hey guys i got a reply of Norman support service today, theyre gonna download the game and test is on several machines. Also theyre gonna think of a workaround AND/OR patch for Norman av (IF THEY CAN, this is no guarantee!!!) Personally i do not expect to much of it but still it would be awesome that it might be fixed. One thing though. Norman said, like i mentioned before; since its only continuum having this 'error' it might not be solvable by updating the av or spyware protector, and it might be the game itself whos causing !@#$%^&*! Anyway, theyre gonna look at it real quick and think of an solution *updates coming soon*

amiga? pleeeeaaaaseeee!

i know, but i have it too, but not installed on the workstations. The only computers in my house with firewalls are my servers and the router has a firewall buildin. Norman data defense is the av Norman personal firewall is... well you know
-
its no firewall really....! But yea more and more av use the sandbox technology mayb thats the cause? But to be honest i rather think of a memory conflict or something, since if something is a problem to a firewall it should alert the user with a message of some sort. right? so i think it goes deeper than just a av program being nasty. Anyway, im still awaiting the reply of norman PS. Thanks for changing the topic!@#$%^&*le

im using .38 offcoarse, .39 is way ffrom finished i heard... anyway. Its my Antivirus (Norman data defense).

to get back on topic... i just "finished" installing my windows, the drivers werent installed yet. I ONLY got !@#$%^&*inuum installed and it works <_< i dunno how, now i got all drivers installed and still it will start. im now installing windows updates, after each reboot ill try continuum to see what happends, after i will do the same with the software im about to go install. Keep you updated here.... PS. some mod plz change the topic !@#$%^&*le to 'SHRIKEE is weird' or something since it might distract forum viewers this way thanks!@ [edit] Its me AV... i just installed it and now it wont run anymore... but its weird in user account i works, just not as admin... *checks for safelist to work this time* last time it didnt made a diff [edit2] safelist wont work, ive emailed the support desk of my AV for a sollution. *waiting results*

SOS, true. but if its so much alike why did they make a new version then, instead of an update... theres big differences in usage and performance, not to mention hardware and software support. anyway, so far it seems to me the problem is in my computer rather than to blame continuum, reinstalls 1 workstation to check... *sigh* i hate computers although its my job to work with them! <_<

dunno whats wrong ... i might have !@#$%^&*ed up one, but not all three. (i know quite alot of windows os, been working with it for almost 10 years now. never had a problem like this) no theyre not custom. just a normal install ive got all software legal, i might reinstall one pc later this week orso to see if that works, but i dunno if it will help :S and for win2k being the base of winxp i disagree, since winxp is a completely different system. it might be based on the same kernel but thats about it... is anyone else using windows 2000?
-
so then this does not apply to windows xp? it might... But for windows 2000 it sure does. Admin cant play, regular user or power user can play with no problems... I tested that on all 3 workstations i have here... 3 completely different computers that is <_< (and no im not gonna upgrade to windows xp )

Hey there, if i want to put in some custom sounds how do i do that? i need to convert wav or mp3 to wa2 i guess? but with what program? thanks!

not sure, but im gonna test it soon...

ive discovered as soon as a user has admin rights, continuum wont load. I think this works for win xp aswell: ive seen multiple posts about winxp the one account would start continuum, and another wont. (one is admin and the other is not) As of yet i have NOT found a way to start it from admin accounts, the 'with other user' function wont work for me... some error code. Please people try this and help me work this one out to run it from admin accounts!

i think ive located the problem in windows 2000 pro sp4. im working on it right now... ive discovered as soon as a user has admin rights, continuum wont load. I think this works for win xp aswell: ive seen multiple posts about winxp the one account would start continuum, and another wont. (one is admin and the other is not) As of yet i have NOT found a way to start it from admin accounts, the 'with other user' function wont work for me... some error code.

allright, i just did what you guys suggested, as i couldnt deactivate my av i uninstalled it. also i killed adaware se then rebooted, installed continuum. and it didnt work then i killed !@#$%^&*inuum and installed my av and adaware again. hope you guys are happy now, as i said before its not gonna work. Anyway. i still think its the continuum thats causing the trouble and not any protection program. plus ive been thinking: noone seems to know what the cause is but everyone is blaming protection software.... i think thats weird. it might as wel be the filesystem or the cpu which is not compatible. it can be a windows update thingy or whatever. since continuum is kinda old. and the whole concept is old. i might as well be the newer windowss versions... how can you be so sure its protection software if you dont know what the problem is... *shrikee out*

i am willing to try if continuum loads without adaware and av... but i think its ridiculous to have to shut down security systems to play a game .... so its no use for me to try. plus i cant disable my av... if it could it would be a lousy program i think adaware isnt active at all. only when i do a manual scan once a month

sup yo.. if this 'new' client is gonna work on win2k i can mayb help? i know php/mysql aswell as html/css. not to relevant for a client based game, also im not to advanced init... but i can maybe help with stuff i havent though about testing, bringing up ideas, review code, graphix? whatever... just fit me in somewhere (but only if its gonna work on win2k, otherwise its no use for me to make such client *yes im a selfish !@#$%^&**) also im wondering, are you planning on a completely new game or a new client for subspace? mayb an idea to maintain a small website for the new client? i could help out with that . As with hosting, scripts and stuff like that.
-
yes, well... i didnt uninstall any spyware programs or antivirus since i simply think its ridiculous to change the setup of my computer just to play some game. i mean, would you buy a new pc if you specs dont meet a game? i think not. Anyway. IF my antivirus (norman virus protection) is the problem it had given me some alert which it didnt. Same for spyware (i use adaware SE), i heard of many adaware isnt the problem. I ran the client in another user with 'run as' then it comes up with this error: Also i tried it on another computers (with same spyware and av protection and windows). i tried version .39 .38 and subspace 1.34 and 1.35 (both showed me a ingame version 2.0) I also tried .38 with the .39 update. webinstaller also didnt work. and i tried the zipped setups instead of the installers. ALL DID NOT WORK. i checked my error logs incase there might be something init, but no nothing is listed. Also i cleaned my register everytime i installed a new version... My conclusion: continuum sucks. (or am i wrong) I used to play, about 2 years ago. on the same windows with almost the same software, only then i was using adaware 6.x and an older version of norman av... So then, no subspace. continuum wont work either. IS there another client available i might try? ive been looking for it but didnt find anything *search phrase; subspace client @ vinden.nl <-- search site*

i think it IS a bug in continuum, since its the only program i know of to have this error...

Since continuum doesnt work on my computers im wondering how to use subspace it requires me to use a username and password... i know continuum is using profiles but how does it work on subspace? i can start it and all but not connect to zones as it requires me to update (ssupdate.exe) which doesnt work and i have to have a username and password... any hints? Or else the solution to make continuum work its not running at all and flopping around the process list in windows task manager. Im on windows 2000 pro service pack 4 Thanks in advance!
