  1. Notice how you seem to be undermining your own argument here. If newbies seem to leave in 10 minutes, it's time to change the sets. Yes, you get comfortable with a ship. But when change is required, you adapt to them, or you wouldn't be much of a player. No offense intended, but this sounds ridiculously selfish. You'd rather let the zone decline so long as you can kill in a levi? If it's necessary to change the sets for whatever reason, then so be it. Just because you aren't used to a specific ship and can't 'dominate' in it doesn't mean it's 'crap'. For the past year or more, the so-called 'vets' on the forum and in the zone have been arguing to bring north / south bases back. 17th was a north / south setup from its earliest days, including the fabled oldmap period. In fact, 17th had its greatest population peak when the map was north / south, and I fail to see why it shouldn't 'work' now. Pretensious rubbish. Back up your statements. Because that's what you're used to. You seem to be taking by far too much of a subjectivist approach. What seems bad to you might not for the majority other players, as the north / south statement demonstrates.
  2. I hope not. I like the idea of the flag, but the implementation seems to need a bit of work.
  3. I think you misread my comment. I simply meant that this poll isn't an official evaluation of the flag game. I never said that in my original post, and I don't see how than can be inferred from it. It was about -this thread-. If you called that holier-than-thou bull!@#$%^&*, then stop peddling self-righteous bull!@#$%^&* in its place. And remember I'm not staff. Agreed. That'd remove the main (and only) objection to the flag game I've yet seen. Because although staff don't have a consensus on how to take the zone forward, the 'vets' have even less of a consensus. Which is why it gives the entire team points. I've played plenty of games with the new flag where we'd work to prevent the enemy from taking it. Turf flags have been tried on so many variant maps and settings without any notable signs of success. We had them in bases before this. Did it make much of a difference? Who actually played for the flags? Why not just give everyone a periodic point bonus? As I've said, I doubt if many would notice the difference. Then get rid of KotH too.
  4. Stop thinking about it as a flag game. Compare it to the old system- KotH. How does KotH fit into the ball game better than the flag? Surely that'd be like taking a duelling / killing zone and putting a ball and goal in the middle too? If you condemn the moveable flag game, at least consider if the same applies to KotH. A few points to note: first, Maurauder created the thread. It isn't necessarily endorsed by staff as a whole. They certainly aren't obliged to take it into consideration. Think of this as a settings discussion thread, not a yes/no poll created by development for the sole purpose of evaluating the flag game.
  5. It matters little what 17th was in the past- it's now a soccer-based zone and has been for as long as I can remember. You can't simply argue that 17th is a turf flag zone because some outdated description describes it as such when most, if not all of the players think otherwise (an !@#$%^&*umption here, but one that I think is relatively safe to make). The moveable flag is interesting. I'd prefer it to KotH: I can't recall many players who actively sought to win KotH. Most seemed to regard it as a convenient bonus. The flag seems to make people more involved in the game, which is a definite plus. And I've heard that the bounty / shipreset problem's been fixed. The other problem seems to be that it still detracts from the ball game somewhat, but we'll probably always have that. I don't see the advantage of reverting to turf flags at the goalrooms of both bases. People don't seem to care about them all that much- some take time to capture them when they score, but few seem to care too much about lighting up a few baubles that they stumble across whenever they score. I think we ought to give it a chance. As far as I'm concerned, you could just give everyone a periodic point bonus and I won't be able to tell the difference. It's currently at 8 v 10. Given that the forum is hardly representative of the population, that only 18 people have expressed an opinion, and that there're only 2 votes difference between the options, I'd say the poll were more ambiguous than anything. The same thing would occur with KotH, and as I've already said above, turf flags just seem to be a simple way of injecting more points into the game without any significant involvement by the players. Update: There seems to be another problem with the flag, seeing as it gives the flagholder 9000+ bounty. All the above only applies if this is fixed.
  6. Heya MMav. Sorry to hear you're leaving- you were one of the most dedicated and mature staffers I've seen in in 17th for quite some time. And as much as I grumble about bots (well, the ones you programmed to persecute me anyway ), I think we all appreciated their presence in the zone. Roach- I've personally -never- experienced anything like that when talking to MMav, before or after SMod. It's important to uphold the rules in staff, even if it may seem a little pedantic sometimes. Good luck with whatever you're moving on to. Don't forget to drop in once in a while
