Dammit. Thanks for all the great events you made - some of the most fun I've seen in 17th yet. I can't recall any other staffer who was so dedicated to making original and new events. I've no idea what these inter-staff issues are, but we're the worse for losing you. Had some fun during the old javwar league, too Good luck and take care, whatever you're up to now.

The problem with relying on ERs to be the sole hosts in the zone comes down to experience and numbers. An ER who hosts regularly will be promoted, and, under the proposed system, won't have to host anymore. Thus, a new ER would have to be hired, retrained, and thus, the cycle continues. What we eventually end up with is a constant inflow of ERs and a huge base of mods who do nothing but sit in spec and answer the occasional ?cheater. To add more experience to the entire hosting team and to ensure mods actually serve some purpose (excepting the few ?cheater and ?help messages we get, which, frankly, could be dealt with by no more than 2 or 3 mods), mods are made to host. Think of ER as a 'probation' period wherein one learns the skills to host, and moderator as actually applying those skills.

The problem is that nobody turns up for events! I can't count the number of times that an event has failed due to nobody (not even the person who ?hosted it in the first place) turning up. We still answer 'em, but more often than not (and especially during less populous hours) so few players arrive that it becomes impossible to host.

That explains quite a lot.

The indoors thing is true. I can't count the number of times I got blown to pieces in base due to my usual !@#$%^&*umption that weasels tend not to enter base.

What I believe Talion is saying is that Spiders in the old settings were over-specialised to the point where it becomes useless, or near useless out of base - whereas almost every other ship, whilst being specialised, is still flexible enough to handle itself both in and out of base.

I think Spiders should be given level 3 bullets and some sort of anti-anti-warp device.
