LOL sos don't get that discouraged I feel that maybe I havne not a soloution for the exact problem, but I do probably have a soloution to help ppl identify there problem.... In lamens terms...Troubleshooting ss client for dummies well just for this issue that is. You can see here on my recent post http://www.ssforum.net/c/index.php?showtopic=7484

Okay, hi this is going to be a little long but it should serve your purpose just fine. As Mav has pointed out in the past numerous time...STOP USING RUN AS, that is not the soloution but a bandade to the problem...and I can tell you one of your main problems You said that you were running spyware Doctor and that you said you didn't think that it was it....guess what it is. I have the same program and when I began to disect that problem I found that my windows firewall (Norton System Works) once put the proper allowances (which is not just the exe by the way...if you are going to add the continuum to any program for exceptions you have to add the continum.exe, and the continuum.dll to the exceptions list). Like I said earlier thou the exceptions list for Spyware Doctor don't work properly so what I did was made shure that it didn't run on start up and I only opened it when I wanted to sweep my comp and closed it when I didn't need it. So your steps to make ss work are as follow (not a gaurentee but 90% shure that this will work 1)STOP USING "THE RUN AS MODE" for the client 2)Make shure Spyware Doctor is not booting with computer 3)Make shure your adding the continum.exe and .dll to all exception lists 4)Make shure (you said that you were on broadband) that your router is not blocking any ports that it needs to communicate. 5)If all else fails make shure windows Firewall is off any Anti-Virus is off, any Spyware is off and that it doesn't boot with computer (basicly so no programs are booting on start-up that are watching your applications/processes, and the restart your computer and the first thing you should do when up and running is start the client. *If this does work with just steps 1-4 then you know it was Spyware Doc and problem solved (just like in my case). *If Problem was solved with just step 5 then I would suggest closing the ss client after sucsessful start and opening one program at a time [E.X. Windows Firewall (with exceptions already allowed remember!), or Spyware/Anti-virus. Remeber one at a time and if it still runs, close that program just opened and move along]. Reason for this is to more identify which program is making this happen. BECAUSE GAURENTEED IT'S A PROGRAM THAT ISN'T LETTING YOUR .DLL INITIATE. So test this out and best of luck! Okay I really didin't want to try and make an old topic new again, but I have the same issue with drop down menus... I can't seem to stop getting the client to freeze when viewing menus. First, Yes I did try disabling visual themes and yes I have resorted back to regular windows style not windows style xp. If it was a program that this old topic was talking about http://www.ssforum.net/c/index.php?showtopic=7442 Then I am lost on what to do next??? I am running the client normally and I can get around this by just not messing with menus but I would like to turn 3d sound off and mess with in game visuals...any help would be greatlly appreciated thanks.

This was a starting refrence to solving my issue http://www.ssforum.net/c/index.php?showtopic=6740

just a thought, but I had the same exact problem when I made another account on my computer to try and solve the "not opening problem" Not enough privlages to download...I am shure that it's not that basic though "who knows sometimes we miss basic "

Scav I agree with mav that can't be why it's not starting...you need to check in your process window in the task manager and see what processes you have open and see if any of them could be the issue. I know it looks like a big task, but I just sat there for an hour and thought about it before I touched anything. It really is just some commen sence that is going to pull you through this. If you can remember when was the last time you played it without any problems and then what you installed afterwards that will help big. Also any program that is desighned to scan other programs (hence anti-virus or spyware or firewall) should be put into consideration...the problem really will only be resolved if you start from a foundation of nothing really started up when you reboot your computer then just start one program at a time and try to open ss...when it doesn't open you might of found your soloution...Leave that program disabled when you start up and open/close it when it needs to be used. It might not be just one program though so keep that in mind. Question: This is just me thinking out loud but if ss client can run in safe mode then I would try to start it in safe mode and do what I suggested and open 1 prog at a time and check for compatability...but I am not to shure about certain programs even being able to initiate in safe mode...just me thinking out loud for the benifit of others..."even if it is a dumb idea "

What I found out so far. Norton System Works (and probably any Norton internet or antiv-virus) was conflicting with my ss client. I began to try exceptions to see if it would allow it, and what I discovered is that not only do I have to allow continum039pr1.exe but also had to allow, menu039pr1.dll, menures.dll and it actually allowed my client to run. (Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that my error was stating that continum039pr1.exe-dll could not initiate so I figured if I allowed my .dll files it would accept the program and it did. Second of all for anyone out there who has Spyware Doctor (I would also recomend it, it has found many viruses and spyware out of all the other numerous spyware prog I have had.) there is a confliction as well with the client and even when I try to add all the exceptions that I can, it will not let me boot up ss. So all I did is disabled it to run at start-up and run it when I need to and close the program when I am done. Well that's what I have so far, and the asumption would be that for anyone out there that has anti-virus of firewalls if you don't know how to add correct exceptions then just disable them and play ss you'll atleast get to play ss for a few hours until hackers come in and steal everything.

I wil continue to search, and yes you were right...although the answer as specific as it could be...still very vauge to the point

Glad to say I got subspace to work...after sitting for an hour thinking about possible soloutions and reading possible causes I came up with this one. Deleted my spyware, made shure that my anti-virus doesn't boot up with system restart and turned my firewall of...(knowing now that making exceptions more than likley will not help resolve the issue at hand) doing this I then restarted my computer and opened ss like normal and walla...Insto Continum. For all those out there with this issue I have sympathy and I will try to diagnose my problem one step at a tiime to determine what program, process,or applications in the background might cause this catastrophe and report back of the actuall cause to my case. I am no expert, but I figure if a lot more people are having this issue and they try many different avenues to fix this problem, if we make a post and compile research of probable outcomes to this issue we can steer clear of this huge epidemic. If you have been affected by the non-ability to play then you can sympathize with me and I would greatly encourage people to post reasons why there ss client dindn't work (Please know what your doing before troubleshooting). I do stress many thanks to mav for his reply promptly and ask mav if you would consider maybe a thread for "Possible Program Confliciotns" Thanks Maximas

My initial soloution was to close all spyware and antivirus and firewall and run prog by selecting "run as" and it worked for me for a few months. you might want to try that..

The fact that your a girl strikes me as obvious to your last statement. This problem is not specific to the people running it but programs and there file extensions being open while trying to execute continum. There are many other software's out there that I think have a huge affect on the program and I have yet to isolate the problem on my computer. Just today I got my cable hooked up after I moved and re-installed the client. After doing so any time I try to open it my window begins to glitch and I have to manually reboot my computer. Now I am fed up with this !@#$%^&* program because it just seems that more and more people will be affected as time goes on but nobody wants to do anything about it.

I really need some help here, I have been a long time player since 98 and I love the game. I spent all day looking at the site for my problem and found one similar but it did not do anythig to help resolve my situation. When I try and load continuum my cursor goes into an hour gl!@#$%^&* and in the process tab in task manager I can see it trying to load but it just pops up then disapears. The only way that I can close this process down is to log the user off in windows xp. I have a nivida 5500 (256) so video isn't the issue and I was playing not to long ago. I just recently moved and now have astablished a cable connection so I am eager to play. I really need a live thread to help me out here can anyone help me troubleshoot that knows what is causing this not just giving me shoot in the dark theory's? Thanks Maximas
