with just a few simple mervbot plugins, for example, that even the most popular zones haven't tapped into. The most popular zones are hardly taking advantage of what they have available now with Continuum as opposed to Subspace, so what makes you think they'll take advantage of the possibilities of ASSS?
  10. I don't think it helps much that Trench Wars is by far the most populated zone in Continuum/Subspace and in my opinion TW doesn't really give a very good representation of the capabilities and potential of the game.
  11. I didn't spend much time in Hyperspace, but from what I saw and read it sounded like it had some very innovative and unique features. If anyone could let me know what you liked most about Hyperspace that you don't see in other zones, I'd appreciate it. I'm working on a new (non-infantry-style) zone and although I already have some unique ideas lined up.. a few more couldn't hurt. Thanks.
  12. I'll have to check out the latest version of !@#$%^&*. I'm still using the version you released almost a year ago and from what I've read you've added some good features recently. I will agree that it is annoying how SSME has the eraser tool set up.
  13. I think it would be useful to add a sysop command to force a player to enter a different arena. For example, /*go duel, when executed by a sysop or bot, would force a user into duel arena. This could be very useful in bot coding.
  14. I think his point was that it's kind of odd calling !@#$%^&* "oldschool" when it was released less than a year ago where as SSME was released over 5 years ago. I've always liked SSME and have used it for dozens of maps, but if you want to make a more graphic map (using LVZ), you're going to want to use !@#$%^&*. Using a text editor for laying down lvz graphics on a map is a joke. SSME is still better for tileset-only maps, though.
